Ariana felt like a scrap of paper blown about in a maelstrom. Everything was so overwhelming here without a real sense of what to do. She wasn't used to down time like this, wasn't used to classes and homework and so many people. It had been a lifetime ago for her that her life had at all resembled this and she wasn't sure what to do with herself. But one thing kept her going: finding Simon. Without him she didn't know what to do or who to be. Was she anyone other than his wife anymore? She wasn't even sure. But she also didn't care. She wasn't what was important. She had learned that lesson well enough. She had to find Simon.
[break][break]
He had to be here, she knew. That was the thing she was holding onto; the buoy keeping her afloat in this confusing and chaotic world she now found herself in. It didn't occur to her that Elaine might be here too. It never occurred to her to wonder if this was the school for children with "special gifts" that her big sister had gone to. He old life wasn't even a blip on her mental radar.
[break][break]
She had decided to go for a walk, needing to clear her head and regain some focus. Simon had enjoyed the forest so that's where her subconscious brought her wandering feet. It was a beautiful forest the campus had; lush and green but not so overgrown that there weren't meandering pathways through the underbrush. Ariana closed her eyes and breathed in the scent of the woods around her, the leaves just barely beginning to change in the upper. When she opened her eyes she saw something move out of the corner of her eye. She turned and her breath caught in her throat. The figure not very far from her in the forest was none other than Simon. "Si-" Her voice cracked and she tried again, stumbling clumsily through the underbrush towards him. "Simon!"
