And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ Once the school day had been successfully completed, Mavis had returned to her dorm to change out of her uniform before heading off towards the woods with an action book her mother had sent. It was not often that the teen read books, but her mother had insisted that even somebody who was not an avid reader would enjoy the book. Nobody had been killed by reading, or at least from what Mavis knew. If people were occasional killed by books, chances were she would read more merely for the thrills it may provide. As she drew closer to the woods she flitted through the crisp white pages, her eyes focused on the page numbers that increased with each quick turn. The book seemed rather thick by her standards and had about 400 pages all written in small print font. She sighed gently before sliding the book into the bag she brought; a precaution in case reading received a label of being boring. There was no need to harm the innocent book for creating boredom after all.
The day was warm and sunny, thus Mavis had pulled on a plain white t-shirt and a pair of jean caprice. Her short black hair flowed free, the locks getting ruffled by the slight breeze that kept the day cool. It seemed like a perfect day for a pleasant hike through the woods and some relaxing reading. Even a thrill seeker needed to rest sometimes after all. When Mavis approached the forest edge, her dark chocolate coloured eyes searched the trees for signs of movement, but everything seemed still with the exception of the branches that swayed in the soft breeze. The chirping of birds singing songs played inside the woods, making for a more lively effect. A small grin drew the corner's Mavis' lips up, perhaps this could be enjoyable. She continued down the path, her running shoes making slight imprints in the ground while she continued on her way.
While Mavis walked, her eyes gazed around the woods in wonder. It was not often that she wandered out here to explore the majesty of nature due to her lack of intrigue, but she would admit that the woods were beautiful. The way beams of light shined through the breaks in the branches to shine over the path in splotches of warm sunlight. Tall grass littered the sides of the path alongside a few hidden weeds and perhaps even poison ivy; thankfully her skin had never been effected by the irritating plant, however, she wore tall white socks to keep herself safe. Going to school and enduring long classes with a poison ivy rash did not sound pleasant after all. The path soon reached an upwards inclined which caused Mavis to stop a moment and gaze up the medium sized hill. Her hands went to her hips and she pursed her lips and made a high pitch whistle. That was a decent sized hill, but Mavis knew that she needed the exercise.
With that, her hands dropped from her hips and despite the slight annoyance she smiled as she made her ascent. She walked slow, her eyes still gazing around at the forest around her. This was definitely an excellent idea to spend the remainder of her day doing. Once she finished her ascent her eyes caught something a little ways off the path; a fallen log beneath a patch of shade. Mavis veered off the path, walking through the grass and weeds towards the fallen log and forgot any precautions about poison ivy. When she reached a log, she went to step onto it, but instead heard a loud crack as her foot fell through. Birds scattered from the scene immediately, clearly displeased and concern about the sound being a threat to them.
"SERIOUSLY?! Stupid rotten log!" Mavis grumbled loudly to herself while she lifted her leg out of the newly made hole.
When her leg was freed from the wooden prison, Mavis examined it to find adorned with freshly made scratches. The dark haired girl huffed at the sight. Her trip out here was going excellent and a log of all things seemed keen on being the downfall for her happiness! In anger, Mavis kicked the log which caused the rotten bark to break further. Her eyes wandered, finding a tree with little foliage beneath it. The teen quickly made her way over to the tree, sitting beneath it and glancing over her leg further. A tiny bit of blood seemed to be ebbing from the thin cuts, but it was nothing Mavis could not deal with herself. A groan of annoyance escaped her lips as she unzipped her bag and retrieved the action book her mother had sent. She opened the front cover, skipping the starter pages that did not involve story content, and began to read the book in attempt to forget what had occurred a few moments prior.

Salem La Schade Perhaps it would have been better if he had never gone out that day. Perhaps he should have just stayed in his room like his brothers had asked him to. Perhaps then he wouldn't be out here in the forest, lost and alone. But he couldn't help it. The pretty blue butterfly had come and whispered in his ear, demanding that he follow it. Surely it hadn't meant him any harm. But he hadn't expected the world to be so bent and twisted. It was so dark and gloomy, and he could hear the trees whispering such nasty, awful things about him. Trees couldn't be trusted really.
"Oh.. Why did I come out here...?" Where had the butterfly gone? Surely it would lead him outward to safety again, wouldn't it? He could almost hear the disappointment in the voices of his brothers that he had done something like this. Perhaps they would fear that he was off his meds again. But he wasn't! At least, he thought he wasn't... "Butterfly!? Where did you-" and then he heard it. A noise of some sort of frustration. Had it been a real noise? Or was it just one of his imaginations trying to lure him away from the butterfly, from the way out of here? Still, he couldn't just leave it. What if it had been a real noise? What if someone else here was lost, and hurt?
The male turned on his heels, glancing over his shoulder a bit, trying to get a final glance of the butterfly, but there was no luck. So he bit his lip ever so slightly before turning and walking off towards the noise. The forest was such a scary place, and he couldn't just leave someone to be lost like he was. Besides, if it was a real person, perhaps they could lead him away from here. Or at least back to some sort of path. Perhaps there was some sort of hope...
It didn't take too long for him to spot the girl sitting against a tree, book in hand. He stopped just inside the trees, leaning against one of them and looking at her. Gods. Why was she glowing like that? Were those fireflies? No. That was ridiculous. But she seemed to resonate a sort of peace. A beacon of hope in this dark, wretched place.
"E-excuse me.. Maiden.." Alright, so maybe his head was often filled with fantasy, and it really did show on the way he spoke. He took a few steps towards her, moving a bit of his long, violet hair out of his face, despite the fact that it seemed to want to be there. "Are you... Er.. Were you in.. some sort of.. Distress..?" Certainly it had to have been her that made the noise.. But she looked so peaceful here. "A-apologies.." He bowed a bit, resting a hand over his heart, and his other arm across his back as he did so. "I had heard a noise from this direction..." Of course perhaps it was intimidating to have such a tall man just standing near her as he was. Of course, he had given her plenty of space, but still, he found himself kneeling before her. For some reason it felt odd for him to be standing when she was sitting. "A-ah.. But if you are not, I suppose I can... Be on my way." The path was nearby, wasn't it?

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ The stinging of Mavis's scratched leg was obnoxious, but fortunately the literature piece that accompanied her provided an ample distraction for what had just occurred. It was obvious to the teenage girl that her mother knew a book that would interest her hot-headed daughter. She sat silently, her eyes reading every word of an impressive chapter one that dug hooks of interest into her mind. Her knees went to her chest while her hands held the blue covered book close to her face; Mavis was absolutely engrossed in the story. The approaching steps went unnoticed, the stranger with violet hair seeming to be non-existent until he spoke. Her eyes tore away from the interesting story, locking onto the approaching figure who just referred to her as maiden.
The black haired girl cocked her head to the side, did this guy seriously just call her a maiden? If anything, Mavis was the opposite of a maiden, but she decided not to rain on the fellow's parade. There were millions of ruder names the guy could have called her after all. As Mavis listened to the man speak, her face began to draw into mild annoyance. The stranger had interrupted her from the book because of the incident with the log. Watching was all Mavis did while the mystery man continued speaking; there was no point in trying to talk until he was done. Besides, it was hard to complain if the man was coming to make certain she was alright. Once he stopped talking and indicated the possibility of leaving, Mavis gave a sigh of annoyance. The guy was kneeling in front of her, that was both strange and uncomfortable looking to the black haired girl. It had seemed for a moment that the violet haired man was merely passing by and in Mavis's mind that did not warrant a need to crouch.
"You done talking? Also, why the hell are you crouching? Just sit down if you wanna. I know I wouldn't be comfortable. Heck you can just leave if you want." Mavis responded rather bitterly. "Also, that was me," she gestured to the broken log. "Had a little incident."
Her dark chocolate eyes watched him for a few more moments before giving a small shrug and looking back towards the book. One of her pale hands folded the corner of the page she was on, a sin that book lovers would scold her for, then slipped it into her bag. Now she had company and perhaps he would be more interesting then the book her mother had given her. There were plenty of opportunities to read, but not many to discover if this mystery man was worth her time. Slowly, Mavis shifted positions so her stomach was against the ground and propped her elbows to make a resting place for her slightly chubby face to sit. Her knees bent to bring her feet into the air, gently kicking them back in forth. Meanwhile she ignored any complaints that the various scratches on her legs gave. The female teen's dark chocolate eyes conveyed mild interest. One final analysis confirmed that he was likely a little bit older than her, but not old enough to be a teacher. Perhaps a student or maybe some random kid who decided to sneak onto school grounds for some strange reason.
"So, whatcha doing out here?" Mavis asked, looking at the mysterious man. "Also, do you go to Aurora Academy or are you some weird kid who decided this place would be some playground?"
Mavis patiently waited for the violet haired man to answer her inquiries. Besides, if he was going to stick around she needed to do something other than be a boring stick in the mud. Reading when there was somebody beside her would probably just make her seem like a total nerd and there was no way Mavis was letting that happen.

Salem La Schade Despite how course her words were, they seemed to go right over his head. He smiled a bit at the girl before him as she spoke. For whatever reason, his brain just wasn't translating the fact that maybe she didn't actually want him here. "Oh?" So, she had been hurt then? But it didn't seem to stop her from switching her position to lay down. So she must truly be as fine as she claimed to be. Still, he couldn't help but wonder what would have caused such an incident to happen, and whether or not she was just hiding her injuries for pride sake.
After she had gotten situated, she asked him a few questions, and a small, sheepish look crossed over his face. "A-ah.. Well.. You see..." He too shifted positions, choosing to finally sit on the ground, pulling his knee up to rest his arms and chin on, and curling the other leg beneath it a bit. "I am a bit lost." He wasn't exactly sure that he should tell her that he was following a glowing, talking butterfly on some sort of mission. "Yes. I do attend the school. Hopefully this is my last year here..." He couldn't help but want to leave this place. Over the past year or so, things had become much different for him. The whole school seemed darker somehow. He had started suffering from night terrors, and his usually controlled sickness got out of hand way more often than he would have liked to admit.
"And what about you? You.. Attend?" Well, that was probably pretty obvious, but it wasn't like he had ever seen her before. Then again, he barely recognized his own classmates, let alone the lower classmen. "Do you like it, so far?" Perhaps it had been a bad experience for her as well. Or maybe it wasn't. Hell, for all he knew, he wasn't even talking to a real person. Maybe she was just another conjured vision.

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ An eyebrow raised when Mavis's eyes caught the slight grin the stranger wore; had he not heard the bitterness in her voice or decided against accepting her aloof demeanor? Whichever it was the unexpected appearance of the smile still caught the dark haired girl off guard. Usually nobody smiled when somebody spat out venomous words which made the peculiar man interesting. The acute interest Mavis held for him faded and was replaced with genuine curiosity; this was definitely more fascinating than reading a book. There were no hints of cheerfulness on Mavis's face as she watched him with newly found intrigue. The thread thin scratches that covered right leg were forgotten as she watched the mysterious man. When he mentioned being lost, Mavis instinctively glanced to where she veered off the path.
"You aren't to far off the path anymore." Mavis informed him, pointing her thumb down the way she came. "It's a little ways that away if you're looking for it."
It would have been pointless to keep the paths location hidden, he was close enough to find unless he was oblivious. Mavis was also fairly certain that somebody would just come and find him anyways, so why not play hero for at least one moment? After battering and bruising people she felt is was only right to at least sneak one good deed in there to make herself feel like a better person. When he mentioned school and how this was hopefully his last year, female teen had to admit that she felt rather jealous since she would be stuck here for another year; keeping in mind that was if she succeeded in her classes. This mysterious man was fortunate, or at least in Mavis's opinion.
"Yep, and if I pass this year I'm still in for another one yet," Mavis began.
She thought for a moment after being asked about her opinion of the place. Truthfully, nothing horrible had happened while she attended the academy. There was certain the odd violent conflict started by her standoffish behavior and thrill seeking ways. The times when she was punished for her actions were bad, but were expected nonetheless.
Mavis shrugged at the question. "Guess it's alright. The only thing I can really say 'bout this place is that it is a lot bigger than the school I went to growing up." There was little that the black haired girl could say about the topic. "What about you Mr. Possible Graduate? Do you like it here or what?"
Inquiring about his experience seemed like an excellent idea in Mavis's mind. Her intrigue about why he had smiled in reaction to her harsh words could easily be hidden in his experiences here. Perhaps he had grown use to words of acrimony to lengths that he chose to ignore them; to confuse the slinging of those words with gentle smiles. Mavis's arms lowered to lay flat against the crisp grass, her chin resting upon them.

Salem La Schade So the girl did attend the school. That was good at least. Then she wasn't just some lost girl out here in the woods, like he was. Then again, perhaps she wasn't real at all. Perhaps she didn't actually attend the school, but was conjured up to make him think that she did. Either way, it was some sort of relief. Especially since she would be able to help lead him out of here and back to the school. He felt a bit safer and shifted a bit as he felt more comfortable. "I wish you the best of luck with that. It isn't a bad place really.. But. This is my second time through this year. I... Missed a lot."
He listened as she mentioned it not being a terrible place, and that it was bigger than her last school. "True. The campus is... Quite large here.." It was around then that he looked around a bit, his eyes sort of unfocused. But to be fair, there was smoke descending from the trees. Granted it was all in his head, but still. After a moment he looked towards the girl again. Did he like it here? "Uhhh..." He didn't really have a very good answer for that. "It has been... Alright I suppose." He shrugged a bit and smiled towards her again. "Definitely an adventure."

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ Curiosity glinted in Mavis's eyes as she watched her oddly amusing company who had mysteriously appeared moments prior. He shifted into a more comfortable position, which suggested to the dark haired girl that somehow she had managed to be welcoming towards him. There was no effort thrown to be inviting of company, but Mavis could hardly complain considering she could possibly find some thrill should this young man have any bullies. She would happily chase them off, Mavis was always raring to participate in a brawl. It was almost as though she was a hummingbird and battles were her sweet nectar that made certain she could live another day. She listened as he mentioned his reason and found herself disappointed. The stranger had merely wanted to escape because he had failed to pass last year; now that was just unfortunate for the craving thrill seeker.
"I see, that makes sense," she stated in neutral tone. She was really hoping to be given a reason to start launching fists at somebody. "Well, good luck with that."
Her words of kindness were solely due to the mysterious man's politeness and has a meager apology for her malicious thoughts and mean prays of bullying. The kicking of her feet slowed as she realized that this conversation would likely hold little excitement, but Mavis decided to stick with it. The stranger was not infuriatingly annoying or did anything to make her tick, thus there was no reason to spit words of venom at him. It was pleasant to Mavis to hear that he agreed that the campus was large, although she would use enormous to describe Aurora Academy. When she noticed him look around, Mavis raised an eyebrow well she wondered what he was looking at. A quick sweep of the area was done by her dark chocolate eyes, but alas she saw nothing threatening or interesting. Perhaps he was just paranoid or interested in something she cared little for. The way he stated his opinion about the school was interesting, almost as though he seemed uncertain; they both seemed to have doubt in their feelings about the facility. No hateful words nor words of absolute affection, merely an "it's alright". When he smiled at her, Mavis did not bother to flash one back.
She nodded when he mentioned it being an adventure. "That's for sure," she agreed simply. For a few moments she remained silent until her curiosity piqued again. "So, do you get lost a lot?"

Salem La Schade The violet haired male found himself picking at the grass a bit as she asked if he got lost often. At least until the grass started making sounds that it shouldn't have made, and he found himself apologizing for hurting it. Yes, out loud. It would probably be odd to the girl, watching him apologize to and gently pat the grass before turning his attention back to her. "Ah.. Yes. I do have a tendency to... Wander off..." For lack of a better word for it. "I get lost very easily. Even sticking to the path, I probably will not be able to find my way back to my dorm..." The older teen definitely looked almost disappointed by that fact. And he was. He hated being so much trouble for his siblings. But it wasn't like he could really help it all that much.
Again, the smoke returned, trailing along overhead. Again his gaze lingered on it. Something just wasn't right about it. He knew it was normal for him to see things that others couldn't, but there was something about this was disturbing him even more than usual. "Can you see that? Or.. Feel it?" Of course he doubted that she could. It was probably just his own mind being the horrid thing that it usually was.
By this point, his own panic about the strangeness of things had started to change the world around the two of them, what he could see and hear, the girl would gradually be able to see and hear as well. The dark smoke just swirled above the both of them, moving in and out of the trees, stopping every now and then before continuing on its way. But it wasn't like Salem was entirely aware that he was doing this either. He always had the worst timing when it came to losing control over his powers.

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ The stranger was rather odd to Mavis, especially when he began picking at grass only to begin apologizing to it. Her head cocked to the side and confusion was clear in her expression; who apologized to grass? There was not much known about her violet haired company, which meant that he could possibly be a strong plant lover or perhaps something else. Either way, Mavis was fairly certain that she would not be able to understand the young man's behaviors or what was going through his mind. One thing was positive, this man was definitely an oddball. Maybe he was bullied often, but never realized it due to how strange he was; this was the young man who shook off her rude words earlier with a smile. When he mentioned getting lost a lot, it became obvious to Mavis that this guy was probably harmless if he got lost that easily. Or at least clueless when it came to a sense of direction.
"I see. Remind me never to get lost in wilderness with you, cause I don't know about you, but I would like to not be lost for an eternity." Her comment held rude tones, a common for the girl.
When the mysterious individual began staring at nothing, Mavis raised an eyebrow. He seemed distracted, which would make sense if he got lost so frequently. His gaze seemed to linger on something, however, the ravenette was not certain what the stranger could possibly be looking at it. Upon the vague mention of seeing or feeling something, Mavis's eyes narrowed in confusion. She was quite clueless to what was going on here, until gradually her senses got infected by the strange world the boy was in. It started with tiny mutters, nothing coherent enough to decipher, but it got her glancing around. Her eyes went wide when she noticed the smoke fading in, it got her to jerk out of her comfortable ground position. She sat now, legs bent while her back leaned against the tree.
"What the hell?!" Mavis exclaimed, pausing to watch the odd smoke. She glared at her company. "Is that was you were looking at?! You could have told me!" Notes of anger edged her voice, he could have told her!
Although, little did Mavis know that she would not have been able to witness the odd smoke display or hear the random mutterings. Thus, for the time being, she believed being angered by the stranger's lack of informing a correct course of action. The ravenette felt oblivious for not noticing the smoke earlier, despite that being an impossibility. Her frustration with herself was visible on her face.

Salem La Schade Salem looked towards the girl as she made her exclamation about the smoke. Of course, he wasn't aware that she could see it too. His head tilted a bit to the side as he watched her before making a small frowning face and looking back up at the smoke. "I didn't know. Most of the time.. I see things that other people don't.." There was definitely some sort of somber tone to his voice, something empty about it. His eyes narrowed a bit as he watched the smoke disperse back into the trees. "We should probably get out of here before it gets back though..." He couldn't explain it, but he just had this feeling in the pit of his stomach that it had meant to harm them somehow. Perhaps it wasn't one of his imaginations after all.
The older male stood and stretched a bit before offering out his hand to her. Would she listen to him, and perhaps be his salvation, finally freeing him from these cursed woods. But he was quite prepared to stay there, lost in the forest until he eventually found his way out.

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ The sudden bout of smoke that descended from the treetops was rather peculiar, but also somewhat frightening. Had flames broken out somewhere in the forest canopy and this haze was merely a warning of what could possibly be coming their way? Mavis's face did not reveal her concerns over the concept, if she was correct this was certainly no time for cowardice. Her dark chocolate eyes remained fixated by the smoke, up until her company spoke in a voice of somber about seeing things that others could not. Immediately, the girl's gaze returned to the violet haired man, an eyebrow lifting in slight confusion at the concept.
"You see things others don't?" Mavis uttered quiet before bluntly adding, "so you have hallucinations? Are you sick or something?"
Sick people often seen hallucinations as a result of a feverish cold. It gave explanation on why perhaps he was suppose to be condemned to his room. When the ravenette's eyes returned to the smoke they widened, the smoke had suddenly dispersed as quickly as it appeared. She felt uncertain about what was happening; perhaps she was the one with the head cold or something else. Upon the concept of leaving got mention by the stranger, Mavis stared at her company, narrowing her brown eyes for a moment. She hesitated before taking his offered hand and getting to her feet, once she felt steady she loosened her grip with the intent of avoiding having to hold the strange man's hand.
"C'mon, let's go then," Mavis stated in an annoyed tone.
The ravenette began moving back the way she came at a slow pace, her steps cautious and senses on high alert. After the weird occurrence, she did not have any desire for these mysterious illusions to sneak up on her again. However, she still held some annoyance over the concept of having to leave her relaxation so soon.

Salem La Schade The violet haired male nodded slowly when it was mentioned that he commonly hallucinated. He supposed he was sick. He needed to take his medications on a rather regular basis in order to stay sane. And even then it didn't always get rid of them. It seemed that he always had trouble determining what was real and what wasn't. But he was only slightly relieved that the girl had seen it too. He was also glad that she had taken his hand and stood up. Of course she let it go right away, but that was alright with him too. He didn't exactly want her to be more uncomfortable that she already was. He let her start off towards whatever direction would be the possible right way out of the forest. After all, he would just get them lost again. He bowed just ever so slightly and motioned for her to pass him, and then he followed along behind her.
Every now and then, his eyes would travel up to the canopy of the forest, looking out for the smoke to come back. "They say that this forest is haunted though.. I'm not sure... If that's what the smoke is or not.. I have seen it all around the school though, not just in the forest.. It's just... Not everyone can see it..."

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ While Mavis took a few slow starting steps, she adjusted the placement of her bag and brushed the dust off her clothing. Her dark chocolate eyes noticed how he gave a slow nod as affirmation to the concept of him hallucinating; that was most certainly concerning. The smoke was gone which meant presumably the threat was halted for the time being. Once the task was completed, her steps sped up slightly as she prepared to take the lead from the violet haired man; he did state that he had a tendency of getting lost. Alas, the short girl found that instead the man gave a slight bow and surrendered the lead to her. An eyebrow was raised at the action, this mysterious student was definitely peculiar, which had become obvious with the manner he spoke and behaved. For the time being, the ravennette shrugged it off, not bothering to bring up the topic.
Cautiously, Mavis walked back towards the path, maintaining a somewhat hasty pace. She stepped over the log that had been demolished by her foolish belief of its sturdiness. When her company mentioned how people stated the forest was haunted, Mavis glanced back and rolled her eyes.
"Don't be stupid, there are no such thing as haunted forests," Mavis began, stopping for a moment. "Secondly, you might just need some bed rest. Maybe you're overworking yourself or something like that. Either that, or the entire school has decided to play a trick on you."
For a few more moments, her dark chocolate eyes remained locked on him before she turned on her heel and began walking back towards the path. Upon reaching it, the short girl waited a moment to make certain that the violet haired man was keeping up; not that it was hard task considering Mavis's height. However, there was something she had not asked him yet.
"Also, what's your name? You haven't told me that yet," Mavis asked.
While she waited for an answer, the ravenette's crossed her arms while her eyes looked about for more signs of the mysterious smoke or various other oddities.
