Hecate Rosenburg
FemaLe | 15 | gay | Year 1 |
Hypnopathy. | Telekenesis. |
POWER DESCRIPTIONS
Hecate is most interested in her power of Hypnopathy. It is the power she has better control over of the two. She can only keep someone hypnotized for around forty minutes, but she is working on improving that. There are also limits to what her subjects will do while hypnotized - she cannot convince them to cause damage to themselves or others. She can persuade them to tell her the truth or answer her questions honestly, so it becomes useful for gaining information. Hecate became aware of her power of Hypnopathy at the age of 13
She became aware of her Telekenesis about 8 months later, and she is still figuring out the limits of what it can do. As of now, she is able to move medium sized objects in her immediate surroundings and small objects (ie - utensils, cups) that are within a 20 foot range. She has been unable to manipulate anything at a distance farther than that, but she is working on it. There have been rare occasions where she has been able to move large objects, but this has only happened a handful of times and was at an extremely close range.

APPEARANCE
Hecate is short and slender, with long dark hair. It looks black unless caught in sunlight, where a dark purple can be detected. She is pale and has large violet eyes framed by long, heavy lashes. Her hair is straight and thick and she has heavy bangs across her forehead. She usually wears the majority of it down, but keeps two small ponytails on either side of her head.
She prefers to wear black, which is her favorite color, and is most comfortable in skirts and dresses, although she also loves comfortable sweatshirts and sweaters. She almost never wears heels and she considers them to be uncomfortable and impractical, and she almost never wears makeup because she considers it to be a waste of time.
She also is often accompanied by a small black cat named Willow, who she considers to be her familiar. Although having a pet is forbidden, she has adjusted her dorm window so that Willow can leave the room and wander the campus at night. If anyone untrustworthy enters her room she uses her hypnopathy to convince them that they didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

PERSONALITY
Hecate is blunt and brilliant. She has a very sarcastic demeanor and this, alongside her blunt comments, drive many people away from her. She cares a great deal about the few people who she is friends with. She has odd but surprisingly sweet ways of reminding them that she cares about them. Hecate is an incredibly loyal friend and will go out of her way to enact vengeance on anyone who treats them unfairly or cruelly. This ties into her fascination with revenge - she is an expert on Elizabethan revenge tragedy dramas and loves reading macabre plays. She has a fascination with dark topics like horror, revenge, and darkness and she wonders if this is what caused her powers to develop.
Hecate is incredibly studious and loves school. She aspires to be one of the top students in her year, and is very focused on increasing her knowledge and strengthening her powers. This can cause her to be obnoxious in class, she is constantly raising her hand to answer questions and snickering at students who answer incorrectly. She loves to read and loves practicing with her abilities. She is incredibly ambitious, to the point where she will do anything to achieve her goals, even if it puts her in harm's way. She has the mentality that sacrifice is necessary to achieve greatness. She is confident in herself and in her abilities.
Although she keeps a cool, sarcastic front, Hecate is extremely emotional and becomes upset and sad easily. This can cause her to become morose for periods of time, which sometimes causes her to distance herself from her friends unintentionally. During these periods of time, she can become especially selfish and will only focus on herself and how she is feeling. She also loses her temper easily and will lash out in cruel ways when this happens. She is not flexible and if things do not go her way she can become distressed and anxious. She is haunted by her past, in particular by the way her mother treated her and often wonders if she really is a monster. She has done her best to reclaim this and embrace it, but it oftentimes makes her feel broken and lonely. Her high emotions also cause her to question her sanity - she will act very irrationally while she is upset and this is frustrating to her because she is otherwise a very rational and controlled person.
Hecate is completely gay and is only attracted to women. She is usually too involved with herself and her studies to care about pursuing a relationship, but when she does fall for someone she falls hard. She will be incredibly loyal once she decides someone has earned it, but in the beginning stages of a relationship she will be untrustworthy and anxious, and will sometimes distance herself from the person even if things are going well. During this stage she needs a lot of validation from her partner, or she will become paranoid about how things are going. She is primarily attracted to women who are smart and powerful above all else. Relationships on a whole tend to stress her out, so she usually chooses to avoid them. When she finally becomes comfortable with someone and feels safe in being able to express herself and her emotions to them, she is a sweet, playful partner and is surprisingly thoughtful and usually very considerate.

BIOGRAPHY
Hecate was born to a very religious mother and absent father. She was originally named Mary. Her mother refused to speak about her father at all, so Hecate knows nothing about him and cannot even remember what he looks like. When her hypnopathy began to flourish, young Hecate was smart enough to know she had to hide it from her mom. She used the same strategy when she realized her mother would not be pleased about her sexual orientation. Unfortunately, when the telekenesis began to appear, her mother became very aware of inanimate objects moving or falling whenever Hecate became upset and became convinced that her daughter was possessed by a demon. Her mother slowly became less and less stable as she became more and more convinced about the evil nature of her daughter. It got to the point where she would scream at Hecate and shove crosses at her. Hecate's mother never physically harmed her but her actions wore at Hecate's emotions. She was treated as if she were a monster and was not allowed to leave the house without her mother's close supervision.
At the age of 14 she decided to become the monster her mother decided she was. Heartbroken from being treated in such a cruel way from her only family member, she did her best to embrace her darkness. Her mother had saved up a large amount of money and rarely used it for anything as she usually stayed inside the house. Hecate decided to steal a portion of this money one night and escape her home, deciding she would be more successful and happy on her own. She changed her name from Mary to Hecate and fled from home as her mother screamed and threw glasses at her.
After a few days on the road, she found a stray black kitten, who she took into her own care and raised. This was Willow, her current pet. To further embrace her supposed witchiness, Hecate decided that this creature was destined to find her because it was her familiar. Because of this, she is extremely attached to her cat. She identified with the lonely, pitiful thing, and decided they would both be outcasts together.
Hecate and Willow lived on their own for about a year. She was able to spare most of her mother's money by using her hypnopathy to convince strangers to help her. She had a few close calls that year, but ultimately was able to fend off potential attackers. She felt alienated by her powers and moved around frequently, never staying in the same city for over a month. During this time she was very lonely and would reflect on her broken family and on her identity. Her mother's words were never far from her thoughts and she really did begin to feel like a demon girl on the run. Sometimes she relished in this; she was darkness embodied, the essence of fear. She had power over normal humans and could use it so subtly that none of them would have any idea. Oftentimes, though, it caused her to feel damaged and lonely. She would never be able to open up to anyone about her powers - she was convinced they would either not believe her or be terrified. And maybe they were right to be terrified.
A little bit later, she discovered Aurora academy. Because of the money she took from her mother, she is able to afford a decent dorm room, but it is not anything close to luxurious. She aspires to be wealthy and live in a nice place like the students in the better dorms.
Hecate is the happiest she's ever been studying at Aurora Academy. While she still struggles with her identity and questions whether she is a good person, she feels she fits in better here than she has anywhere else. She is also fascinated by her own powers and by the powers of others and loves being able to study them and practice them and increase their strength.
