POWER DESCRIPTIONS
Frey has been working tirelessly to refine and control his abilities as well as study how to use them. He has excellent control over them but is still young and lacks the knowledge that would allow him greater power.
HEMOMANCY: Frey’s capacity to manipulate blood serves as an outlet for much of his skill as a mage. Frey’s Blood Magic, as he calls it, uses a system of paths and rituals to focus his will. Paths are learned expressions of magical principles developed into reliable, repeatable effects. However, Frey must concentrate his will and force the power of his blood to unnatural ends. If his concentration is not complete, if he falters, then the magic will fail, and in extreme cases such failure can have a lasting effect on Frey, draining his mental resources. Rituals, by contrast, are elaborate, sophisticated and codified instructions for producing set magical effects. Rituals vary in complexity, and require varying levels of occult knowledge to complete successfully. They often require the trappings of Hermetic magic - circles drawn in chalk, locks of the victim's hair, meditation, chanting ancient words of power and the like. Rituals can take hours, days or even months to perform, but if successfully completed will always produce the same result. They can be incredibly powerful, particularly when senior blood mages join forces. Regardless of what is being done Frey requires blood to power the effect, which can be quite dangerous if he uses his own(which is why he tries to draw on other's blood when he can).
NECROMANCY: Necromancy for Frey follows much the same principle as Hemomancy in that he is using blood to power certain effects and desired ends through either Paths or Rituals. Where the difference arises however is that Necromancy ascribes to narrower, more specialized paths and rituals focused on the world of the dead: wraiths and the risen. However unlike Blood Magic Necromancy has an active and poisonous effect on the world around it in the form of the Sequela. The strength of an individual Sequela depends on how often Necromancy has been used in a location and how potent its application was. Effects of Sequelae include the stunted growth of plants, lower fertility in mammals as well as harder births, visible marks of death on the practitioner (including corpse smell and a rotting visage) as well as violent mutations (including noxious pustules and rotting flesh in living creatures or plants taking on carnivorous and/or toxic qualities) and a slow weakening of the barrier that allows wraiths easier access to the world of the living. An added danger is that while Frey can use his Necromancy to attack and cajole spirits, he is perhaps more than others visible to the senses of spirits because of his powers and will most likely draw the attention of ghosts… some perhaps having less than pleasant intentions.
