[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]Everything was exactly as he'd left it. The neat cobblestone path looked as though it had been swept daily, and the small garden beds were just beginning to show the faintest bits of green. Even after the past few months, Callum was still a priss. But he'd come to love his garden and taking care of the cottage was just something he did now. Of course, he could ask Muirne to help, but the girl didn't do much but sleep.
The cottage itself wasn't completely remote, but the high hedges one each side created a rather private space. Soon enough the lilac bushes would bloom filling the hedges even more, and Callum would be left feeling as though his home was completely set apart from the town.
Leading his friend towards the home, Callum felt a pang of self-consciousness. It was nothing like the vast estate mansion he'd hoped to show Artemis one day, instead his current home was just an old victorian style cottage. The old heritage home had been uninhabited when Callum first bought it, but at least Artemis couldn't say anything about it being tasteless. The place had character after all, and Callum had done some interior decorating...just a little.
"I'm home." He called, pushing the front door open. After a few moments of silence, he offered his friend and awkward smile. "I have a cat." Although....she was only a cat half the time. He prayed silently that Muirne would stay in her cat form so he wouldn't have to explain to Artemis why there was a half-naked little girl in his house.
Slipping off his shoes, he set them to the side, beckoning Artemis to follow him in.

I’m Still Breathing, Artemis pulled the jacket tighter around her small frame, she felt a cold chill from her water soak clothing and it sent a shiver over her. Though she did wonder if it was more that she was nervous about going to Callum’s home. It wasn’t like having a dorm at school, this was where he actually lived – it would have more of his own possessions, things about his family…What if he lived with his family!?Artemis realised that she had never asked about his parents, it was something neither of them touched on. Probably for the best though as her parents were dead. Letting out a sigh she decided, logically, that he most likely lived on his own. He wasn’t the type to really bring people around to his place, she remembered that much – though he had changed since then…well not in every way.
They rounded a corner and Artemis found herself stopped out the front of a beautiful cottage. He had neighbours but they seemed to fade behind the trees and hedges that surrounded his home. It was like having a little oasis and for the first time since he asked her those horrible questions she didn’t want to answer, she smiled. Artemis didn’t say anything though, she might have if Callum didn’t seem so moody himself but she couldn’t fault him on that. She was moody too and the cold was starting to bother her that soon her brain could only think of having a hot shower.
She watched him step up to the front door and for a moment she simply waited on the pathway leading there. Her green orbs gazed over his form a little while he fumbled with his keys, his shirt clung to him and she could see his muscles again which made her wonder, exactly what did he do for the last year? He called out and that more her snap back into reality, he lived with someone? It made her begin to feel very self-conscious but as quick as those emotions came up they were quelled when he flatly stated he had a cat. This made Artemis relax and her shoulders untensed – It was just a cat, no harm in that because it wasn’t like cats could talk…
Taking a few cautious steps, she followed Callum until she was at the door where she waited for him to take his shoes off before she moved to do the same. It reminded her of a Japanese entrance, there was space to take your shoes off and place your umbrella and coat, then a step up was the starting of the house where shoes weren’t allowed. Artemis had slipped her shoes off and stood unmoving in the hallway. Her hair was still wet and she was still rather damp so she was leaving drops of water under her. “I’m sorry” She finally said not daring to walk any further inside for fear she would make a mess. name || @nike notes || -- tag || @callumblaine

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]With an awkward smile, Callum led her further into his home. "Don't worry, a little water never killed anyone." Even so, he decided to lead her directly through the living room, the shortest route to his own room where she could dry off and get a change of clothes.
Upon arriving at the threshold of his living room, Callum noticed things weren't exactly where they belonged. The couch was sitting at a rather awkward angle, and his armchair had been dragged over to the window where the sun had been earlier.
He could have only guessed Muirne moved them so she could bask in the sun. Of course, she hadn't thought to move them back, though. "Damn cat," he muttered, although his annoyance could just as well have been directed at the hair all over the couch.
This is why I can't have nice things. Very little in the cottage escaped Muirne and the tiny white hairs that seemed to spring up out of the ground. Usually, he tried to do something about it, but every time Callum vacuumed, more would simply appear the next day.
Leading Artemis through the living room, he paid no heed to the wet trail they were leaving behind. Callum was far more concerned about his friend, and what judgemental thoughts she might be thinking now.
The living space was like the rest of the house, decorated with the occasional painting and a few sparse bits of furniture. The odd arrangements aside, everything looked neat and well taken care of. The only exception was an old upright piano that looked like it had been turned into a place for clutter rather than anything else.
All of his bookwork and marking had been stacked in precarious piles along the top, just waiting to be taking care of. The fine layer of dust that had settled on the wooden surface was an obvious indication it hadn't been played in a long time.
"Here," Callum stopped along a narrow hallway. "You can get changed, and take a shower if you want." The door before them would open to reveal his bedroom and adjoining bathroom.
Unlike the rest of the house, this room was plain as could be. There wasn't even a piece of extra furniture or anything to add aesthetic appeal. There wasn't anything personal either. Most of Callum's private belongings were in his study, two doors down, and he kept the room locked whenever he wasn't inside.
Stepping aside to allow Artemis into the room, Callum pointed out his closet. "Feel free to wear anything in there, there are towels and face cloths underneath the sink in the bathroom."

I’m Still Breathing, With his little proclamation about water, Artemis took a cautious step forward until she had fallen in step behind him. Looking at as much as she could as they walked she was curious to see how Callum lived – she liked the homely feeling she got when she walked into the living room and it made her lips slightly curl into a soft smile. She had to admit that although it looked like some things were out of place she was rather drawn to sitting in that couch by the window. It was easy to tell it would have been bathed in the sun only an hour ago and Artemis had to admit it was a guilty pleasure to sit in the sun, she swore she must have been a cat in her past life.
Looking further around she noted that he didn’t seem to keep many photos – paintings were more frequent but still very few. He had a simple house, covered in white cat fur but still cosy and inviting. It was interesting to note that there was so much fur, she always thought Callum would had a freak out if things weren’t clean but she simply assumed that he had loosened up a bit since then. One thing did stick out for Artemis though, it seemed out of place in the room – maybe that was more to do with how it was being used (or not used). The upright piano had papers on it and other things that just seemed to clutter the space. It did make her a little sad given she knew how well he could play, he had played for her and she sung for him and together they could really create a beautiful atmosphere. It seemed like he didn’t play anymore and it was simply there to just fill space, it seemed almost unfair.
His voice pulled her from thoughts and she looked over to where he had stopped. She hadn’t realised that she had stopped following him and was staring at the piano like an idiot. Forcing her cold legs to move she found herself outside his bedroom door, she had never been in another’s bedroom before and it did make her shift uncomfortably on the spot. But the thought of warm water over her skin make her feet move almost without her direction and she suddenly found herself standing in his room. She turned back to look at him, he had moved closer to his closet and stated she could wear anything in there. It made her blush slightly but she hopped that he wouldn’t notice it. “Thank you” She softly spoke before heading towards the bathroom, gently closing the door behind her.

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]As Artemis drifted away, Callum's attention was immediately drawn to his next problem. What about Muirne? If the cat was in the house, he ought to warn her. His friend's quiet 'thank you' barely reached Callum; he was already walking away. "Muirne?"
Coming to a stop outside the kitchen, he waited. There was seldom a reply from the cat, often she ignored him even long after he'd found her. For a few moments, Callum would poke around the cottage leaving only his study and his bedroom untouched. When at last he came up with no cat he was able to breathe a sigh of relief. As long as she was out hunting, there shouldn't be a problem. Muirne didn't have to know about Artemis, and Artemis didn't have to know about Muirne...along with a few other things.
Trekking back to the kitchen, he fumbled through the drawers with numb fingers. It was a warm enough day, but after floundering in the middle of a waterfall, he figured it would be acceptable to feed his guest soup. There were leftovers from the night before, a meal one of his colleagues had been kind enough to make for him. He wasn't sure why the other teachers had the impression he didn't cook for himself, and more often than not Callum found little snacks and small freezer meals addressed to him on his doorstep, or in the staff fridge.
He couldn't complain though, especially not after his last cooking attempt had left permanent scorch marks inside the oven, and it was nice people were thinking about him. Producing a set of identical bowls, Callum set the table before pulling the pan of soup from the fridge and setting it over the stove. When the last of the lunch preparations for ready, he hovered nervously by the counter listening for the sound of the shower.
Now that they were both here, he felt nervous. Artemis wasn't how he remembered her, and while it upset him it wasn't the biggest problem. It was finally time to catch up, and Callum had a sinking feeling things wouldn't end well. Artemis probably wouldn't want to see him ever again. It might not have bothered him if it had been anyone else, But she was my first....
Wrapping his arms around his sides, Callum hugged himself to suppress a shiver. Letting his gaze wander the small kitchen, he wondered which was worse, to have lost Artemis completely, or to see her every day knowing she hated him. It's not like he'd gone back to protect her, not like Dartz. If he had, maybe the gap between him and Artemis wouldn't be as wide as it felt now, and maybe Dartz wouldn't be dead.
Shivering, Callum pulled off his shirt. He couldn't tell if it was his morbid train of thought that had brought on the sudden chill or his wet clothes. Slipping out the front door, he wrung his shirt out over the garden, draping it over the railing to dry. While Artemis showered, he sat out on the front steps with his head in his hands, hoping somehow they might support the weight of his thoughts.
