[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]Callum had often wondered if there was any way to get past the insane amount of marking he'd been given, yet again. It was times like this where it felt all the teachers just dumped all their marking onto him and went out for coffee and biscuits, leaving their poor slave- er, assistant to do all the tedious work.
Multiple choice tests were easy at least, and math tests he could always have done in a jiffy. But Callum nearly fell asleep each time he had to read a poorly written essay or a paper that went on and on about something he could care less about. Scowling, the man set yet another classful of marking to the side, turning to the most recent stack that had been deposited on his desk. "Thank you." He murmured curtly to the receptionist, or whoever had been brave enough to add to his workload, Callum gaze was already trained on the first line of equations.
His pen worked in quick flicks across the page, pausing every so often to add a half mark and the occasional 'x'. This student had his attention so far, in all of his classes he had done rather spectacularly, perhaps by the time he reached his fourth year he would have better grades than Callum himself. After inputing a general mark, Callum set the student's work aside in their personal folder.
Flexing his aching wrist, the man offered the clock a dull stare. He had been at this for two hours without a break, and nobody seemed to come check if he was okay. At least the empty classroom provided him a quite place to work, separate from the other students. Resting his elbows on the desk tiredly, Callum gently dabbed at his eyes, removing his contacts which had grown to irritate him.
When no one else was around, he saw little point in keeping them in. His eyes didn't bother him, and now that they were free, he gratefully rubbed them tiredly.
Turning to the next stack of paperwork, he was please to see it was math, something easy. Turning on some light classical music, he switched the pen to his other hand and continued to go through the tests and worksheets with little enthusiasm.

n A minus. She stared at the paper, willing it to change. Charlotte Brown did not get A minuses. She received A pluses, sometimes higher than that if she threw enough trouble. This was not acceptable. This assignment was not worthy of a letter of her name. If her parents saw this, they would take care of things for her without her having to worry about it. Unfortunately for her, that wasn’t possible now. Now that she was overseas at Aurora Academy, she had to take matters into her own delicate hands. And so here she was, marching down the school hallways on a bright Thursday morning. Her previous class had ended a few minutes prior, and she’d been directed by her professor to speak with a teacher aide a few classrooms down about any concerns she had about grades. She nearly scoffed at the word ‘concern’, but wisely held her tongue and gave her usual “Thanks so much!”, charming her way to that professor’s heart with her loving smile and innocent words. Turning on her heel, she left the classroom and began her way down the hall, intending to have a word with this so-called teacher aide. Calm down, Charlotte. Deep breath. He’ll reason with you.She whispered these words to herself as she made a sudden halt in the middle of the hallway, forcing other students to walk around her and grumble to themselves. That’s right. She had control of this situation. He would listen to her words and understand that she needed a perfect score. Charlotte Brown didn’t accept anything less than perfect. Nodding to herself, she started her walk once more, most students having already disappeared from the hallway. As she neared the final door at the end of the hall, she took a peek inside to see a man hunched over a desk toward the front of the classroom, a pile of papers stacked neatly on the desk beside him. It’s showtime. Gracefully opening the door, Charlotte made sure to close the wooden frame behind her as she took a few steps in the room, her face appearing hesitant. “Excuse me, sir? I was directed to come here about my grades.” Now in the room, she got a better look at the teacher aide. He had an appealing face, there was no denying that. She smiled her charming smile, grateful he was easy on the eyes. Flipping her hair over her shoulder, she took a few steps closer till she stood in front of the desk, looking down at his sitting form. “There seems to be a problem with my grade,” she explained softly, placing her assignment down on top of the paper he had placed in front of him. Pointing a slim finger toward the top of the paper, she poked lightly at the minus symbol beside the A, blinking wide innocent eyes in his direction. “I was hoping you could fix this.”tag(s): @callumblaine ━ words: 490 ━ notes: LESSGO

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]Callum's brow furrowed as the hallway noise filtered into his classroom. Pinching the bridge of his nose, the man stifled a sigh. It was probably another teacher with a dump of marking for him, so he only adjusted his glasses, focusing further on the piece of work in front of him. That was until a soft-spoken voice caught his attention, drawing his bi-colored gaze skyward to meet the shy girl who stood on the other side of his desk.
"Can I help you?" He asked, removing his glasses to get a better read on the girl. Callum was still trying to learn all the names and faces of the students he often interacted with, but as he met her honey-colored gaze, he was sure he'd remember a face like hers. Politely accepting the page that was not-so-politely dumped onto his desk, Callum turned it right side up, his gaze quickly scanning the assignment.
"I take it you'd like a better grade." He murmured softly, flipping the sheet over to examine the back. Callum couldn't recall marking this particular piece of work, and despite the sweet girl across from him, he didn't see anything wrong with the marking that had been done. "In that case," he set the paper down before her, tapping the minus sign with the same tenderness she had only moments before. "You need to fix this. Bring your corrections to me by the end of next class and I'll see what I can do."
Callum didn't just hand out free grades, he couldn't imagine any teacher doing that. If she wanted a perfect mark she would earn it, just like everyone else at the academy. With that conversation 'dealt' with, Callum returned to his marking, not even offering so much as a 'good bye'.

he man removed his glasses, and Charlotte came face to face with his two-toned eyes. One eye blinked red, and the other a gold, honey-colored hue similar to her own. She’d never met someone with the same eye color as herself. It fascinated her. Part of her wondered if they were real, or if he had one of those colored contacts and was trying to be different. If so, he was doing a damn good job. “I take it you’d like a better grade.”She nodded her head softly, hands neatly clasped together in front of her. He seemed to be examining her paper while she kept a polite smile across her lips, waiting patiently for his reply and ultimate marking of her paper. All it would take is one vertical line through the minus to make it a plus. He’d apologize for the confusion, and she’d be on her merry way. This was what she had expected, so she was shocked when things didn’t go her way as he tapped the paper, explaining how she needed to fix it herself and bring him the corrections. If he’d been paying attention, he would’ve noticed a twitch in her smile, faltering her expression for only a moment before she quickly fixed it. She felt a tick in her right brow and ignored it, choosing to take a deep breath and calm herself. People made mistakes. Maybe he was new. Yeah, that must’ve been it. This was still fixable. Nodding to herself, she pushed the paper back in front of him, once again covering the paper he was trying to mark. “I don’t think you understand,” she whispered softly, her voice sweet as honey. Meeting his eyes, she pointed once more to her paper. “I can’t have an A minus. Won’t you please fix it for me?” Charlotte flashed her brightest smile his way, tapping the paper lightly. “The usual teacher understands I need a perfect score. Won’t you do the same?”tag(s): @callumblaine ━ words: 330 ━ notes:

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]When the paper was rudely shoved in front of him yet again, Callum had to resist the urge to simply drop her grade to an 'F'. If not for the fact it would have been completely inappropriate and he would have had to deal with an unhappy student and the headmaster, Callum would have easily sent her on her merry way with a failing grade.
"Miss...Brown," he began after scanning her name quickly, "I'm beginning to think you simply don't understand. I'm not the usual teacher, and I'm not here to hold your hand. If you want a perfect score, give me perfect answers. It's that simple, do you understand now?" He asked, a brow raised. "I'm not here to make you look smart, your grades have shown you can manage quite capably on your own. If you don't have any further questions, I suggest you get to your next class." Despite his growing annoyance, Callum managed to sound somewhat polite, patient even.
Uncapping his red pen, he made a few circles on her page, indicating areas where she had made errors or gotten half a mark taken off. If anything he was helping her out by showing her which areas she needed to improve, even if that margin was small. The girl was smart academically, but who did she think she was to just waltz into his class and politely demand he give her a better grade?

harlotte released a slow, deep breath, the air gradually exhaling from her lungs as she forced herself to keep it together. That’s right. He was simply a teacher’s aide, and a poor one at that if he didn’t understand her needs. Not like the usual teacher did – especially when she threatened to make a scene about said needs. Her thoughts were once again interrupted by his smooth voice calling out her name, and she instantly perked up to face him attentively. She vaguely realized at that point she didn’t know his own name, about to bring that to attention when he continued on with his speech, her smile gradually ticking downward with every word he spoke. Clearly he was the one that didn’t understand the situation he was presented with. How could he not understand this wasn’t her fault, and that it needed to be fixed immediately? And then he just dismissed her. Just like that. When they still had unresolved business. Something in her snapped, and she began marching over around the desk to come face-to-face with the man behind her anger. Spinning his chair to face her, she gripped the handles of the chair tightly in her fists and stared him down, her once sweet and innocent expression wiped clean. Narrowing her eyes, she spoke low and slowly as if speaking to a child about something obvious. “Do. Not. Dismiss. Me.” Feeling her anger rising, she snapped in his face, “Clearly you don’t know who I am, for whatever reason, so allow me to introduce myself. I’m Charlotte Brown.”Really it should’ve been as simple as saying her name. He would realize who she was, apologize, and they would both be on their merry way. At least, that’s the way it should’ve been. But she had an inkling of a feeling she’d have to spell things out for him, so she spoke up once more. “That name carries a lot of weight. My grades have to be as perfect as I am, so this error on my paper needs to be fixed immediately. I’m not leaving till it’s done.”tag(s): @callumblaine ━ words: 350 ━ notes:

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]Before Callum could even hope to get another question marked, his attention was rudely ripped away from his desk as the student spun his chair around. The force behind her grip was enough to raise a brow, that and how close they were now standing. But Callum didn't flinch beneath her gaze, only cocked a brow in question as if to ask, Can I help you?
He would remain silent during her tirrade, the slightest curve of his lips were the only tell-tale signs of the smirk he was holding back. "Well," he began in a calm and caculative voice. "Clearly you don't know who I am. Allow me to introduce myself properly." Rising to his feet, Callum towered over the small girl, but he didn't use his height to intimidate her, simply offering her a somewhat polite bow. "I am Callum Blaine."
There was a brief pause, but unless the girl followed business politics - which he highly doubted - the name would mean nothing. "Do you know how much weight that name carries around here? None. Which is just the same as your own little lady. But fine," Callum picked up her assignment, carefully setting it back on his desk. "You want a grade just as perfect as you are, here."
Crossing out the A minus, Callum drew a large 'D'. The lettering was delicate, but the bold red marker was sure to be noticed. "Is there anything else I can help you with, Miss brown?" He cocked his head rather innocently, offering her the assignment.

harlotte was mildly impressed with his manner of dealing with her for the time being – something she would never admit aloud. Most people crumbled under her name and attitude, yet he remained with a calm and collective face throughout the ordeal. So he thought he could handle her? That was his biggest mistake. No one handled Charlotte Brown. Charlotte Brown handled herself. This thought rang through her mind as the teacher’s aide slowly stood, towering over her and offering a bow with his introduction. She raised a delicate brow, her mind still reeling with what kind of approach he was taking. Was he trying to befriend her now? That was a joke. And was his name supposed to mean something to her? Obviously not. She’d never heard of the Blaine family. He should’ve heard of hers, however. That should’ve been enough for him to realize his mistake of defying her, but clearly he was being stubborn about this. Regardless, this issue would be settled. Just as that thought echoed, he picked up her paper and explained that she would get a grade as perfect as she was. Finally. It’s about time. Feeling a sense of relief wash over her, it was quickly short-lived as she watched with wide eyes while he crossed out her previous grade to replace it with a D. Red flooded her vision. The next thing she knew, the two of them were on the ground with her straddling him. She vaguely realized she must’ve tackled him in that instance, but that was the last concern on her mind as she glared down at him with her golden eyes. “M-my p-paper,” Charlotte heard herself stutter out. She was too angry to think properly, but she had to in this instance. She forced herself to take a slow, deep breath, closing her eyes before opening them once more in a slow blink. Her long hair fell around her shoulders and reached the teacher aide’s chest she was currently upon. If anyone were to look in at that moment, the scene would be assumed to be an entirely different matter. Charlotte took another breath, trying to control her rising temper. The only thing stopping her from ringing his neck was the fact he was staff. At least her logic was still working, somewhat. Her body shook with her anger, and she tried speaking again. “F-fix it. Now.” She couldn’t get much else out without heating up her anger further, so she merely sat there waiting impatiently for a response, feeling her fingers flexing and twitching under her weight. tag(s): @callumblaine ━ words: 430 ━ notes:

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]Callum had gone a long time without anybody touching him. He didn't mind the brushing of shoulders or the gentle touch between friends, but it had been a long time since the man had experienced this. A sudden movement - the kind that would have normally had him flinching away, cowering in a corner and apologizing until the threat was over, the kind of movement that in his household was often followed by brutal discipline and the unforgettably harsh words of his parents.
Something inside the man snapped the second he felt her sharp nails digging into his shirt, forcing the two of them to the ground. It was as though someone had just cracked a whip over the poor old circus tiger who had finally had enough, and believe me, Callum had had enough.
The harsh words she spoke would likely be the only comprehensible words she would speak for the next few moments. Callum's eyes lit up like little lanterns, one flashing a brilliant gold, and the other a blinding crimson. It was too late for the little girl now, his penance stare had fully woken, and this time it wasn't coming out to play.
Callum Blaine prided himself in showing mercy. His ability, though meant for destruction was often used to immobilize students that got out too rowdy, or calm tempers that got out of control. Until this day, the man had never stooped so low as to unleash the entirety of his prowess onto another poor soul. But that ended today.
The girl hovering before him would be met with more pain than she could bear to comprehend. It wasn't the kind of pain that left you numb and unconscious, it was the brutal, relentless pain that left you begging for an unconsciousness that never came. It was torture at it's finest, a prowess that could inflict hours of pain on its victims in less than a second. It could leave you with no recollection of where you were, or even who you were. In fact it could leave you without the ability to recall anything at all.
Callum knew because he'd experienced it, he'd caused it, and he'd suffered it all at the hands of his own parents. Now, Charlotte would know it too.

he didn’t have a chance to even retaliate. All Charlotte saw was his two-toned eyes flash, and suddenly there was darkness. It was cold. She was alone. And all she knew was he was no longer under her. She wasn’t even sure where he was, or where she was for that matter. She felt isolated and alone, frozen forever in time. Charlotte let out a chilled breath, and at that moment it started. Her weakness had always been her emotions. She’d never been able to keep them under control, especially when her state of mind was put into question, and so it started there at her weakest point. Charlotte had been reduced to the state of a child, forced to have her emotions ripped apart as she watched helplessly. Everything she’d strived to be – perfection at its finest – was brutally torn to pieces as each of her weak points were forcibly dragged out of the shadows and brought to life. Everything she wanted to be was turned to dust and crushed on still, and there was nothing she could do to stop it. She was helpless. She was nothing. That thought plagued her mind for what seemed like hours, when in reality only a couple of seconds had ticked by. She.
Was.
Nothing. She hadn’t even registered when the torture finally ended, her mind still wrapped in turmoil over what had just taken place. Light vaguely registered in her eyes, and she blinked her tears away to realize she was back in the classroom, still perched on top of the teacher’s aide, shaking uncontrollably. Releasing her tight grip on his shirt, she let out a shaky gasp and collapsed on the floor beside him, her body still shaking as she cried out in pain. But pain of what? There were no wounds on her body. Nothing had been physically done to her. So what was she crying over? Her mind was still a wreck from the emotional torture she’d endured for what seemed like hours – something she couldn’t comprehend at that moment. All she knew was she was cold, and alone, with the phrase ‘You are nothing’ continuing on a loop in the deepest corners of her brain. tag(s): @callumblaine ━ words: 370 ━ notes:

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]Charlotte crumpled away from him, the way someone might slump over after having a heart attack. All the energy seemed to have drained from her petite form leaving...nothing.
Pushing himself into a sitting position, Callum rubbed his eyes, trying to clear the blurriness that had obscured his vision. The litte form beside him would cry out and in an instant his annoyance vanished; his coldness vanished. For a split second he could only stare at her, mouth parted in shock as the realization sunk in, he was becoming his father, a man who didn't think twice about inflicting pain on those weaker than him just so he could get his way. A man who used pain to elevate status and authority. And whilst Charlotte Brown had been the first student to ever face his penance stare in such a manner, she would also be the first to see Callum drop his cold facade. In this odd circumstance, the man could only react naturally.
"Oh my gosh I'm....I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to take it so far." Reaching out tentatively, the man would cup her shoulder, a motion that would gradually lead to him picking her up. He wasn't sure if she was still in pain, so he moved her as gently as one might move an injured bird.
Setting Charlotte on his desk, Callum held onto her shoulders to keep her steady. "Charlotte if you want a perfect grade, you're going to have to work for it. Nobody gets to be perfect all the time, and if you can't learn to improve your imperfection then you'll never reach your standard of perfection. Pretending to be perfect isn't going to do you any good, if you intend to be perfect."
Casting the abused paper a sidelong glance, Callum sighed, placing one hand on her head while gathering her paper with another. "Look, I'll help you get a better grade, but I'm not just going to do it because you're an elitist who thinks she's better than everyone. You're gonna have to raise the bar and set a higher standard of living for yourself. Perfect starts here," he tapped her chest gently, before giving her forehead a soft flick. "Not here."

h…gosh…so sorry…didn’t mean…so far.”Charlotte’s brain registered there was a person speaking to her, but she couldn’t acknowledge this at the moment. She was still coming down from Callum’s penance stare – something she didn’t realize, herself, what had all actually taken place. Still recovering from being mentally and emotionally tortured, she didn’t move when a hand was placed on her shoulder, nor did she react when her entire body was picked up and placed on the same desk she’d been shoving her paper on moments before. Everything seemed widely insignificant now. She couldn’t even remember why she’d been so mad before. Then Callum spoke, and his words registered more clearly in her mind at this point. She stared numbly at the ceiling as he went on to lecture her, his words faintly sinking in to her skin. So he did want to help her? She let out a weak gasp of air, trying to get her oxygen flow back to normal – it occurred to her at that moment she hadn’t been breathing well. Blinking her tired eyes, she struggled to move her head in his direction, waiting till the teacher’s aide came more into focus before trying to speak. “How does one…” she paused, struggling with her words. “Work for it?” Charlotte wasn’t entirely sure what he meant by that, but he did agree to help her, so that was a start. Perhaps she’d have to give a little in return. While these thoughts would normally never cross her mind, Charlotte was too wrecked and tired from the penance stare to bother complaining about anything right now. She just wanted what she came for to be over with. tag(s): @callumblaine ━ words: 280 ━ notes:

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]The dazed look earned a sympathetic frown, and Callum patted her head gently. "I'll show you sometime. For now, you look like you could use some medical attention." Turning so his back was facing her, Callum carefully slid his hands beneath her thighs, hoisting her up onto his back piggy-back style.
"Next time you have time to waste come find me, we'll work on your corrections to start - I'll show you what it means to get a perfect grade." One hundred percent didn't mean just getting everything right, it meant going beyond the right answers, exceeding the teacher's expectations.
"After that, we'll work on perfecting that attitude of yours." He added dryly. That would be another matter entirely, a challenge Callum found himself looking forward too, somehow. Setting her paper back onto his desk, Callum headed for the medical ward.
Class would be in session now, and hopefully, they wouldn't come across any teachers. The fewer questions he had to answer, the better.

harlotte squinted her eyes in Callum’s direction, letting out a surprised huff when he lightly patted her head. The last time someone had done that was when she was little. It made her feel small again. She sighed, straining her neck against the awkward angle of the desk. The wooden structure was getting rather uncomfortable, and she was about to say something when he surprised her yet again, picking her up and leaning her against his back for support. Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around his neck to keep from falling over. It was a weak and shaky grip, but a grip nonetheless – if she were to fall, she’d simply blame him for it. Nothing was ever her fault, after all. Nodding this thought in her head, she listened silently as he began talking, assuming he was taking her to the infirmary. She could use a cool pack of ice on her head right about now. Truth be told, she was still shaky from the incident, trying to calm her nervous limbs down to avoid Callum noticing. Charlotte snorted at his words of attaining a perfect grade. “You could’ve…just given me…a perfect score,” she huffed, trying to catch her breath. Now that her mind was slowly coming out of its haze, she was starting to gradually get her fighting spirit back – something she couldn’t believe disappeared in the first place. That place, wherever she was sent, sure did a number on her. “After that, we’ll work on perfecting that attitude of yours.”Her grip around his neck tightened. “You know, I could choke you from here,” she grumbled, glaring daggers at the side of his head. At this rate, she’d be lucky if they made it to the nurse’s station. tag(s): @callumblaine ━ words: 290 ━ notes:

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]Some kids never learned. Callum rolled his eyes as she mentioned her 'perfect' score yet again. "When people just give you perfect scores that you don't deserve, you make yourself look like a joke." Already the man was back to his cold and rather blunt behavior, but the sudden grip on his neck sent his body back into fight mode.
Beneath her weight, his muscles rippled, tensed as if they almost expected her to carry out her threat. His eyes burned into the ground ahead, but his tone was surprisingly light as he replied, "You're a little bit of a devil, aren't you?"
Swinging the infirmary door open with his foot, he offered the nurse a silent wave. As a student, he'd been in and out of this place countless times, and the moment she saw him she dropped her paperwork, a rather worried gaze turning towards them.
"She just needs a check up." Callum answered the silent question, setting Charlotte down on one of the beds and moving away immediately. She wasn't all bark, he knew that much and he'd rather avoid another bite.
The woman hardly looked at Charlotte before she was pulling all sorts of instruments out of her cupboards. "Cal, you didn't use your penance stare on Charlotte did you? She's so sweet! How could you?" The nurse would exclaim when Callum failed to reply in his allotted two seconds.
During his time as a student, Callum had been in more fights than he could count. His natural air of arrogance, and the blunt manner by which he spoke never seemed to fly around his classmates. Of course, it never seemed to help that the man didn't need to raise a fist to knock someone clean off their feet, a single glance would do just that and more.
"Just a simple psych test is fine," Callum interrupted the nurse who was a little overbearing as she fawned over her patient. "Might as well make sure her head is screwed on straight," Callum tossed Charlotte a shy wink, despite his genuine worry. Sure, she was insane for just tackling him like that, but it would be his own fault if he'd messed her up for real.
Turning his back to the girls, Callum squatted by the freezer, pulling it open. He was half-aware of the nurse talking, partly reprimanding him for harming such a 'dear girl', and then expressing her clear annoyance as he went rummaging through her freezer.
When he'd finished his scavenging, Callum returned from the freezer with a popsicle. Really they were only there for the younger students, but that didn't stop him from tearing open the package, breaking the two pieces in half. He gave one half a slow tentative lick before offering the other to Charlotte. The sheepish look he shot her may have been an apology, and this half a popsicle was the only peace offering she was going to get.
