Dance class was fun, but after school, Rhys needed something to take the edge off the glaring pain in the foot he had been given by his lovely new dance partner. Surprisingly enough, or unsurprisingly depending on who was asked, Rhys frequented the pool area, wearing a full body suit as a swimsuit. Why? Because there were a thousand reasons underneath the suit that showed something disturbing from his childhood that, as far as he was concerned, should never be shown, ever. Well, whatever. He was here now, and the pool was only somewhat filled. The day had been sunny, and a good number of people were here, but not a massive amount of people. So for Rhys, as he headed to what he saw as the illegal diving board, he figured. Why not have a little fun with diving? The pool wasn't too deep, but if anything, how deep it was didn't matter to Rhys. Making his way to the diving board, he began to bounce. This board was safe-ish, obviously a menace to the school's budget in case a lawsuit was ever made. After a few solid bounces though, Rhys leapt into the air, using his power to subtlely throw him further with momentum, and then, as he floated there in midair for just a second, he began to spin wildly. As soon as he slammed into the water, he extended the space he had to fall into, and landed safely into the water. Sure, there weren't any girls or guys he cared about around, but as his head bounced back to the surface, his wet hair clung to his face. Or was there no one he cared about nearby? As he began to float on the water, he made a sigh of relief. And prepared to stay there for the rest of the day. Amaryllis Coll

Amaryllis raised a hand to her mouth, yawning quietly. Today had been exhausting. Aside from dealing with a grin-bearing showoff in her new dance class, she now had a new amount of homework to get started on. Normally she would shuffle off to the safety of her dorm, but the day was sunny and bright, and she had an itch to relax. She’d already been through enough for the day, having to stretch to unreasonable proportions, and so she chose for her relaxation to go swimming.
Not actually swimming, but floating. She was aware of the school’s supply of pool toys in the locker rooms and knew she could probably grab a floatie, as she wasn’t actually able to swim up to this point. Spending most of her life indoors under the stress of her mother’s reign, she never went to pool parties or the beach and therefore never learned the vital life skill. Regardless, she was determined to relax today.
Nodding this thought in her mind, she waltzed in the girls’ locker room and picked a locker along the wall, stripping her regular clothes off and swapping out for a standard-issue school bathing suit. Being the one passed out to everyone, it wasn’t flashy at all and was a plain blue one-piece. Most other students wore their own swimsuits to the pool, but as Amaryllis didn’t have any other choice and didn’t want to waste money on a new one, she chose to wear the standard one.
After changing and locking her belongings away, she padded over barefoot to the pool supply box and fished around till she pulled out a blue pool noodle, deciding this would work just fine for what she needed to accomplish and setting off for the pool itself. It wasn’t too crowded today as she made her way over to the shallow end, dipping her foot in to test the water before slowly inching her way inside the pool, her body slowly relaxing to the cool temperature.

The relaxation of the pool today was unparalleled to anything. He could feel the pain in his foot fade away in the gentle waters, and despite his flippant showboating on the dive board, he felt that he could just relax. The chlorine-filled waters were slowly putting him to sleep. Though, he found it odd why he thought he saw a familiar purple nearby. Oh well, it must have been nothi- Wait. Purple? Rhys' eyes popped open, as he opened one eye, and viewed in the distance. Sure enough, in a school-sanctioned one-piece, possibly a nervous yet happy twinge in Rhys' back coursed through him. His mouth curved into a smirk. This would be a less relaxing day, but he couldn't not poke the bear, especially with the bear grabbing a pool noodle to dip inside the pool. Peculiar. The ice queen grabbing a noodle, by the shallow end? Rhys' mouth began to curve into a mischevious smirk. Very interesting. What was that for, he wondered? A flip in the water, and he began to go under yet again, and make a swim to the shallow end. Without Amaryllis knowing any the wiser. When he made it to the shallow end, Rhys popped out, out of view, and fixed his hair. Once he fixed himself up to appropriate present-ability, he leaned against the wall of the pool. Whistling. As soon as his eyes met Amaryllis', he looked surprised, despite how fake it was. "Amaryllis? Are you stalking me?" he felt his mouth curve into a smirk, his eyebrow rising to sell the act. Now admittedly, despite the mostly black full body swimsuit, the abs that Rhys had from his years of acrobatic prowess showed in spades, and while they weren't a six pack by any means, they were impressive. Not to mention, he was trying. "Didn't realize you liked me that much, ice princess. I'm touched." he barked out in confident, false bravado. And then he became serious for a moment. His grin was gone. "Don't worry, I got here about five or ten minutes ago. No, I'm not stalking you, you have to try harder than a foot stomp to take my heart, doll." he leaned back against the side of the pool, the same height as Amaryllis, as he waited for the response. At the very least, it wouldn't be that off, now that it was a full on coincidence. Right? Amaryllis Coll

Amaryllis let out a slow breath as she clung to the pool noodle, watching the environment around her. She could feel her stress gradually fading away with each kick her legs made in the water, eyes lazily wandering around her side of the pool. She watched a boy get pushed into the pool by his friends; she watched another boy point and laugh while hanging on the edge; she watched a girl doggy paddle beside her.
Everything began melting together in her vision as she slowly closed her eyes, letting out another deep breath as she completely relaxed from the day’s events.
“Amaryllis? Are you stalking me?”
She knew that voice. Frowning, feeling her stress begin to return, her eyes blinked back open and she glanced to her right, sure enough finding a confident Rhys basking in her misery. She shot him a glare, about to accuse him of the same thing when he continued on teasing her about liking him before eventually growing serious and admitting to their meeting being a coincidence. Her brow rose, unconvinced. Nothing with him seemed to be coincidence in the slightest.
“I didn’t realize they allowed children in this pool,” she coolly replied, narrowing her eyes. Amaryllis was secretly trying to scare him off, but had a sinking suspicion it wouldn’t work like it normally did on others. Clutching the pool noodle to her chest, listening to him mention when she stepped on his foot, she murmured lowly, “You seemed to like that a bit too much.”
Amaryllis should’ve just left it at that and paddled off to the deeper end, ignoring him, but even with her pool noodle she felt uncomfortable doing so. And so she stared off at him, daring him to challenge her with her hard eyes.

Okay, maybe there was a little masochism in Rhys. He could have gone without messing with Amaryllis again. Honestly, he would've lived a long, healthy life without that girl to ruin it consistently, or stomp on his foot, or his feet during dancing. But really, But then, if he did, his life would've been boring, and admittedly, the lovely girl was more interesting. Ice queens tended to be. Oh, a children insult, huh? Rhys retorted quickly; a little too quickly. "Says the shallow water swimmer with a floaty needle." Okay, smooth. That would show the ice queen who was more childish than the other. Even... if the action of doing so may have painted Rhys to be just as childish. So maybe he shot himself in the foot as much as she was an easy target. What did it matter? Then Amaryllis pointed out that he liked the foot stomping too much, to which Rhys made a hearty laugh, before his stupid grin plastered on his face again. Of course he didn't like it. He definitely didn't want that again, and especially did not want the girl to step on him anymore. Who on the planet would want that kind of treatment? "Hardly. Still hurting from that. That's why I came here, princess. To relax." he winked, before resting his head back, and then standing up in the shallow waters. It was time to get an answer. "So, should I guess why you have a noodle in the shallow end, or is this your vulnerable act that loves to make me talk to you? Because you must really be crazy about me to want to talk to me after earlier." Rhys was mostly joking, but looking at the noodle, he had to be sure. What reason could there be. Probably to relax. After all, this wasn't like a TV show. People usually knew how to swim, and he thought little ms ice queen would be no different. So why the noodle? He wasn't sure. But he waited for his answer, getting off the side of the pool, and walking towards her just a bit, the lower half of his full suit in the water now, as he crossed his arms. Amaryllis Coll

Amaryllis bristled at his comment on her pool noodle. She didn’t appreciate her weaknesses being pointed, and her lack of swimming experience was certainly one of those. Her eyes narrowed in response, feeling her nails dig in the noodle and clutching it closer to her chest. Why was he even here? She still wasn’t convinced that he wasn’t stalking her, trying to ruin her life now that he was a part of it. She felt a few strands of her bangs fall over her eyes and quickly swept them out of the way, tucking the strands behind her ear.
Rhys proceeded to tell her he was here to relax, and she nearly groaned in response. So they happened to be there for the same reason at the same time? She wasn’t buying it. He had to be stalking her at this point. There was no way she’d believe the two had something in common, even if it was as small as wanting to relax at the pool at the same time.
It was at that point while she studied him closely that she noticed his full-body suit, blinking in surprise. Amaryllis would’ve pegged him for the showoff-y type, but the bathing suit was more modest than her own. Realizing she’d been staring a few seconds longer than was appropriate at his body, her eyes drifted up to meet his own as she replied with, “You won’t catch any more girls with a plain suit like that.” After knowing him for only a day, it wasn’t a secret anymore that he attracted girls left and right, deciding to tease him about his lame choice of attire. Honestly, she was surprised he wasn’t in something crazy like a speedo.
She puffed her cheeks out childishly when he brought up her pool noodle again, looking to the side flustered as she stammered out, “I…” She bit her lip, closing her eyes and mumbling, “I…can’t swim.” Peeking her eyes open to look over at him, she waited for the inevitable laughter that would follow.

Seeing her eyes narrow, Rhys had a feeling he wasn't in the best of graces with Amaryllis; which was a problem that he needed to fix before things got too heated. They were stuck together for the semester, after all, so if something tore them apart on day one, then they would have to keep seeing each other regardless. Thinking about it that way, Rhys knew he couldn't let it sit where it did. He did have to admit, however, that it was cute watching her move the hair out of her face. Rhys felt herself, in a day-dreamy way, look at her eyes, but shook it out of him. Nah, no way. Not with her. She was his opposite in almost every way. Right? Wait. Was she staring at him? Did Rhys just notice her gawking at him? And then the insult came, and Rhys looked down at himself, eyeing the full body suit, and grinning, only this grin was different than normal. This was a nervous, don't-question-me-further grin. The sheepishness was unbefitting of Rhys. Immediately, he dodged the question. Instead, he focused on what Amaryllis did next. Childishly enough, she she looked flustered, biting her lip and looked away. Mumbling that she didn't know how to swim. Rhys felt it would've been an easy target to laugh though, so he decided to stick on that. Best to avoid the full body suit and focus on the other thing. He blurted out. "You can't?" His eyebrow rose in intrigue, and with his stupid grin returning, he held his hand out once more, like he did earlier to become her partner. "If you want, I can teach you. It's not hard, promise." Rhys focused the conversation on what mattered, and preferably, not on his suit. If anything, no one needed to see that. And he would grill anyone who tried to see the scarred body of his in its entirety. Amaryllis Coll

Amaryllis clung to her pool noodle like a lifeline, vaguely watching as someone jumping off the diving board in the deep end and frowning in thought. It was a shame she’d never be able to do that. They always say the grass is greener on the other side, and she couldn’t agree more with that statement. She secretly longed for all the things she couldn’t or was incapable of doing, and swimming was up there on the list. She let out a heavy sigh at the depressing thought, turning her attention back to Rhys.
When she teased him about his bathing suit, she noticed a change in his eyes as he didn’t bother with a witty remark like usual. Well that was unexpected. She didn’t think there was ever a chance he wouldn’t take to forcibly charm someone – that someone being her for the day. Nevertheless, he didn’t seem interested in furthering the topic and she let it drop, merely blinking her eyes back at him.
He seemed surprised about her inability to swim, questioning her and causing her cheeks to puff out once more in annoyance. What would she have to gain about lying about something like that? And just like that, Rhys smoothly transitioned to offering to teach her, holding his hand out similarly to how he had in dance class.
She stared at his hand in thought, reaching her own hand out in response. Inches away from grasping his hand she hesitated, stopping her movement to stare up at him suspiciously. “What’s in it for you?” she mused. Clearly he wouldn’t teach her for free; they hardly knew each other. What motive could he possibly have for helping her? She wasn’t going to agree to teaching without knowing what he was after.

The movement of her hand was about to make it to his. Rhys prepared to smile, but then there was hesitation. When the question was asked, Rhys blinked, and rose a brow. Normally, he wouldn't ask for anything, but somehow the idea that he could get something out of this intrigued him. Ulterior motives were never his spiel, but for Amaryllis, he almost thought about adopting one real fast. As he watched her, his red eyes shined with a mischevious spark of light. Then Rhys responded. "A date." He didn't say it to mean it, not completely, but to see Amaryllis' reaction, just to see how she'd respond to the line. Regardless of her reaction, he stayed with a poker face that wouldn't let anything slip. And then he began to grin, waiting for the right moment. And then he began to chuckle a bit, shaking his head just a bit. "Kidding, kidding. You don't do partners, right?" he waved his hand in front of his body, and made sure to recite the same line that she told him the first time they met, a knowing look on his face. If she backtracked to it, then maybe, but he doubted it, highly. "Wouldn't mind some tutoring though; pretty sure you have great grades. But strings free. None attached. You know the saying."He got didn't wait for her to hesitate any longer, and instead pulled her hand to pull her off the noodle, and got into a familiar dance pose, holding her close for just a moment, his grin close to her face now. It was a bit of eagerness, but as soon as he let go, he grabbed onto her hands, and let her float. "Okay. Now. Start kicking your feet. Okay?" Rhys made a pleasant smile after he finished speaking, and waited politely for the girl to begin kicking her feet behind her. Amaryllis Coll

“A date.”
Amaryllis blinked, her eyes widening. A date? Her face reddened in embarrassment and anger, staring at him like he’d grown a second head. The confidence he had alone for asking her after her stomping his foot was astonishing, and she reeled back slightly in confusion.
And then he laughed, explaining how he was joking. Her shoulders visibly eased at his words, though her eyes remained sharp. She felt foolish for taking him seriously in the first place, evidence of her light blush still shown across her cheeks. Amaryllis huffed in annoyance and feigned ignorance, shrugging her shoulders like she didn’t care that she just embarrassed herself.
Rhys continued on to playfully suggest tutoring him before taking it back, offering her lessons with no strings attached. She shook her head in disagreement. “I don’t owe favors. I’ll agree to tutor one class for you,” she mused, staring thoughtfully at him. As long as that subject wasn’t dance, but she doubted he’s suggest it even as a joke. Both of them were well aware of her lack of flexibility.
He suddenly pulled her pool noodle away and she panicked slightly, reaching her arm out toward the toy in mild desperation. “Ah, wait!” But he pulled her closer and she frowned, eying the tossed away noodle longingly. She didn’t trust a practical stranger to keep her afloat, but if she was persuading him with tutoring he might be more obliged to help her sincerely. He suggesting kicking her feet at she looked at him like he was stupid, saying hotly, “If I lift my feet, I’ll sink.” Was he trying to get her to drown? Maybe it was a special way of swimming? She hesitantly lifted one of her feet, shortly followed by the other and panic arose as her body began sinking. Amaryllis kicked and splashed and clung to Rhys’ arms for dear life as she tried kicking, failing miserably at it and sinking further into the water.

Call it priceless, but Rhys just found amusement in the purple-haired girl as soon as her face reddened. Was that really how the ice queen reacted? Was that embarrasment from him asking? Anger because he asked? He wasn't sure what the reaction had been. Maybe a blend? Who was to say? Or maybe she really was interested in acrobat? Rhys was truly unsure. Even after explaining it to be a joke, she only seemed to show it physically, and then, even her eyes still threw daggers at him. Though the slight bit of blush was.... odd. He wasn't sure as to why. Rhys rose a brow at her part of the deal, to which, he smiled. That sounded fine. Perhaps then he could actually learn math. Surprisingly enough, he actually wanted this not for the girl, but for the deal itself, as he did need some help with a few of his own subjects. Like math, or maybe history. He'd easily sleep through history, and math... well, he found little point to it, even though he himself enjoyed adding and subtracting distance via spacial manipulation all the time. He already made the deal as he pulled Amaryllis to him, and he hadn't exactly thought she couldn't swim at all, but mostly just wasn't sure exactly how... so when she began to sink into the water, Rhys actually began to stress a smidge. Immediately, he went under in the shallow waters, and placed his hand on her stomach, to push her up with one hand. With a quick breath, he knew that he had at least gone way too prematurely. He sighed in releif once he got Amaryllis some air. "Okay. You can punch me later for that one, doll. I'll keep up up with my hands. We're going to try to have you swim in place right now, okay?" Rhys leaned over and grabbed the waternoodle, handing it back to Amaryllis, with a more concerned grin over his normal charming one. "Alright? Now, do this, alternating between each arm." with his free arm, he began to showcase the proper arm motion for swimming. Amaryllis Coll

Amaryllis saw her life flash before her eyes.
She saw her mother forcing her into the tortures of her mind. She saw her sister fall unconscious, never to be awoken up to this point. She saw pictures of her father, the man she’d never known. She saw herself staring longingly at her childhood crush from afar, wondering what it felt like to be cared about. She saw her powers activate, taking it out on her mother. She saw herself running away to this academy as soon as she had the chance. She saw herself become the ice queen of the campus, left to be a loner and feared by most.
And then she saw a flash of black as Rhys pulled her to the surface.
Amaryllis shook her violet hair from side to side, rubbing her eyes and glaring at the boy before her. Part of her realized she could’ve just stood up – as they were still in the shallow end – but she was determined to get this right. She wasn’t a quitter. Despite this, she still blamed him for her problems, her eyes narrowing coldly in his direction as he explained they’d try a different method of swimming.
She watched him hand her back the pool noodle and her expression softened, instantly snatching the noodle from his hands and holding it close to her chest for fear that it would be taken away again. He proceeded to show her an arm stroke, and her brows rose in response. “First it’s my legs, and now it’s my arms. Make up your mind,” she grumbled, situating herself more comfortably on the noodle. Nevertheless, she did as she was told and began mimicking the arm strokes with the safety of both her noodle around her and her feet on the pool floor. “Like this?” She blinked up at him, curious if she was doing it right. Clearly she’d failed at kicking her legs, so she hoped she improved a touch with her arms.

Rhys felt horrible. He almost let the girl drown, and if anything, now he felt an overwhelming sense of guilt, a dash of dread, and honestly, a bit of sadness that wouldn't go away. It was his fault, and he would blame himself. Even though his grin was wide, it was a lie. His happiness was a lie. His grin was a lie. Well, at least she was just as sassy as she was when she went under, and as soon as she grabbed the noodle, Rhys began to explain how it was done, she began to try it. Admittedly, her legs weren't... great at this, but her arm work was satisfactory. She wasnt kidding when she said she didn't know how to swim though. It was kind of funny, but Rhys wouldn't dare to laugh, else he get crucified. Still, if nothing else, she did use her arms better; since she did have two left feet. "Yeah. You're doing fine, Amaryllis. See?" Rhys made a smile, something to let her know she was doing fine, while at the same time trying not to patronize her. Helping her move her arms a bit, he realized she was getting it down properly enough. So he'd have to teach her to swim and to dance? Truly, she must have been a genius academic, because she was not an athlete. With that, he began to let her sink just a bit into the water, attempting to let her do this by herself, without needing to hold onto her; and she had the noodle, so he didn't need to keep her up anyways. So why was he so worried she might drown again? After a moment, he let go. Rhys got off his feet in the shallow water, and began to swim himself, to show her proper technique. Not to show off, but to give her an idea of how it was done. After he made it to one end, he kicked off back to her, and after he finished, he got up, standing beside her. "There. That help any? That's the technique you want."Amaryllis Coll

Amaryllis continued moving her arms in strokes, keeping her noodle as a lifeline tucked under her arms as she did so. She didn’t think she was doing that bad, although her arms were beginning to feel slightly tired from their constant use. It was a wonder how professional swimmers did multiple laps. She shook her head at the thought, gradually slowing her arm speed.
Rhys encouraged her, saying she was doing well. She nodded her head in response, stopping her movements altogether and letting him move her arms for her, watching with mild curiosity. She was slowly adjusting to his presence, realizing he’d be a constant in her life for at least the next semester while they shared dance class together as partners. Might as well be civil and try not to step on each other’s toes – again.
After he slowly released her, she floated there in the pool while watching him swim across the length, demonstrating how it was done. Her eyes followed him all the way to the deep end and back to the shallow, tilting her head in thought.
An idea just occurred to her.
Suddenly feeling more confident about her newly-found inspiration, Amaryllis tightened her hold on her noodle and began manipulating the air around her, creating a heavy breeze. This breeze focused on pushing her body forward, allowing her to ‘swim’ without the need for movement as she breezed through the water, being pushed toward the deep end. Her nerves got the better of her as her feet no longer touched the ground during that period, feeling herself twitch in anxiety to get her feet back on the ground. Turning, she allowed the wind to push her once again to the shallow side, her confidence rising once more now that her feet could touch the ground again.
She looked over at Rhys with a confident look across her face, tilting her chin up in the air, satisfied with herself. “Does that suffice?”

Every movement of her arms was going well! She was picking it up pretty quickly, and honestly, Rhys was pretty ecstatic about that. Even after just a bit of work, she was getting it, and it seemed too that his swimming had given her something to work with. Though he had no idea by how much. Then, it sort of just happened. Rhys watched in amazement, as Amaryllis swam forth, to the deep end without even moving her body, and Rhys just watched, his red eyes fixated on her bu- on her. On her, not... not anything else. He watched as she mad eit to the deep end, and then made her way back. Now, Rhys was pretty observant, but in fairness, he had... trouble concentrating, we'll say. So he missed what it was she did. Turning to her as she spoke again, he merely nodded. "I thought you said you couldn't swim...?" he seemed to question it for a moment, before putting two and two together. His mouth curved into a knowing smirk, as he crossed his arms. Oh yes, he knew exactly the reason why she did this. He opened his big mouth.
