Nuria Luz Santos
FEMALE. | 17. | HETERO. | YEAR 3. |
PYROKINESIS. | Adaptive Intuition. |
POWER DESCRIPTIONS
Pyrokinesis || In short, Nuria is able to create and control the element of fire. In a more detailed explanation, she is able to use the elements found in the air to ignite a spark and expand that spark into a roaring flame for her to control. She is only able to focus on a single flame at a time, however she is able to control that flame in a very finessed way, threading it and twisting it into a work of art. Fire is a chaotic element, because of this she can only control one flame at a time, more and one of her flames risks fizzling and dying. Nuria does enjoy making her flames create various shapes before letting them explode in a spectacle of flame.
Adaptive Intuition || Nuria is able to see an action and repeat it with very little training. She can't remember everything she sees, but once her body experiences something it's easy for her to repeat the motion over and over again. This allows her to learn various forms of martial arts as well as dance, playing instruments, painting and drawing, and other physical activities.

APPEARANCE
As a child, her hair was always pulled back into a tight ponytail. This is why she keeps her black hair down, she wants to distinguish from her past self. Her face is very expressive, even though she tries very hard to conceal them, her emotions always betray her. Her fierce blue eyes are well trained in giving looks that could kill.
She stands at only five foot four, but don't let that fool you, she will use her small limbs to her advantage. There is no one tall or short enough to get away from one of her dropkicks or punches. And just like her small legs, other parts of her are small, to her frustration. Her personality is definitely trying to overcompensate for her small chest and stature.

PERSONALITY
Nuria has a good head on her shoulders, but despite her strong will she lacks a sense of determination, unless it has to do with her powers. She can be easily distracted from her goals, which is why she's playing a never ending game of catch up with her school work. She's very independent, she's had to fend for herself for so long that she doesn't see the need to have anyone around her.
Not having her parents be a part of her life has been both a blessing and a curse. For the most part, she's free to do what she pleases when she pleases. She knows she's better off on her own than in a toxic environment. Then there are days when she wishes she had at least one person as her support system. She doesn't have anyone to turn to in her time of need, she's forced to push weakness aside and keep going.
This has made Nuria detached to those around her, though she can put a great facade to let others think she's a normal as can be. In order to keep her true feelings hidden, she's become rather snarky and sarcastic. She's a bit of a show off as well, though that's just due to her insecurities, she has to compensate one way or another. The idea of hiding part of her feelings falls short when Nuria reaches her boiling point. She's never been one to control her temper. Sadness she can contain, but fury is a whole different subject.
Although Nuria isn't a bad person, she will do anything to protect herself as much as she can. She likes to think that her moral compass is completely straight, but she's been known to turn a blind eye just as long as it will benefit her life. It doesn't make her a bad person to want to move ahead in life.

BIOGRAPHY
Nuria had the makings to become her parents' perfect child. She was raised in a very religious environment and was meant to be meek and respectful, but as the girl grew, she found it more difficult to keep her anger under control. What could she be angry about at that age? No one knew, she couldn't understand herself. Anything would spark it and a tantrum would ensue. Her parents believed that religion could fix anything, they attended church every other day and dragged her along. The more she was forced to do something, the more she despised it.
Nuria hated her upbringing, but she never once had ill feelings towards the people that brought her in to this world. Sure, they had their ways of doing things, but she felt love for her parents. She was under the assumption that they would love her unconditionally as well. She held that belief until the night she activated her powers. Nuria must have been around thirteen at the time and as a teenager does, she had engaged her parents in an argument over dinner. She was sent to her room, forbidden to emerge until she was ready to fix her attitude and give them a sincere apology. Well, that didn't sit well with her.
They were never going to get an apology from her! She felt the anger radiating all over her body, the heat of it consuming every fiber of her being. As her small hands clenched into a fists, fire erupted from her skin. Panic took over anger, only causing the flames to grow. The noise that came out of her mouth was so foreign to her ears, but she knew it was her own voice screaming for her parents. The moment they ran to her room and witness the ungodly sight, they knew what they had to do. This child that they had raised in the light was going to unravel all the good they had done in the world. She was to be sent to Portugal, where her parents had heard of a priest who'd be able to help her.
Now looking back at it, Nuria finds it almost funny. They had genuinely believed their child was being possessed. Luckily for Nuria, the academy managed to get their hands on her before her parents could do anything drastic. Hinan Academy became a sanctuary of sorts to her. At first, she was in denial of what had occurred, but the faculty was patient in explaining to her that she wasn't going to hell for what had happened. Their guidance helped her except what she was, she wasn't meant to be ashamed of her new found powers, they were here to help her manage them.
Even that sanctuary couldn't last forever. Nuria found happiness at Hinan, in time she stopped putting up a facade and let people in. She made great friends and for the first time in a long time, she let someone get close to her. Nuria would have been content if things had stayed that way, but trouble always seemed to find its way to Hinan. This time, however, it wasn't a childish prank or a tantrum that had everyone running for their lives. The person Nuria trusted the most was the one to destroy her happiness.
When she came face to face with him, she barely made it out alive. She couldn't exactly remember how it happened, she knew she should be dead, but she wasn't. The glimpses she caught while making her escape were something she'd never forget. Blood was all she could smell and see as she stepped over corpses of children. That's what they were; children. When it was all said and done, Nuria ran and didn't look back.
The images stayed with her for over a year as she moved from place to place. It wasn't safe to stay in one place for too long, she never knew what or who could be coming for her. If she had not happened upon a familiar voice one night, she wouldn't have come to Aurora. For all she knew, all of her friends where dead until Artemis' song found her. Nuria's immediately felt the tears falling down her cheeks the second she recognized her voice. She spent that night on a park bench, the song playing over and over again while she let her emotions pour out. In time, Nuria managed to track her friend down to Aurora. Artemis couldn't have been the only to get out alive and Nuria wasn't going to let anyone out of her sight once she found them. There was no way she'd go back to the loneliness and uncertainty that had plagued her for a whole year.
