Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Ty had only just moved here from Japan and it wasn't easy that was for sure. It was easy speaking english, after all he fully mastered english without much of an accent, so he is easy to understand. It was easy cause he is really smart. But anyway, it was taking a bit to get used to. So much different, he was honestly used to being in a huge house and all that at his grandfathers. It was bit hard for him at the moment.
When the bell finally rang for lunch, Ty decided to go explore for a little bit. Seeing what this school had to offer. He didn't get much of a chance to explore because he got here pretty late and all the getting used to didn't really allow him to explore the school as much as he wanted. Ty walked around for a bit exploring popping his head into rooms to see what was in them. Until he had enough, so he made his way to the cafeteria to buy a simple sandwich before making his way to the stairs.
He climbed the stairs to a door at the end. He opened the door and felt the nice cool air that spring had to offer. He found a spot away from most people. He sat down against the fence and started to eat. He held out his hand as he summoned a knife then made it disappear. He kept doing this for a little bit as he ate. After finishing his lunch he just sat there looking at everyone else or just simply staring up into the sky. He didn't know anyone and really no one talked to him when he got here. Not that he cared, he didn't mind being alone. After all it was nice and quiet with out any one disturbing him while he just sat there listing to music through his headphones.

Emery was having a good day.
It had started off rough, what with her alarm refusing to go off again. Luckily for her, she woke up on time and managed to rush around her dorm to get ready, leaving at her usual time to head to class. Each of her courses was mostly studying and doing work in class, meaning she already finished all her schoolwork for the day so far and had no homework for the evening. This left her in a pleasant mood. It was a nice feeling of accomplishment when one finishes their work before it’s due – at least, for Emery it was.
Now, as the lunch bell rang in her class, she grabbed her bookbag and slung it over her shoulder casually before heading toward the cafeteria. Her stomach growled as her steps echoed through the hall, and she realized at that moment just how hungry she was. She’d been so focused on schoolwork for the past few hours that she hadn’t had time to listen to her bodily functions, specifically her stomach. Rubbing it at the thought, Emery walked a touch faster and sped her way through the busy student crowds.
As usual, the lines were long and the food was a wide variety of various assortments. Emery stared in though. What did she want today?
Ultimately deciding on the healthy choice of a salad and bottled water, she waited patiently in line till it was her turn to be served, choosing her toppings carefully before grabbing the tray and heading out of the cafeteria. Turning down a few different hallways, Emery found herself standing at the bottom of a flight of stairs leading up to the rooftop: her favorite lunch spot. It was much less crowded than the cafeteria, and the breeze from the roof was often peaceful when the weather was nice.
Climbing up the stairs, skipping a few steps along her way, Emery eventually reached the top and pushed the rooftop door open with her back, still clutching her tray in her hands. As she thought, it wasn’t very crowded. There seemed to be a group of people hanging out along one wall, chatting amongst themselves with pleasant expressions on their faces. She walked past the group and further on the roof, glancing around before spotting a bench with a single boy sitting on it, a lonely expression sketched across his features. She frowned. Emery hadn’t seen him up here before, and decided to take it upon herself to make sure he wasn’t lonely. She knew it wasn’t her responsibility, and if she was a bother she would leave, but she couldn’t just stand idly by. It simply wasn’t her way.
Walking over toward the boy, Emery put a small smile on her face and stopped in front of the bench, looking down at him thoughtfully. “Is this seat taken?” she asked politely, pointing to the spot beside him on the bench.

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Ty was just staring off into space when he heard the door open to the stairwell. He glanced over and saw a pretty cute girl. Red hair blowing in the slight wind that started to pick up. He glanced back at the nothing he was before. Not like he would even have a shot a such a girl. Ty is lazy and wastes his time doing nothing but watch anime, read manga, and practice Kendo. Not like a girl would be interested in such a pathetic guy. He chuckled to himself as he just leaned back looked at the expanses of the sky.
But as he heard a voice in front of him he looked down to see that exact same red head that was really cute. She asked if that seat was taken. He was just kinda surprised. He never really thought he would have even talked to her. Let alone her come up to him. He cleared his throat and shook his head. "Nah this seat is free for the taking" he said in a lazy tone as he looked up at her. Ty moved over just a bit to make a little more room for the cute read head to sit down.
When she sat down, he glanced at her. Ty has never seen anyone's eyes look as majestic as hers. They were a beautiful shade of red and brown, in other words garnet. He has seen red eyes and all that but. Like hers were just gentle and soft instead of the harsh reds he has seen. She had a pretty smile to he had to admit to himself. But he was just naming good qualities about her that he would probably never have because like he thought before. He was probably would never get a girl like her.
There was that awkward silence between them of course because they didn't know each other. So Ty decided to speak. "Sorry if I am quiet. It's only my third day since transferring in." he said to her with a small smile at the edge of his mouth. Ty was fine with talking and all that. It was just the fact he was somewhere he has never been. So it was hard in a way.
"I'm Kan-" he stopped himself before he went on with introduction. He really needed to stop introducing himself with his surname first, than his actual first name last. "I'm Ty, just Ty." he chuckled to himself a bit nervously. Ty was never that great with woman, he was fine with his sisters all that, so he was also a bit nervous which never helped.
"I just moved here from Japan so im stuck in the whole introducing myself with my surname." he kept on going. While on the inside he was just saying shut up and stop talking. But hey that was Ty, he rambled when he was around pretty girls.

“Nah this seat is free for the taking,” he replied.
“Thank you.” Emery carefully set her bookbag down beside her feet and sat down on the bench, keeping her food tray in her lap. Her stomach growled again, and she felt her face heat up in embarrassment. Time to eat. Taking a forkful of her salad, she took a few bites and enjoyed the silence between the two. He didn’t seem like he wanted to talk, which was fine – she wouldn’t push it. Instead, she’d focus on eating her lunch, most of which was easily consumed within minutes. She hadn’t realized just how hungry she was.
Letting out a soft sigh signaling she was full, Emery took a sip of her water just as his voice spoke up, apologizing for being quiet. She put her drink down and shook her head. “No, that’s okay. I just had to finish my food,” she responded, turning to face him. Getting a better look at the boy, she noted his brunette hair and soft brown eyes, grateful that he was easy to look at. His appearance told her he was of Eastern origin, but she could be wrong. It certainly wasn’t her place to ask a stranger something like that.
When he mentioned his recent transfer, Emery’s eyes widened. “How do you like it here? I’ve only been here a month, so I’m fairly new as well. It’s my first year at Aurora Academy despite being a second year, so I’m at a bit of a disadvantage. I don’t know many people.” Way to tell your life story, Emery. She shook her head, realizing she’d probably been talking too much. She doubted he was interested in her tale, but she figured it was something they had in common.
He began introducing himself before fumbling over his words, backtracking to say his name was Ty. She bit her lip to prevent herself from laughing – he was awfully cute. Ty proceeded to explain how he was from Japan, and it suddenly made sense to Emery that he was trying to introduce his surname first. While she had never personally been to the country, she knew a bit about their culture from her coursework. “Japan’s pretty far. Do you miss it?” Thinking to herself a bit more, she decided to add in her introduction. “My name is Emery, by the way. Emery Elwood.” She held out her hand between the two for him to shake as a friendly gesture.

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Ty looked at her she seemed pretty excited that someone new was also here. As she went on to tell him she has only been here a month and she doesn't know that many people. And that she was second year. He just kinda chuckled to himself. She was kinda funny with that little burst of excitement. Either way Ty thought it was kinda nice that the first person he really talked to outside of class was also pretty new. It kinda broke the ice for both of them in a way. Which helped not only Ty but her, Ty thought.
He looked away from the girl for a bit as he tried to think of something to say he liked about the school. "Hmm" he paused as he looked back at the red head. "Well I do like the campus as a whole. It really pretty and easy to find everything. Even though inside the school can still be a bit of a challenge for me. But that is expected." he went on, one of Ty's weaknesses. Rambling when he was talking to a pretty girl. Sometimes it was good sometimes it was bad. He couldn't decide in this situation. "But either way I do enjoy the past couple days I've been here." he lastly said with a small smile to the new friend? Who knows Ty could become friends with her.
"As for Japan, I miss Tokyo by far, but the other parts I don't mind missing. I miss some of my friends I guess. But I can always make more friends, better friends." he chuckled at the last part, "I don't know. I'm just glad I am able to explore the world by being here now. Seeing what other places have to offer instead of spending my whole life stuck in one place. yknow?" he laughed a little bit. He thought that statement was true, despite wanting a good living and all that later down the line. He did want to explore what the world had to offer. Instead of being confined to one continent.
When she introduced herself Ty smiled at her. "Emery huh. What a pretty name for such a pretty girl." he nervously chuckled as a slight blush came over his cheeks. He scratched the back of his neck, which he did sometimes when he was giving a cute girl a compliment. Ty doesn't have much experience with girls or any love life in general. So it was easy for him to get nervous and blush. It also didn't help his cause that sometimes he says things like that and ruins any chance because he just met them.

Emery, realizing she had been sitting awkwardly with an empty tray on her lap, decided to move the tray over on the empty bench beside the two. She really should be more aware of her surroundings. She had remote viewing, for god’s sake. Although, granted, she was still getting used to her abilities, even after years of knowing her abilities. Especially the pyrokinesis. She shuttered at the thought, remembering all the times she’d gotten in trouble with her mother over her friendly ball of fire she would summon as company in her closet.
Realizing that would be a friendly question, she turned to Ty and asked politely, “If you don’t mind me asking, what powers made you accepted to this academy? There’s so many I’ve learned about since being here, and I was just curious if I’ve heard of yours before.” It was a simple enough question she didn’t think she’d have to apologize for later on. It wasn’t intrusive, after all, considering the school they attended was built for special abilities.
Ty went on to talk about his experience so far at the school, and Emery silenced herself to listen intently. When he was done, she nodded in a matter-of-fact way. “Yeah, the school is rather large so it’s easy to get lost in. Most of the teachers are very welcoming, though. They’ve been a big help with my studies.” She tilted her head, thinking, before asking, “Are you doing okay with your classes here? If you ever need a tutor, I’m good at most of my subjects. Well, except math…I could use help there.” She laughed at her awkward ending, realizing she probably revealed too much about herself yet again. Ty just seemed easy enough to talk to.
When he went on to talk about Japan, she found herself nodding in agreement. “That’s an adventurous way to look at things,” she smiled. “And I’ve heard Tokyo is beautiful. Especially with the cherry blossoms.” She didn’t know much else about Tokyo other than the scenery, to be honest, so she found herself growing silent after awhile, not knowing what else to add.
After her introduction, her hand held out was awkwardly ignored. Emery carefully placed her hand back in her lap, assuming Ty either didn’t notice or was too nervous to shake her hand. That was okay. She didn’t want him to do something that bothered him. What she did do was blush profusely when he complimented her appearance. He thought she was pretty? Emery tried to contain her smile. That was the sweetest thing she’d heard all week. “T-thank you,” she replied nervously, tugging at a strand of her hair in embarrassment.
The wind suddenly picked up speed on the rooftop, and Emery shivered. The temperature seemed to drop a touch, causing her to develop some goosebumps on her bare arms. Thankfully she had knee-high socks to cover her legs. Another gust of wind blew through their area, and she rubbed her arms to bring more heat to her skin. “This wind came out of nowhere,” she huffed, feeling her face get hit with another cool breeze. It ruffled through her ponytails and forced her to fix her bangs, hoping her hair wasn’t out of place in front of Ty.

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Ty looked at her when she asked about his power and the fact that she has seen and learned about so many. He chuckled a bit. He did enjoy her enthusiasm. It was a pretty nice change from his grandfather always forcing him to do things or practice. Or just the whole bickering back and forth. He held up his hand "Sure." he said before some blue light appeared around a small knife. When the blue light faded. He looked over at Emery as he twirled the knife between his fingers. "I can summon things. Well I've only really figured out to summon small things like forks, pencils, swords, knifes, stuff that doesn't have much wight. And I guess there a lot of people that have this ability. But I wanted a cool name for mine. So I dubbed it Void Armory. Cause I really only summon knifes and swords." he chuckled to himself thinking how lame it is that he only summons blades. But he really has no use for anything else.
When she started to talk about school and how big it is he just nodded. It was bigger than his middle school which was half the size. He would come to eventually find his way around so it was no big deal. When she mentioned helping tutor him he just kinda broke out in laughter. It was hard not to for him. He was ranked in the top 20 in the whole country of Japan in every subject. "No I don't need help. I get straight A's in every subject. So maybe if you need help in math I can help." he chuckled, then calmed down from his laughter. He did hate being smart sometimes because he always saw the idiots have more fun than him. He wasn't jelly at all. It just seemed that way.
"Yea the cheery blossoms are amazing. Maybe one day you could see them. It is a sight to see them falling." he mentioned with a smile. It was hard not to say they were amazing. Ty would always stop practicing for Kendo when ever he could to go to the park and just lay on the grass and watch the pedals fall from the trees. But then be smacked to get back to the dojo and practice. It was a pain having a grandfather as his real parent because he was old fashion and really tough. But it helped Ty become better and even win more than 90% of the Kendo tournaments he was in.
The wind picked up a bit as Ty's medium length hair was blowing all over the place. He closed his eyes to shield them, when the wind died down just a bit he opened his eyes and looked at Emery whom was rubbing her arms to get warm. When she said the wind came out of nowhere he nodded. He stood up and took off his jacket. "The wind is always unpredictable." he paused as he flung the jacket around Emery's upper body to protect it from the wind as it just picked up again. "It can be a gentle breeze but then turn into a destructive force. But it seems today it just wants to make you cold." he chuckled as he had just put his jacket around her just in time as another gust blew through.

Emery watched in amazement as a blue light appeared in Ty’s hand as he agreed to show her his ability, only to widen her eyes in surprise at the knife appearing moments later. Weapons made her nervous, as they had the potential to lead to conflict – one of her greatest fears. It was all her mother’s fault for instilling a fear of conflict into her brain. If she hadn’t grown up afraid to make mistakes, she might be a normal high school girl instead of constantly walking around on eggshells.
“I’ve seen similar teleportation abilities,” she admitted, keeping her eyes on the sharp blade. “I didn’t realize there were limitations to the ability. Erm, if you don’t mind me asking, why would you summon knives and swords? Do you fight people with them?” Emery looked uncomfortable, hoping he wasn’t a violent person. Ty certainly didn’t seem like the type, but looks could be deceiving.
After she offered to help him in any classes he might have troubles with, Emery was surprised when Ty broke out into a fit of laughter. Did she not look very smart or something? She didn’t think it was that strange of an offer. Things fell into place, however, when he explained he made straight A’s, and she let out a sigh of relief. At least he wasn’t making fun of her. “That would be helpful. I also make good grades, but math is just the one class I often struggle with.” She felt herself blush at the omission.
Ty then suggested she take a trip sometime to Japan to see the cherry blossoms. She smiled thoughtfully. “I should. I’m sure it’s beautiful there. And Japan has so much culture, I’m sure it’s very different than it is here.” It might be so different that it would be a culture shock, but Emery was always willing to try something new. She did have an adventurous side, as small as it might be. Maybe someday she would take his advice and visit the country. She made a mental note to put it on her bucket list of places to go during her lifetime.
Suddenly as the wind picked up, she watched as Ty stood up and took off his jacket. Startled, she felt a sudden warmth as he placed the material around her shoulders, commenting on the wind as he did so. Her cheeks flared up, and she was sure her face was a light shade of pink by this point. “Are you sure this is okay?” she asked, placing her arms through the jacket sleeves to warm herself up. The jacket was slightly big on her, but she didn’t seem to mind. “Won’t you get cold without your jacket?”

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Ty looked at her and saw her uncomfortable face along with a small squirm. It had seemed she wasn't too happy with the fact he used knifes and swords. Well most people would have the same reaction. After all they are dangerous weapons that could kill or injure someone. As blue light surrounded the object and it vanished. But then blue light surrounded his hands again and a kendo bamboo sword took its place. As the blue light faded from the bamboo stick he looked at her. "I practice Kendo. So I use this to fight with at tournaments and all that." he said to her with a smile to settle her nerves down as it was plastered across her face that she was pretty uncomfortable with the knife around. "But I do practice with actual katanas incase something were to happen to me and I need to use force or something." he added. And to threaten anyone that gets close to his sisters. After all he has to protect them at all costs... Some blue surrounded the Kendo sword as it disappeared.
Ty looked at her, she did seem like the smart student president type from back home. Two pony tails, and that stern look she had when she got to the roof. But he was wrong, she was pretty kind and just smart he guessed. Good thing, he was tired of those types arguing about skipping class back in Japan because Ty already knew the subject matters and decided to skip some classes. Even though he still got A's in the class. "Well if you ever want help. You can always ask me. I do nothing after Kendo practice so you should just text me. Or we can hang out in my room and help each other with home work." he smiled at her. It would be nice to have something in that giant ass room of his on the top floor. It felt so empty all the time because no one was there to hang out.
When she said if it was okay Ty just nodded. As he sat back down next to her. It wasn't that cold for Ty. Plus he hated wearing a uniform. He was used to it of course because through elementary school he had to wear one. But he was kinda hoping that when he came here to a different country. He wouldn't have wear one. He waved her off with his hand. "I'll be fine." he chuckled. "I don't get cold easily." he added as he rolled up his sleeves to show her that he wouldn't get cold.
When he did she could probably see his defined arms that were pretty much just muscle. He was by no means jacked. But his arms were defined. But they also had bruises scattered across each arm. The bluish purple pigmentation of his skin where the bruises lay. If he had to count them, he would probably have more than seven on each arm. But that is what happens when you do Kendo. You get hit really hard. And most of the time. Ty choices to not wear any protective armor because he doesn't mind the pain because his grandfather trained him not to fear pain when he was a kid.

Emery watched as the knife disappeared from his hand and she let out a sigh of relief. The weapon had been making her nervous, truth be told. Suddenly a new object appeared in Ty’s hand: a bamboo sword. She stared at the object in wonder; she’d never seen this type of a sword before. Emery supposed it was a Japanese-styled weapon, and when Ty mentioned he practiced with it in kendo she instantly recognized the term as a sport.
She used to look at sports as only a means for violence, but recently a certain blonde-haired girl had taught her otherwise at the archery range. She now understood there were lessons to learn in sports. “Kendo must be tough,” she finally answered, staring at the bamboo thoughtfully. “To be honest, sports and violence make me nervous. I don’t like conflict,” she admitted. “But I understand learning it for self-defense. That’s smart. Maybe you could teach me some moves.”
Emery was surprised with her suggestion. It just rolled off her tongue so naturally. This was the first time she had ever considered learning about a sport – well, second time if she counted archery.
She nodded at his suggestion to hang out for math schoolwork. “That would be helpful. I might take you up on that offer,” Emery replied, giving a faint smile. Ty was acting exceedingly helpful. She was honestly surprised he was eating lunch by himself when she first came out on to the rooftop. He seemed like the easygoing type that would have several friends surrounding him, not the loner type. Just one more thing about him that surprised her, she supposed.
He nodded to her question if he would be okay without his jacket and she smiled knowingly, tucking herself further into the warm material. It was a really nice gesture for him to share his jacket with her. She was impressed.
Suddenly, her eyes fell on his exposed arms and – aside from lightly blushing at his slight muscles – let out a gasp at the sight of his bruises. She reached her hand out to touch one but quickly realized that would be rude, instantly putting her hand back in her lap and frowning in his direction. “Are those from kendo?” she asked, pointing to the bruises on his arms. “You should be more careful. Do you need some ice or anything? Want me to take you to the infirmary?” She was genuinely concerned for his well-being, realizing in the back of her mind she might be coming across as overbearing.

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Ty sat back in the bench and looked up at the sky. "It can be. But I've been doing Kendo for since I was 6. I lived with grandfather since I was 6, and he kinda forced me into the sport. Which I am happy about. But I'm used to how tough it is." he chuckled about it. It was hard, especially when he was forced not to wear any gear to protect himself so he get over the fear of being hit. But that was his grandfather for you. Old fashioned in every sense. Get over a fear by experiencing it. It didn't help his grandfather would smack him every time his stance was just a centimeter off either.
"But yes I will teach you some moves to kick some ass. After all such a pretty girl knowing some moves to scare off anyone would be pretty badass." he laughed to himself making light of the more serious tone she had. It was just how Ty was, he took things seriously but he always had a light hearted response to make things less awkward and more fun. Plus it was his job to make things fun. That is where his light heartedness comes from too.
He smiled at her when she said she just might take him up on the offer of his help in math. "Well if you want to meet up somewhere after school or tomorrow. We can. Or I could just sneak you into my room. And maybe treat you to dinner. I'm a mean cook?" the way he ended his sentence was definitely a question. He wanted to hang out with her more after today. Ty knew that, and he did want to thank her for really being his first friend here. He just kinda chuckled to himself at how lame it was that he wanted to that. But it would give them more time to hang out and talk and get to know each other. Plus he found Emery really cute and wanted to get know her on a deeper level...
After rolling up his sleeves he glanced at Emery whom seemed to be staring at his arms when she suddenly seemed to freak out about something. Ah it was his many bruises from kendo. He laughed a little bit at her reaction. It was cute that she worried about someone she just met. He lifted up his arms to show her all of them as he twisted each arm around to show all the bruises. "Yup they are from Kendo" he said as he paused. The way she worried about those bruises, it wouldn't be too smart to tell her he sometimes practices without any protection other than a helmet. "But they don't hurt. I'm used to it. Plus sometimes being hit hard makes me feel a bit more alive. It's hard to explain." he chuckled as he scratched the back of his neck.
"It just makes me feel like I have something to protect, my body. And when I get hurt. Every time I think how great it is to be alive. It gives me a sense of sight per say." he said as he thought about it. It probably made so sense the way he explained it. But the pain of being his hard with kendo stick just for some reason got him excited to practice more and improve... It was hard to explain, but by no means was he a masochistic. The pain just made him see clearly that our bodies shouldn't be a thing to take lightly is all.

Emery listened to Ty go on about the toughness of kendo. She wasn’t too surprised about that. After all, she assumed most sports required discipline. She was shocked, however, to hear he’d been working at it since he was six. “Wow,” she exclaimed. “When I was six, I was just starting school. The only thing I had to worry about was learning my ABC’s,” she joked, laughing. “I can’t believe you were already learning kendo so young. I didn’t realize they even started that young!”
There he went again, calling her pretty. She felt her cheeks blush as she smiled in return. It was nice to receive compliments. She wasn’t used to so much praise – when she was younger, her mother would only focus on her faults and telling her how to improve herself. A change was nice. “I don’t know if I’d ever be able to properly defend myself,” she admitted, “but it would certainly be fun to learn. Just go easy on me!”
She heard herself laughing and realized it had been so long since she’d had a normal conversation like this. Normally she’s too focused on how to please the person she’s conversing with to enjoy herself, but with Ty it was easy. He was laidback and relaxed, and didn’t seem care too much about anything. That was good. It meant he probably wouldn’t be offended by anything she says – something she was constantly worried about when talking with others.
He proceeded to tell her about his bruises, confirming they were, in fact, from kendo. She frowned, listening to his words as he carried on about kendo while she stared at the bruises, formulating ways in her head to take him to the nurse’s office if she needed to. “So kendo gives you a sense of purpose,” she replied, nodding her head. She supposed that made sense, especially if he’d trained for so long.
Emery blushed harder when he suggested sneaking her into his room. Was he asking her out? Two teenagers alone in a dorm room suggested it was a date. Did she want to accept that? Emery found herself compelled to say yes, her gut instinct wanting to learn more about Ty and his life. He was an interesting person to talk to, and if she could get a free meal out of it all the better. Deciding to nod her head, she smiled his way. “I’d like that. Let’s meet up tomorrow after school and you can take me to your dorm. Maybe you can teach me how to cook, too.”
