[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]The kitten room. For the next week, Callum had been told to guard it with his life. Constantly tormented by mewling of cats, and the sharp claws they so graciously stabbed into his feet, Callum was less than pleased with his kingdom.
As some students were nearing exam period and stress levels rose, Callum had suggested offering them a place to relax, a stress-free environment where they could gather themselves and maybe calm their frayed nerves. A room full of couches and cuddly kittens hadn't been his idea of a stress-free environment, but nonetheless, it had been labeled as 'his' project, and he was in charge of maintaining order.
Sinking into the soft cushions Callum draped a blanket over his legs, watching the litter of kittens bounce across the floor. Carefree, they would often run smack into the walls, bouncing off to run amuck somewhere else as though they were immune to the solid surface. Good grief. He'd been in the kitten room for over three hours and would have done almost anything to get out. Students came by in groups no bigger than four, and they always left in a better mood than when they arrived.
Running a hand through his hair, Callum started as a pair of razor sharp daggers grabbed his foot. If it weren't for the clearly marked 'please leave your shoes at the door' sign, he would've booted the cat clear across the room. They didn't seem to mind running into the walls, how much worse could his shoe be?
Gritting his teeth the T.A reached over, grabbing the animal by the scruff and dropping it into his lap. For a second it appeared the black tabby would settle, and a second was all it took for Callum to gather his hopes. But oh no, the thing would take a flying tackle right at his face, sliding off and clinging for dear life onto the strings of his hoodie instead.
Smothering the creature with a blanket, Callum shot the clock a frantic look. Dear God, someone please save me.

"This is hardy fair." Scoffing in a under tone whisper Vala's trudging feet across the floor clearly displayed her current temperament.
"I never knew a person could be punished for over achieving." Wandering through the empty corridors she continued to mutter quietly to herself.
Generally one not one to allow her moods to sway her so she couldn't help, but feel somewhat betrayed at the moment. First arriving at the academy Vala had taken to having little to no social life. Fixating herself in books, training, and class work she hardly did anything else outside of eating, and sleeping. Her world focused on her academics, and she sought nothing else from it. After all, she had come to the academy to truly harness her abilities; not to make friends. It seems, however her "elders", or the staff in this case thought otherwise. Apparently part the process was "socializing with others", and "learning to deal with others who have abilities". As far as Vala was concerned it was all a load of crap. It had been noticed that while she excelled in class work, and studying she had yet to make much progress in the social aspects of her life. "Allowing for time to relax allows for the body, and mind to refresh themselves. While sleep is important to this process it can only bring so much joy." Again... more crap though Vala was in little position to argue the point. While it might have been easy enough to cast her hypnotic voice upon the staff she wasn't exactly sure how well that might have worked. When it became clear that Vala held no love for socialization with others it was decided she would make a mandatory trip to the "Kitten Room".
"This is such bull...." Again she muttered under her breath.
Vala held no distaste for cats, it couldn't be said that she was very fond of them either. Growing up her family had never owned any animals, unless you counted her younger siblings who acted much like wild beasts. Never having any long term contact with the furry creatures she never developed much affinity towards animals. They were just another part of life. What really bothered her at the moment was that she was forced into doing this for her "well being". As if others could decide what was in her best interests. She was Queen of her own realm... but it looked as though another had invaded her lands. In the end she had decided a quick trip wouldn't hurt much. A few minutes there, and then she could returned to her studies. After all, they never stated how long she must be in the Kitten Room for.
Arriving at the room labeled "Kitten Room" she eyed the colorful letters, and cartoonish drawings of kittens with some disgust.
"Ugh... do they believe us to be children?" Shaking her head side to side she lifted her hand and knocked on the door three times, and waited for a moment.
"Excuse me, may I enter?" She voiced out loud to any ears who might be listening.

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]A knock on the door would be a life saver to Callum. For once, the kittens would have someone else to harrass. "Come in," he spoke all took quickly, removing the blanket from the kitten to find it mostly alive. The steady rise and fall of it's ribs were an unfortunate sign of life, and raspy breaths indicated it may just be sleeping.
"Get off me." Callum poked the kittens nose with a finger until it stirred. That's when the mewling started, all the kittens at once crying, begging for attention and a warm body. And of course, they only seemed interested in begging from him, the one who'd been there for the last eight hours. It was as though somehow he'd become their mom, something the young man was not pleased about.
"Make sure you take off your shoes." Callum called, getting to his feet to answer the door. "Or you'll wish you had," he muttered. The threat had nothing to do with him, but the little cats who were too eager to use their razor claws on anything that moved.
Opening the door, Callum eyed the student up and down. "Did you come alone?" Normally students came in groups with their friends....and normally they didn't come during class hours. "You're not skipping class are you?" Callum stooped quickly to grab one of the kittens who had attempted to break free from the kitten room.
Tucking it into the pocket of his hoody, he edged away from the door to let the student in. Hell, even if she was skipping class, at least the cats would have someone else to bother instead of him.

Waiting at the door patiently Vala half hoped that room would empty aside from the furry bodies that undoubtfully swarmed the floor like waves. She could have lied to the staff allowing her to return to her studies. Just as the thought popped in her head it vanished with the soft scuffling noise that protruded through the thin door. There was a series of high pitched mewing along with the voice of a man. The soft whimpers of the fluffballs was enough to set Vala on edge. If these kittens were anything like young children; loud, annoying, and always seeking attention, she imagined how terrible this was truly going to be.
"My shoes?" Vala mirrored the man's words with her gaze turning towards her shoes. Made from soft leather, dyed black, and with little red ribbons they were certainly far from one might call cheap. At the warning tone in the man's voice Vala understood that her high end footwear might not stand a round with little devils. She could have easily afforded a new pair, but she didn't much like the idea of having to break in another pair. Shrugging with discontent she did as the voice commanded. Having no experience with what was about to happen she didn't wish to take chances. As she bent over to unlace her shoes the door swung back to reveal the face that had been hidden from sight up till this point.
"Hello." She said gently before going back to work on her laces.
Eyes cast downwards Vala nodded her head towards the man's question.
"Unless someone is invisible at my side, then yes, I came alone." Huffing softly she cocked her head to one side as if to see if another person was in the hallway.
"Against my wishes, and better judgement I find myself here." Removing her feet from their leather prisons Vala placed them off to one side before coming to stand once more.
"Wouldn't dream of it." Vala responded to his question as she gave a half hearted chuckle.
"Apparently it was thought some time spent here would "help". Her voice held sarcasm in it as she side stepped the man to enter the room.
Standing in the colorful room her eyes were first drawn onto the dozen of furry faces which were now locked on her person. Vala withdrew a pace with some unease with all eyes upon her. It was as if she was a piece of meat, and they all wished to dine upon her supple flesh.
"Er... I knew this was a bad idea." Sighing Vala turned towards the man.
"For someone whose been locked in a room full of kittens you don't look very cheerful." She pointed out allowing for the question to be posed without speaking it.
"That is the purpose of this..." She waved her arm out in a arch towards the room.
"-this place, correct?"

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]For someone receiving top class education, you don't seem very grateful. A strained smile was the only hint that the Teacher's Aid was thinking something a little less docile than what he said. "Well, they can be a handful after a while, and I'm not exactly a cat person." He didn't mind the critters, though he preferred them full grown, at least they had enough sense then not to try and tackle the world. Or the walls, he added as a thump sounded from across the room.
"But they're great if you're looking for a place to unwind." Another forced smile was the best Callum could do as he ushered the girl in. "Oh, I'm Callum by the way. I don't think we've met." The man made a point of recognizing all the bratty students he came across. He also made a point, almost as often to knock them off their high-horses when necessary.
This top-notch rich kid was just the sort he dreaded, but the man did away with his annoyance as all the furry attention in the room settled on the newcomer. He wasn't here to antagonize her or set her straight. His job was to look after the kittens. Besides, he highly doubted a conflict with yet another female student would go over too well with the dean.
