POWER DESCRIPTIONS
FIELD OF HUMANITY
Rox's fancy way of saying Power Negation, her power negates the existence of foreign abilities within a five foot radius of her. At her current level, she cannot turn this off or on at will, but she can spread it out to a twenty foot radius for a few minutes with a lot of effort. However, when she does this, her other power is unusable. Rox's Field of Humanity is a blanket effect that does not discriminate between friend or foe, causing issues when tag teaming with powered individuals. Furthermore, abilities that require a “connection” of some sort to her, whether mentally or physically dont seem to work. Her Field of Humanity seems to turn off once she's knocked unconscious.
MADNESS OF SCIENCE
Rox's main wheel house is essentially Technopathy. She seems to be able to scan technology to gain a deeper understanding of it with her mind in order to control it and to know how to do so. Her manipulation of technology allows for her to sense and read wavelengths sent from one piece of technology to another to assist with controlling it. Currently, much like Field of Humanity, Rox cannot turn this ability off and is constantly aware of technology being used in her general area. As such, going into cities where everyone is on their cellphone is very taxing to the girl. She has become somewhat of a recluse thanks to this ability.
Aside from radio technology, Rox can also use her technopathy to pull things together and apart- with smaller things moving much more rapidly than larger things. This can be used to build machines in live time or dissect things. Furthermore, she can do the same to coding to hack or build new codes. However, it should be noted that when she uses this aspect of her ability, she becomes ignorant of all radio waves in the air due to shifting the focus of her ability to something else.
APPEARANCE
Rox is a rather short Hispanic girl who stands at just under five feet. Her long orange hair hangs below her waist, and her bangs are trimmed to hang just above her eyes. The girl's hair is silky and thin. Her light brown eyes can usually be seen behind large glasses. Rox's frame is generally thin and very obviously one that often stays indoors rather than bothering with the outside world. Her style of dress tends to be very casual and thrifty.
PERSONALITY
At first glance Rox comes across as a very quiet girl. One could almost mistake her for a wallflower. The girl's small demure appearance mixed with the thoughtful glances she usually gives others are very misleading. Rox isnt some polite little girl who suffers from a touch of shyness. The blushing of her cheeks is not out of embarrassment. It is out of rage at the fucking idiots around her.
Rox has a superiority complex. She's always viewed herself as one of the smartest people around. Other people generally bother her with their idiocies. She keeps quiet because, from her experience, it isnt worth it arguing with idiots. Generally, Rox will just do what she wants without consulting others. Her opinion of most other people is rather low. Still, her quiet nature and thoughtful words often hide this nasty nature of hers from others.
To boost her own ego, Rox has always had the smarts to back up her viewpoint. She's always been at the top of her class, and she's won several robotics competitions- even entering a few in elementary school at high school and college levels. Rox has universities from around the world lined up to offer her free rides, and the girl is very aware of this. The awakening of her powers in middle school have only furthered her smug nature.
As nasty as her inner personality can be, Rox generally does care about others. She doesnt like seeing people get hurt. In her mind, those of greater ability have a responsibility to take care of those too stupid for their own good. Furthermore, she has a higher opinion of those who show a drive to improve themselves. If someone knows they have faults and actively seek to fix them, Rox will do her best to assist them.
However, despite this small portion of kindness, Rox is not against lethal force against others. The girl can be very cold and robotic when pushed to her limits. Her calculative nature and ruthless methods make her a formidable foe to most. Furthermore, her lack of conscious when it comes to harming others or using cheap tricks gives her an edge.
BIOGRAPHY
Rox was born to a rather large family on the Mexican border in New Mexico. The girl was the middle child of seven children. Her life growing up was fairly average for the region. The family made enough to just barely get by but still struggled occasionally. Her parents often pushed school activities, whether athletic or academic among the kids to help with future scholarships. Plus, they would get food at after school activities provided to them- something that wasn't always available at home.
While most of Rox's brothers and sisters excelled at sports, she found herself doing best in academic programs. Whether it was debate, problem solving, competitive mathematics or even the new robotics club at her school, the girl was talented. She seemed to excel at putting things together- making everything fit in ways adults hadnt shown her. Rox was so talented at this that her teachers entered her in various higher level tournaments when she was still in elementary school.
Of course, traveling to these tournaments cost money. Out of desperation, Rox's parents did whatever they could to make it so she could travel. While they did the same for her siblings and their sports tournaments, Rox never really paid attention to them. She was too busy studying and building things. Rox's future looked bright, and she was having so much fun getting there! This went on until middle school. Her life was rather perfect- at least from her point of view. She was even being offered a free ride to a boarding school in a big city up north!
That's why, when she arrived home to the front door open and a strange van in her driveway, the girl hadn't thought anything was wrong. However, when she got into the kitchen, everything went black. Someone hit her from the back of her head. When she woke up, Rox could see most of her family tied up together. Then her oldest brother came home. The man tried to knock him out, but he was able to deflect the blow. Her oldest brother was up for several martial arts and sports scholarships. Despite being outnumbered, he managed to fight most of them- determined to protect the others. He even managed to down them enough to untie Rox and get her to begin untying the others while he fought.
What happened next is still a blur in the girl's memories. A gun was pulled, her brother was shouting for her to get down. Her mother managed to undo her restraints enough to grab Rox and pull her into an embrace to shield her from the gunfire. The girl wound up laying still under the corpse of her mother. The men began to shoot more- determined to get the job done with the rest of her family. They started with her father. Her older brother tried to protect him, but the gunshot echoed out before he could reach the old man.
That's when the lights in the house began to flicker. Then, everything shook. The television rattled and all the kitchen appliances trembled. Without any further warning, wires and bolts ripped out from the machines. They whirled around in a tornado as Rox leaned up. Her eyes were locked on the corpse that laid across her lap- her mother's corpse. The girl's mind went blank. In all the chaos, the electric wires and pieces of machine whipped apart and ripped into the assailants. However, that wasn't all that happened.
In a panic, her brother tried to shake Rox out of her trance. What finally did shake her out of it was the blood splattering across her face as one of the wires ripped through her brothers stomach. Before passing out, all Rox could see was the bloody hole in her brother's stomach and the look of fear in his eyes.
When she woke up, Rox was in a hospital. The eleven year old girl was one of the few survivors from the incident. She sat there for days, staring blankly into the air around her. However, it wasnt just the air. She could see things better- or rather the machines better. It was if every groove and piece of information running through them was visible to her. Occasionally, the girl would scream out in panic at the memories of the day, but for the most part, she kept herself distracted with these odd powers. Rox couldnt bring herself to sleep for the weeks or so after the incident. The girl quietly sat in the hospital, self loathing swirling inside her.
Through her power, she overheard phone calls from the detectives investigating the case. It appeared her parents had borrowed money- a lot of money from the wrong people. When they couldnt pay it back, the family was targeted. It was suppose to only be enough to frighten them into paying- a warning, but her brother fighting back and the accidental shooting had made things worse. When she overheard this, memories of the gaping hole in her brother's stomach flooded Rox's mind. Naturally, she vomited in disgust.
Once she was well enough to leave the hospital, Rox found herself alone at a social worker's office. Of course. Where else would she go? Her parents were dead. Her brother was probably terrified of her now- she hadnt even gone to see him in the hospital out of fear. No one knew how the men had all died, but no one certainly believed a eleven year old girl did it. She was barely even going through puberty- how could she throw around all the house appliances like that? Only Rox seemed to know.
While the adults tried to decide what to do with her, the girl sat- quietly contemplating everything that had happened. During this time, two letters came for her. One was for the boarding school that had been offering her a free ride. The other was from a school she had never heard of. Aurora Academy. Having schools contacting her was never anything new. However, in her emotional distress, Rox didnt fully read the other invitation. Instead, she chose to go to the school that was more familiar- the one she had been speaking about for months.
So, with no home to go back to, Rox went to the big city to attend boarding school as a ward of the state. During her time there, the girl buried herself into school work and studying her odd abilities. Rox slowly unraveled what her powers could do during her second year and third year of middle school. The girl was always consumed with figuring out her abilities, and why she couldnt recreate everything from the day her powers activated. Her nights were spent testing herself while her days were spent being one of the brightest students at the school. She even got a second scholarship to attend the school's elevator high school.
During her first year at the high school, Rox was invited to attend a special robotics conference in Japan. While there, she noticed something odd. A classmate of hers was there. Rox watched him quietly before realizing it had been his father who extended the invitation to her. Rox was being scouted by the head engineer of an influential robotics company- who happened to be the father of some slacker from her class. Still, it interested her enough that Rox kept an eye on him once they returned to the school.
One day, she noticed him heading off the school grounds with some less... classy boys. Curious, Rox followed him. It was more out of boredom than anything, really. What she found was a gang of idiots trying to extort money from local businesses. Instead of turning them in, Rox demanding to be let in on it. After all, she had no parents and the school's allowance only allowed for so much. She wanted to purchase parts and machinery that the school had denied her. This seemed like a good way to make money.
So, Rox ended up joining a small gang with her fellow student, Kite. At first, she only quietly followed, intent on keeping an eye on the group. Aside from the money, Rox seemed intent on studying Kite. He was the son of a wealthy scientist, gifted with good looks and enough brains to get Bs without any proper studying. Why was he doing something so petty? She never really got her answer to that question. Instead, she got a few new questions.
During a gang summit of sorts, Rox watched a supposed civilized meeting descend into chaos as a fight broke out. She quietly managed to keep her distant during the fighting, defending herself with a lash of a wire when needed. However, then something unexpected happened. The boy who Rox was studying suddenly summoned forth lightning. It was violent. It was messy. It was deja vu.
When the smoke cleared, only Rox and him were left standing. Around her, a perfect circle laid in the charred dirt around her. The lightning hadnt been able to get anywhere near her. This was how Rox became aware of her second ability. After this, Rox followed closer to Kite, eyeing him as he evolved. When Aurora Academy came knocking once more, she went to follow her classmate. After all, this was fantastic.
Rox wasn't some freakish anomaly. She was one of many, and surely, the girl would be the best of them. After all, she was already the best of the normal folks. So why would this be any different?
