I’m Still Breathing, The green-eyed brunette nodded her head and begun to concentrate intently as she expanded her aura. The battle ranged before her and she was already exhausted from protecting everyone from the onslaught of magical attacks but she couldn’t stop now. She wasn’t going to let her friends or school down even if her body ached and she could barely stand.
‘That’s it, you got it Arte’
A familiar voice encouraged her as she watched teachers and students alike fall in behind her barrier, charging at the enemy in full force. All the while, magical attack after attack slammed against her wall, each time the attack was negated and the people she shielded left unscathed but each time it wore her down. She could feel the pull of the energies as her aura wanted to return to her exhausted body. ‘Not yet, I can’t. Please not yet.’ There was a loud crack and a massive onslaught of magic hit her barrier shattering it, forcing it back to her body with such force that it knocked her back.
That’s when the screaming started, that’s when she woke up.
Artemis slowly opened her eyes, it was like this every night. She’d dream about that battle, her friends, her brother, her parents – all of it tormenting her. In the beginning, she’d wake up screaming then eventually she’d just cry till finally, like now, she’d feel numb. Did she still hurt? Everyday. But the trembling had stopped and now she only wakes to a room filled with her expanded aura. In a way, it was soothing but still it was also troubling.
Rolling onto her back she looked up at the ceiling, transparent colours moved about her room as her aura had expanded to fill it. She gingerly lifted her hand to touch the colours, her fingers running through the energy of her aura creating swirls of blues and greens then violets and pinks.
Artemis dropped her hand and let out a deep breath. She had only been her a week now and already it felt like forever, it was like she was in auto pilot as soon as she walked through the doors. She hadn’t made any friends and no one had seemed to noticed her, if she was honest, she wasn’t sure she liked that no one did or if it bothered her. Drawing her aura back in she swung her legs over the side of the bed, her body slumped so that her elbows rested on her knees. Closing her eyes, she just sat there, everything was so silent and eerie that soon she found her feet and got up. Walking to the window of her first-floor dorm room she was grateful that she was near the fire escape. Reaching for her jacket she pulled her arms through the sleeves and let it hang over the shoulders. It still looked like a dress on her, her shorts and singlet completely hidden under its warmth. It still smelt like its previous owner and this relaxed her as she made her way out the window and onto the fire escape.
The cool night’s air hit her like a wave, it sent a chill over her bare legs but after climbing the stairwell she was warm enough. With the last few steps she found herself atop the dorm roof, it was a pretty sight. The moon was still high in the sky and she could make out the little stars if she faced away from the main school building. The lights there made it harder to see but she could still see their twinkle. “What am I going to do?” She sighed and let herself slump to the ground, parting her arms wide and falling onto her back. She was confused about a lot of things lately, she didn’t know if she made the right choice to finish school or if she should have just gone searching for her brother. A part of her wished that some of her friends made it here but the other part told her she was being selfish, it was hard to juggle the emotions that she felt lately so instead, she let them out.
Once more she expanded her aura only this time she wasn’t doing it in her sleep. She let the energy wash over her as blues, pinks, orange, purple, green, all danced around her form. If anyone saw her, they wouldn’t ‘see’ the colours unless they could see auras, but they would be able to feel tingles over their skin and have a feeling of silk passing over them every so often. It was actually rather relaxing once you got over the odd sensation…
Closing her eyes Artemis took a deep begun to sing a haunting tune, her voice carrying off into the wind as the words softly slipped from her lips.
“Somebody killed little Susie The girl with the tune, Who sings in the daytime at noon. She was there screaming, Beating her voice in her doom But nobody came to her soon”

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]As a student, Callum had often marveled at the responsibility carried by the staff and alumni at Aurora Academy. Since the very beginning Gifted students and people alike have always been threatened. In some cases the struggle is so subtle most people miss it, but after all that had happened in the last two years Callum knew very well there was never an end to the suffering of people like him. The TA had vague aspirations to see a day where gifted children and families could grow outside of havens like those created at Aurora, and live without the few of being hunted.
It was unlikely he would see the world change so much in his life time, but Callum was taking slow faithful steps in the direction of this new future. For now it was his job to watch over the youth at Aurora, most of them so blissfully aware of the slaughter that had taken place only a few years before. Swiping his staff ID, Callum passed from the male wing into the female dorms, nodding a warning to the few students he came across. At this hour, everyone was in bed, or should be in bed, but the alumni left any curfew related discipline to the R.A.
The only reason for his solemn patrol was to ensure the safety of the students, a job he took very seriously. Callum had long-since removed his contacts in favor of the bright multi-colored eyes he so frequently relied on. They were his first line of defense and given their unpleasant nature he often found they intimidated most students into compliance.
As he wandered through the halls, Callum made sure to keep his head about him. The faint giggles behind closed doors and the sweet smell of perfume were enough to cause him to speculate, but none of those seemed particularly pertinent to his current task and therefore made them irrelevant.
Trekking up the endless floors, Callum felt a twing of satisfaction. Everything appeared to be in order. There was the odd lippy student 'concerned' a male teacher shouldn't be wandering the girl's wing at night, but a smoldering stare had but and end to that argument before Callum opened his mouth. If the girl's didn't feel comfortable having him here, they could take it up with the headmaster and waste less of his time complaining over things he had no control.
When Callum reached the roof, he hadn't expected to find anyone there. Sure, the odd group of kids thought it would be fun or romantic even, but when the chill set in most of the students had enough sense to go indoors. Shouldering on his jacket, Callum closed the door behind him. He didn't give the stars or the moon a second thought because they had very little to do with why he was hear.
In fact the moment his ears caught wind of singing, he didn't give the stars or the cold a second thought. Moving soundlessly towards the voice, Callum came to a suddenly halt when he walked into what felt like a wall. The sensation wasn't that of something solid, but a definite shift in the atmosphere that made the man instantly wary.
The last ability he'd absorbed had nothing to do with seeing auras, and he wondered for a moment if he'd stumbled into some sort of telepathic field.
Dipping his hands into his pockets, the TA listened to the soft voice. That kind of song didn't sound like it was coming from someone who would give him trouble, so he interrupted her without much thought. "Shouldn't you be in bed? There's a curfew here, you know." With his presence announced, Callum took a few cautious steps forwards, his multi-colored gaze settling on the form with a rather bland expression. — @nike [newclass=".sf_body"]background-image:url('http://www.designbolts.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Golf-Shirt-Grey-Seamless-Pattern-For-Website-Background.jpg');width:400px;padding:20px;border-top:20px solid #404040;border-bottom:20px solid #404040;[/newclass] [newclass=".sf_text"]padding-right:5px;max-height:300px;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=".sf_text" b]color:#4f7aac;[/newclass]

I’m Still Breathing, “Neglection can kill Like a knife in your soul Oh it will Little Susie fought so hard to live She lie there so tenderly Fashioned so slenderly Lift her with care So young and so fair...”
The last of the song slipped from her cool tender lips as she felt the presence of another in her field. The ‘feel’ of them seemed familiar but not at the same time, like something darker had crept up near her. Was she afraid, no. After everything she had been through she had learnt more than ever that she was strong, that she could trust in her abilities and she would be ok. So, without hesitation, she slowly lifted her body so she was sitting, her back facing the man whose smooth voice played upon her ears so hauntingly.
Looking up at the moon she didn’t answer him straight away rather she took her time, allowing him to come closer to her. Around them the world seemed to be waking, no longer could she hear the echo of an owl off in the distant. Instead, it was replaced with the occasional song of a morning bird. It must have been about 4:30am by now, not really the best time for a teacher to be patrolling as some students tended to get up at 5am for morning clubs. Well, at least that is what she had noticed having only been here the week. “Consider me an early starter…” Her voice trailed off as she pushed herself up, her back still to the man. She wondered if the Artemis of old would have spoken that way to a teacher, or even if she would have come to the roof in her pjs and an over-sized jacket that once belonged to a boy she knew.
She let out a sigh, one thing she could tell about the man behind her was that he wasn’t quite as authoritative as he probably liked others to think. So, she took a stab and decided to say something completely different to what any normal student who got caught out would say. “It’s beautiful don’t you think? The sun will come up soon and the sky will shift from deep blue to a warm and soft pink hue.” Artemis’s gaze never left the tree tops around them, for she wanted to take this moment it and enjoy it. If teachers patrolled the dorms like this, then this was probably the last time she could come here when the nightmares ripped her from her painful sleep. So why not take it all in? name || @nike notes ||blast from the past tag || @callumblaine

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]The voice sounded oddly familiar, something like a distant memory he ought to remember. Offering the pale sky an indifferent look, Callum shrugged his shoulders. "If you want to get an early start, I suggest you do it elsewhere. Babysitting is such a burden." Despite the dreary sigh the young man gave, he didn't mind it as much as he seemed to say. In fact he was studying to become a babysitter...a paid babysitter, who also happened to give lectures, but still.
Thumbing the zipper on his jacket, Callum slowly advanced until he stood next to the student. "Students aren't permitted on the roof outside of school hours." There was really no need to explain why, although Callum couldn't fathom why students would ever be allowed up here. School roofs and rooftops in general seemed to be a recipe for disaster.
He cast the girl a side glance, about to offer a final warning when he really caught sight of her. The fairness of her features and the soft, thoughtful look was one that struck such a strong chord of emotion within him he almost forgot to breathe. "Artemis." The name came out like a flat, dull statement. It was meant to be an exclamation coupled with an open mouth stare and an expression akin to shock. But all she got was a cold, almost uncertain 'Artemis'.
"Go back inside." For a moment he was sure he made a mistake, namely because it couldn't really be her. Callum kept all thoughts of Artemis Nike locked deep down in a very special place in his heart. Though seldom visited, the TA wasn't sure to express what he felt as he gazed at the familiar face, or if he was able to feel anything at all.
Brushing his arm across his eyes, Callum glared at the student as though this were some form of trickery. It could be a form of mind tampering perhaps, maybe this kid was just trying to fuck with him. Already his right eye was glowing brighter than it had been before, the dull red leaped to a violent crimson color. It would of course attempt to absorb whatever ability was at play and hopefully end the spell that was too far fetched for his reality. — @nike [newclass=".sf_body"]background-image:url('http://www.designbolts.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Golf-Shirt-Grey-Seamless-Pattern-For-Website-Background.jpg');width:400px;padding:20px;border-top:20px solid #404040;border-bottom:20px solid #404040;[/newclass] [newclass=".sf_text"]padding-right:5px;max-height:300px;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=".sf_text" b]color:#4f7aac;[/newclass]

I’m Still Breathing, He ignored her comments, she wasn’t really surprised but she was rather put out with him being so close to her. Recently she had a problem with people being so close, she had started to really ‘feel’ others auras and this teacher’s aura was reminding her of someone that it was almost too cruel to think further on it. That was until she heard her name, so cooly spoken and then the sudden pull of energies as she felt him begin to use his ability. Teachers weren’t meant to do that; they weren’t meant to use their abilities on students, right? And this guy, this person, she could feel the slight shift in his aura, the anger hidden deep within him and also…remorse?
Artemis couldn’t help it, she turned to look up at him and what stood before her was not what she expected. It was like the universe couldn’t get enough of tormenting her! How cruel was this to have a man standing before her with the face of Callum Blaine! “Callum?” The words finally slipped from her mouth as she looked at him with her bright green eyes. They bore into him as she watched him try using his gift on her. “Callum, stop.” She looked away from him, it didn’t work, whatever he was trying it didn’t work.
She wouldn’t let the emotions out, she couldn’t. But she knew without a doubt that it was him. She should have before when he entered her field. His aura was distinct, warming, caring… all the things he had seemed to bury now. “Time has changed us hasn’t it?” She finally said looking away from him. Her eyes cast low to the ground. She didn’t know if she wanted to cry or to scream or to hug him or to do all of it. It was confusing. So many nights she had lay there thinking about him, if he was safe, hoping that he was alive and was happy. Now, here he was and she didn’t know what to feel. He had the power to find her, he could have, so why didn’t he?
Shaking her head she couldn’t stand there anymore, these negative and conflicting feelings, it was all just too much to bare. Slowly, she started to back away from him. Her eyes still averted only this time she was looking for an escape. “I…I’m sorry” was all she could muster before she was fleeing to the fire-escape, to her room, or was it away from her? She didn’t know, didn’t care but it couldn’t be on the rooftop with him, she couldn’t deal with the emotions that were coming forth any longer.

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]Why wasn't it working? A frown settled on his face, and Callum now found himself standing across from the only woman he'd ever dreamed about. Her words, though no colder than his own, hurt. Wasn't she happy to see him? Wasn't he happy to see her?
He was! He had dreamt of this moment despite his desire to burry her forever. But this wasn't how Callum had imagined their encounter. It had always been a happy reunion, maybe something with a sheepish smile and a desperate hug, not this cold exchange of emotions. It was like they were strangers again.
He flinched at the unexpected thought, the red eye slowly returning to its normal, dark hue. Callum couldn't bring himself to say anything at first. A thousand questions bubbling over in his mind. How did she get here? Why was she here?
As Artemis began to back away, her apology seemed to opened up old wounds for Callum. He knew he couldn't have Artemis and remain the person he was now. But the Callum she knew would never be strong enough to protect anyone other than himself.
What are you standing around for? Go after her King Blue Callum could picture his old friend all too clearly, standing their with a look of both disdain and annoyance etched into his perfect features. He wasn't sure when he had started to drag Dartz around in his mind, but somehow thinking of the other often coaxed him into doing the things Callum never felt brave enough to do before.
"Artemis, wait!" Callum suddenly sprang forwards, darting after her. Now that she was running, he couldn't even be sure she was real. Maybe this was all just a ploy of his own mind. Maybe after all these months he was still caught up in Artemis and Dartz, and she was also a figment of his imagination.
"Wait!" He repeated as his lengthy strides caught up to her. If he were to succeed he would wrap his arms around her waist, nearly pulling her off her feet as he drew her against his chest. One hand would travel up to her neck, but not to threaten her. Instead, a single finger would search for a real pulse, until his head would drop onto her shoulder, muffling his soft murmur. "You still smell like strawberries. "

I’m Still Breathing, Were there others? Had more gotten away from Hinan alive? She did want to scream; she did want to cry but right now all she could do was drag her feet away from him. It was all just too fast, there was no way she could have ever prepared herself for this or for the wounds to reopen and her body to want to crumble. Artemis couldn’t tell if it was the feeling of missing him that was crumbling her resolve of the waves of emotions held in for so long that was weighing her down. Whatever it was, it was making her body slow and she hadn’t reached the fire escape as quick as she liked.
She heard him call her name again and it pained her, she would have given anything to her his voice say her name just one more time and now it was. It pulled at her, slowed her movements even more and made her hesitate. He asked her to wait again but this time it seemed to snap her out of her yearning to let him close and she began to move her legs again. But it was too late, he was there, upon her.
The first thing she felt was his hand swiftly slide around her waist to rest on her belly. Then his body collapse into her back and it felt warm. She hadn’t realised how cold she had gotten, not just the cold of being out in the night’s air but the cold that encases your heart and shuts you out to the world. His warmth was starting to melt it away. Artemis didn’t resist him anymore, even as his finger found her pulse she couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle as warm tears started to fall down her cheeks, staining her skin as the dropped onto her chest and his hand. He only succeeded in making her cry more when he remembered her smell and it made her shift in his hold. Artemis managed to turn herself so she could nuzzle her body into his and let herself feel warmth again. Her actions would probably cause his hand to move into her hair and his arms would be able to hold her tighter, it was what she wanted anyway. This was her way of knowing he was real. No illusion was this good and she would negate it anyway. Callum was real and he was here and she wasn’t alone anymore.

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]Artemis still smelled like strawberries, and she was still short. The thought cast a shy smile on Callum's face as he realized he still had to stoop to hug her. "We're going to need to get you a step ladder if we're going to do this more often." It was all fine now in the spring of his youth, but one of these days his back was going to give out.
Untangling his hand from her hair, Callum realized she had not only succeeded in making him feel warm inside, she had completely shattered his indifferent facade. He knew it was probably impossible to completely forget Artemis, but now that she was here he wanted to do nothing more but to melt in her embrace, become the boy she used to know.
Resting his forehead against hers, his discolored gaze lingered dangerously close to hers before he closed his eyes, focusing on the fruity smell of strawberries, the soft sound of her breath, and the light rhythm of her heart that beat soundly against his chest. "I missed you." He admitted quietly.
It was a miracle that she was here, and that she had been able to find him. His mind was racing as he tried to comprehend how she had known to look here for him....unless she really hadn't been looking at all. A quiet, cruel thought slowly wormed it's way into his head, something he should have payed more attention to before that brought a look of horror across his face.
"Wait, are you a student?" He pulled away from her suddenly, drawing his arms back to himself. It had only just occured that maybe Artemis hadn't meant to find him here. Maybe she was just...here, and this had all just been chance.

I’m Still Breathing, She chuckled at his comment, and half pounded her fist into his chest. It wasn’t like she hit him hard, just playfully to let him know that she was slightly annoyed at his teasing of her height. “What are you getting too old to bend?” She teased him back as she hugged him tighter. It felt nice to be in his arms. It wasn’t that it was romantic, it was more that she needed to be close to someone and of all the people in the world she wanted it to be him. He was always there for her and she could count on him to be that shoulder to lean on. Even when she broke her ribs and ended up in the hospital he had come to visit, even gave her a get-well teddy which she managed to keep with her despite her travels to get here.
When he said he missed her she couldn’t help but smile “I missed you too.” Relaxing into him even more she let out a sigh, one akin to relief. To be honest, she was starting to lose herself but having him here now just suddenly made the world was less grim, it even allowed her to hope once more. Maybe she could do more to find the others, she should at least try right? Before she had the chance to ask him about the others she was abruptly pushed away. The cold hit her instantly and her brow creased into a frown. What the hell did he do that for! But that question was answered when he asked if she was a student. “Of course I am a student!” She said roughly back to him, not realised the meaning of his words. She was too worked up that he had pushed her away, that the feeling of being warm and safe was gone. He had given it and now taken it and it made her annoyed.
That was one thing that didn’t change with Arte at least, she still had her temper and right now he was about to have a piece of it. “What’s it matter if I am!?” She moved her hands to her hips, drawing her body up to full height and in some ways that motion was accentuating her changed physique. She was still the same height but her body had more shape, no longer was she so flat chested or looking like she had no curves to her hips at all. Rather time had been quite ‘rewarding’ to her. It wasn’t like she was big busted but she had a nice size that was at least noticeable now. Her hips had shape and her life of training could really be seen in her slider yet firm legs. The only reason any of this could be seen was because the moment she put her hands on her hips, her jacket had come open to reveal her singlet and shorts underneath.
Artemis waited for his response with a glaring look in her eyes.

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]What did it matter? Callum arched a brow, his crimson gaze studying her carefully. It wasn't just a casual glance, rather his eyes seemed to be taking in everything she had on display with a guarded scruntity. "Why are you still in school?" He finally said, a look akin to frustration crossed his face before vanishing behind a cold stare. Clearly it mattered...a lot. Arte wasn't much younger than he was, although her lack of academic achievment wasn't the real problem here.
Callum crossed his arms, putting up a physical barrier between them as he dismissed his earlier question, "Actually, nevermind. It doesn't matter." The question as to why she was still a student lingered, but it wasn't the most important thing on his mind right now.
"You're a student, and I'm a Teacher's Assistant. From now on you and I will always be at least six inches apart at all times. That matters." He growled. After finally reuniting with Artemis, he wanted nothing more than to pull her into his arms and never let go, now he couldn't even brush arms with her without violating some damn rule.

I’m Still Breathing, Her green eyes didn’t leave him for a second so when his started to take in her form she couldn’t help but angrily blush at him. He was infuriating. She grabbed the edges of the jacket and pulled them around her effectively covering herself up again. She wasn’t sure what she was more frustrated about, him seeing her in her pjs or him being angry she was still in school. Yes, she was that oblivious to what his actual stare meant, to her she was just embarrassed he saw her in her pjs not even realising that his mind was elsewhere. “I’m here because I had to repeat! I’ve been out of school for a year now and they told me that because I didn’t finished year 3 and missed out on a year I had to do it again.” She was about to continue her little rant but he had cut her off, dismissing her saying it doesn’t matter. That only served to make her even more angry at him, that was until what he said next made her realise why he had pulled away from her.
It hit her like a tonne of bricks, she was a student and he a teacher. He was right, they couldn’t be close like they used to be, couldn’t even be best friends like they were. She frowned and looked away from him, if anyone even thought that she was friends with a teacher…. the rumours would just be terrible and then what that could do to his career. How could she have been so careless? “I’m sorry.” She found herself saying the words again. Life really was cruel, she finally had someone back but it wasn’t like it could be. She wouldn’t be able to be close like they were in college, couldn’t go and have dinner at his dorm or watch a movie. She wouldn’t be able to greet him with a hug like she had asked him to do so long ago. “I understand, I’ll go back to my dorm…sir” She muttered the words as she left the roof. Her back to him as she climbed down the first escape to her room. Well if that’s what he wanted then fine, she would give it to him.
But even as she climbed down the fire escape she couldn’t bring herself to hate him. Actually, she smiled because he was here and it didn’t matter if they couldn’t be friends like they were before. She wasn’t alone anymore and that was enough.

[attr="class","sf_body"] [attr="class","sf_text"]This was the furthest thing from what he wanted. What he wanted was to have Artemis back in his arms, this time forever. What he wanted was to be able to get to know her and spend more time with her, hopefully, more time than he had last time. But even after her parting phrase, Callum couldn't bring himself to speak. He knew what it would mean if he called her back, and it wouldn't be right.
Watching her disappeared down the fire escape, his sigh came quite a few minutes later. "Next time Miss.Nike, please use the door." It didn't matter if she heard him, his voice was hardly more than a grumble anyways. Disappointed their meeting had ended on such a lonely note, Callum trudged back the way he came.
In a few hours he would be expected to be present in fourth year calculus. Callum wasn't sure how he would force his brain back into it's normal routine. After all Artemis was here. He wished now he'd taken the time to talk to her properly. Did she know where Dartz was, or anyone else? What had happened to her, and Kari? He felt a pang of sadness as he thought of his old school, trudging through the dorm building without much awareness as to where he was going.
Artemis was back, and now she was further then ever.
