“Well I mean I really like you so why wouldn’t I be nice to you.” Emery listened to Ty’s words with a smile across her face, her heart pounding at his admission. He liked her. Her. Of all people. She didn’t have a high opinion of herself, so the fact that he admitted his attraction to her was astounding. Since she was young, all her mother ever pointed out were her flaws and mistakes, as well as everything she should’ve been. Her mother was the closest person she ever considered herself to, and she had never given her a compliment before. It was tough love, or at least that was what Emery always told herself. Emery noticed the blush adorning Ty’s cheeks and smiled at the thought. At least she wasn’t the only one embarrassed. It was a nice feeling now that the tables had changed. Still, she didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable. Nodding to herself, she looked up at him and decided to make an admission of her own. “To be honest…” she trailed off for a moment, taking a deep breath before continuing. “I also…like you.” There. She said it. Feeling her heart about to burst from her chest, she continued on. “I hope we can do this again sometime. I had a lot of fun.” Despite her embarrassment, she forced herself to smile at her words so he knew how truthful she was being. Taking a step back from him, she glanced around and spotted a clock, realizing at that moment how much time had passed. “Is it that late already?” she gasped, rushing over to grab her bookbag from the table she left it on earlier. Walking back over to Ty, she did a polite bow and muttered, “Please forgive me for staying so late. I should head back before someone notices I’m gone.” Shifting her bag strap on her shoulder, she flashed a wide smile. “Let’s do this again. I hope to see you soon.” Emery felt something spring between the two that night. Something different. Something new. She couldn’t quite place her finger on what it was, but whatever it was, it made her feel happy. And she couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt this way. All she knew was she hoped she continued to feel this way, and that Ty did too. |
