Emery hummed quietly to herself, laying out on the couch in the common area of the dorms. She had her handy bookbag placed at the end of the couch, and her feet were swept under her in a sitting position. With her notebook placed in her lap, she had her history homework she was currently working on. Pencil in hand, she tapped the notebook thoughtfully as she pondered the next question in her textbook beside her, writing down some historical facts about Silver Falls and the areas surrounding it.
It had been a short day for her. Classes were the same, and nothing new had happened. While she finished most of her studies in her actual classes, the last remaining work she had to do fell in history and mathematics – the latter being her mortal enemy. She brushed her bangs to the side of her face and thought about the next question carefully before placing her answer down, the only sound heard in the common area being the markings of her pencil writing furiously on her notebook.
The only reason she was in the common area today was to meet with Ty. The two had agreed the day before to have dinner together in his dorm, something she still blushed about at the thought. She normally wasn’t one to accept dates, only being asked out by two boys in her past and running away from them both times. Emery cringed at the memory. She wasn’t the best with dealing with conflict, and so she merely ran away when she couldn’t handle it. She really had to grow out of that.
Nevertheless, Ty should be here any minute by this point. Emery had arrived early, entering the common area of the dorms after her last class had ended. Rather than wasting her time waiting around, she chose to be productive and make use of her time by finishing up the last of her schoolwork for the day, something she often did when presented with extra time on her hands. And so she found herself here, by herself, lounging about on the couch with her handy notebook and homework.
She had been surprised with the lack of traffic in the commons. Only a handful of people came and went that she noticed, but then again she’d been so consumed by her work she simply might not have noticed. After finishing her last answer to her history homework, she let out a sigh and closed her textbook, slouching on the couch and glancing at the clock thoughtfully. Ty should be here any time now, she thought to herself patiently.

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Ty had finished classes quite early. So he had time to get in a few rounds at the martial art club with Kendo. He spend about an hour there training, lifting, matche, etc... He wiped the sweat with the towel that hung over his shoulder as he entered the dorms. He went right to the guys side and unlocked the door and climbed his way to the top floor. He threw his bag and Shinai, the same for the bamboo sword, on his bed and hopped into the shower. He really didn't want to meet Emery being all sweaty and gross. Not the best thing to do on first date? Ty thought about it for a second. Was it really a date? Could he have actually convinced a girl to have a date with him. He had always thought he was too boring to ever to do. So it was almost unreal he got one.
He jumped out of the shower and dried himself off. He threw on a shirt that had Japanese writing on the front and back. He forgot half his wardrobe was all in Japanese and would most likely confuse half the people on campus if they tried to read it. But hey it's all he has. He threw on a pair of black jeans. After putting on his shoes he made his way downstairs. He opened the door and saw the red head sitting on one of the couches. He just stood there for a moment really taking it in that he actually has a date. Most people probably wouldn't think it was big deal or anything, or they are used it. But Ty wasn't really allowed to have a girlfriend or anything because he was so focused on studies and kendo. Being the first born son to noble family usually meant you have to do something with your life. And being third in line to be the emperor if something were to happen to his cousins and uncle. It was a big responsibility so he really had no time what so ever to focus on his own life.
So the fact that he was staring at a possible girlfriend made him nervous as all hell. But he took a breath and walked over. He looked over her shoulder and saw paper on top of a text book. He grinned slyly, he did kinda want to surprise/startle her a bit. To calm his nerves and maybe hers if she had any. So he reached down and pointed at an answer. "Isn't this answer wrong?" he asked waiting for a reaction.
After he got her reaction and chuckled a bit. He looked down at her. "Im joking Emery." he admitted as he laughed a bit. That did certainly calm his nerves a bit. It now felt like yesterday where they could just hang out. "How was your day." he asked as he waited for her to get her things ready as he waited patiently. When she got her things ready they moved to the guys side of the dorm. As Ty unlocked the door that led to the hallway. He smiled at her as they proceeded down the hallway on the guys side of the dorm. Then to the stairs to start the hellish climb to the top.

Emery felt a strand of hair on her face and quickly brushed it behind her ear, letting out another sigh. She had managed to finish her history homework and was now bored with nothing to do. She didn’t have a phone or technology like most of the other students – not being able to afford one – so she was left with only books to read. Not that books bothered her. In fact, reading was one of her favorite hobbies. She considered herself a geek at heart; ever since she was young, she would be found in her closet at home with her head buried in a book.
She heard the door to the boys’ dorm open and paid no mind to it, assuming another boy was making his way out on the campus. With her remote viewing, however, she sensed the presence walk closer to her till it reached the backside of the couch she sat upon. Confused, thinking she did something wrong, she was pleasantly surprised to see Ty’s face grinning down when she turned her head.
“Isn’t this answer wrong?” he asked, reaching beside her to point at her notebook.
“Huh?!” Turning back to read her notebook, she scanned her answer profusely while feeling instantly embarrassed. She got something wrong? Not that it was unheard of, but it didn’t happen often, much less called out on by someone else. When he laughed and admitted to joking around, she instantly let out a sigh of relief. That was a close one. “Don’t scare me like that,” she joked back, letting out a small laugh of her own. Deciding to pack her things, she quickly placed her notebook, textbook, and pencil all in her bookbag before zipping it up, placing the bag over her shoulders and hopping up from the couch.
She reached her arms up in the air, stretching, before placing them back to her sides and turning to face Ty. “I’ve been sitting on that couch for too long,” she admitted awkwardly, scratching her cheek. Ty asked how her day was while he unlocked the door to the boys’ dorms, and Emery followed him into the hallway as she thought to herself quietly.
“Hmm. It was normal. Nothing exciting happened, but I managed to finish most of my homework in class, so that’s good. How about you?” As they walked down the hallway, Emery expected to be led to one of the bottom-floor rooms only to watch Ty reach the stairs. Confused, she tilted her head and decided to ask, “What floor is your room on?” She didn’t want to be caught walking around the boys’ dorms. The last thing she needed was to get in trouble over something minor like that. She secretly hoped his room wasn’t too far. Maybe the second floor?

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Ty chuckled when she stretched. "looks like it." he said to her they took off to the boys side. As they walked through the halls he listened to her soft voice as she spoke about her day. And how she finished all her homework in class. Ty wished he had the motivation to do all that homework. Not that he really needed to to the homework since he understood everything the first go through when the teacher taught their lessons. But didn't help that he would do it the day of or even ten minuets before the class. He was always rushing to do the homework because he was too lazy to do it outside of classes...
"My day was good. Finished class then went to kendo practice, beat some people up. Got beat up. Same old same old I guess." he chuckled as he felt like Emery would get on his case for being beat up and might ask to see the new bruises he has acquired from his session of matches today, with the way she acted yesterday with just a couple on his arms. "But overall I was just kinda waiting to hang out with you." he admitted with a slight blush coming over his face.
When they got to the stairs she looked a bit confused when he looked back at her. When she asked what room he lived on. He looked at her and casually as hell said. "The top floor." as he looked back up the stairs and started to climb them. He was waiting for a comment around wait wait you live on the top floor, are you rich, royalty, etc.. He was used to it. Most of the friends he had back home were like that when they first learned was the nephew of the emperor. And lived in a gigantic house with his grandfather. It was honestly way to normal for him to be surrounded by people of riches and royalty. It was just like a normal day. Be understood why people got surprised when they did find out he was born into such a family. But he never really cared, he was too laid back to cared what others thought. Plus he hoped she really wouldn't judge him because of it...
After climbing the stairs they reached the top floor. He walked a couple doors down and finally reached his room. He slid his card into the slot as the door could be heard unlocking one it stopped clicking and it was unlocked he opened the door to reveal what it was like living on the top floor in the really fancy dorm rooms. Ty was never one to brag about anyone it. He did kinda wish to be part of the normal crew down on the first floor. But his grandfather said other wise and got him a room on the top floor. His exact words were 'my grandchild shall not live with those heathens.' Ty protested as much as he could but usually he never got his way so he just had to accept being on the top floor.
He held the door open so Emery could walk in, he fallowed her in and shut the door behind himself. "Welcome to my humble abode..." he said as he just looked at her. "I know what your thinking and don't take it out of context. Im just like everyone else downstairs." he went onto say as he walked passed her. "But my grandfather set this up and I can't really say no to him so." he trailed off as he walked in and sat on the couch that was in the middle of the room. He really didn't say much after waiting for her response or judgement....

Emery was genuinely surprised they hadn’t run into any other boys on their way through the dorms. Where was everyone? Probably in their dorms or out on campus, she thought to herself. That was good. At least the two wouldn’t get caught sneaking around.
While the two walked, she listened to Ty mention his kendo practice, casually talking about getting beat up and doing the same to others. Emery let out a startled “Huh?!” for the second time that day. “You got hurt? Is it more bruises? Do you need me to take you to the nurse’s office? Or perhaps get some aspirin? I have some in my bag.” Without waiting for a reply, she reached behind her shoulder and grabbed her bookbag, unzipping the top to shuffle around its contents and pull out a bottle of aspirin. She held it out and shook it as if proving its authenticity.
His next words startled her even more as he told her he lived on the top floor of the dorms. Emery wondered at that point what kind of family he had, but felt it was too rude to ask at that point in time. Mind your own business, as her mother would say. Still, her curiosity was peaked. After all, she would never be able to afford the top dorms herself. Her small-knit family had always struggled, barely getting by with the skin of their backs. She decided to not comment on the matter at hand, though, her fear of possibly upsetting Ty too great.
Maybe his family is related to someone important, she thought to herself. Of course, he had mentioned living with his grandfather and no one else. Did he have parents? It was also too early to ask such personal questions like that. She shook her head at the thought, scolding herself for even thinking such a thing.
Once they finally reached the top floor, Ty led her to a door and opened it, holding the door open for her to enter first. Smiling and giving a small nod of thanks, she walked past him and gasped, holding a hand up to her mouth.
This definitely didn’t look like a dorm.
The living room, itself, was larger than her dorm. It was wide-spaced and open, with a kitchen being easily spotted over a counter on the other side of the room. She stopped to stare in awe; she’d never seen a room like this before. The furnishings were modern and new, so much so that she didn’t want to sit on them. Everything was beautiful.
Ty called it his humble abode, but there was nothing humble about it. It was certainly extravagant. Emery turned to look at him, who was sitting on the couch by this point, with wide eyes. “It’s amazing,” she breathed. “Your grandfather must want the best for you. That must be nice.” Emery smiled in his direction, looking around and spotting a nearby table. “Is it alright if I place my bookbag down?” she asked, walking over to the table and pointing.

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Just before they started to walked up the stairs he heard Emery search through her bag as she said crazy things like she did yesterday which he just proceeded to laugh at it. It was pretty cute after all. "Emery, I'm fiiiiiiine. Trust me. If I wasn't, I would be complaining about something." he chuckled as he looked at her and smiled to make it sink in that he was in fact tough. He brought up his hands to hers and pushed the aspirin back to her chest. "Thank you for caring though. If I'm ever in pain I know who to call." he lastly said with another short chuckle and a big smile.
After reaching his room and opening the door and walking in. He just saw the plastered look of surprise and awe on her face. Even her surprise face was cute. When she walked in a bit more as he lazily sat on the couch. She seemed like every step she took she would break something trying to be so careful. When she asked if she could place her bag on the table. Ty just laughed, like that's all he could do at her actions. He stood up from the couch and walked over to her. He raised his hand and patted her head. "When ever you are here, treat this place like it is your own. I really don't mind. My place is your place." he said before walking past her to go to the kitchen area.
He grabbed two cups from the cabinet and filled them with water. "I hope water is fine. I really don't have anything else." he chuckled at how useless he was right now. Not even having coffee or tea for them to drink.
He looked at her as he sat back down on the couch. "But to comment about my grandfather wanting the best. He does." he paused and sighed as he looked at the ceiling. "But it does help that his youngest brother is the emperor of Japan. And my grandfather carries a lot of weight in choices he makes too. So that is a big help." Ty admitted as he scratched his cheek. He kinda hated saying that his family was really important. If he could choose he would gladly choose a common life than that he has now. It was more of a pain more than anything with all the meetings Ty has to attend to keep up with his cousins cause he is third in line. Plus all the events his family holds he has to go to.
"But really don't think you have tip toe around me just because my family is important. I kinda hate that. I am just another kid that likes to do a lot of things normal people do." he lastly said before he took a sip of water. He has always wondered what it would have been like to have been born into a normal lower class family? Would he have loved his parents more. Would he have had normal childhood. Who knows. But he can't change anything so he accepts what he has. And just goes with flow and tells people to not think of him as royalty.

Emery stood there, waiting for a reply. What she got surprised her: Ty laughing before proceeding to walk over and give her a light pat on the head. It was something a parent would do to their child. She puffed her cheeks out, embarrassed, feeling her face flush. That certainly wasn’t the reaction she had been expecting, but he nonetheless welcomed her to his home. And so, with his permission, she took her bookbag off her shoulder and placed it on the table.
Ty proceeded to head in his kitchen and offer her a glass of water, something she thanked him for and took a sip of as soon as it was handed to her. When he went to sit back down on the couch, she froze by the door. Should she sit down, too? Where should she sit? Would it be rude if she didn’t? Ultimately agreeing it would be rude if she didn’t sit, Emery walked over and took a seat beside Ty on the couch, feeling like it was similar to their seating arrangements on the rooftop when they first met. She smiled at the thought.
When Ty mentioned his relation to the emperor of Japan, Emery nearly choked on her drink. Does that make him royalty? Everything she was learning led her to believe more so that she didn’t deserve to be around him. But he spoke further, explaining how that didn’t change how she needed to act. She tilted her head, confused. So he wanted her to act normally? If that’s how he wanted it, she would do just that. Despite her initial nervousness, the people-pleaser in her told her to follow what she was told to do.
“Okay then,” she finally replied. “No more tip toeing. Thank you for telling me about your family.” Emery’s words were sincere. She was happy he trusted her with this knowledge about his family, and she was also sure he’d have trust issues over who he chose to share this information with. It was to be expected, and something she could completely understand. She, herself, was reluctant to talk about her family.
But since he shared his story, it was only fair to share hers. “Since you told me about your family, let me tell you a bit about mine,” Emery responded. “I was raised by my mother till my late teens. I never knew my father, but I like to imagine he was a good man. My mother passed away a few years ago, and my aunt took care of me after that. Then this year, I received a letter from Aurora Academy inviting me to enroll. They must’ve discovered my abilities, but I’m not sure how. I’m a very private person about them, but they must have scouts. Anyway, that’s how I ended up here.”
She took a deep breath before continuing. “Before I forget, I never mentioned my abilities. I have two – I can manipulate fires and sense a person’s presence without seeing them.” She grinned. “This means you can never sneak up on me!”
“Anyway, that’s my story,” Emery ended, smiling thoughtfully. She avoided any details of her dark past, but the fact that he willed her to share a part of herself was an improvement on its own. She felt excited. Happy. Genuinely, truly happy.
Glancing around, she noticed a TV stand with a game console sticking out, pointing to the contraption and asking aloud, “Is that a game system? I’ve never played one before.”

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Ty chuckled when she almost choked on the water. There was the reaction he was waiting for. It was just the normal reaction anyone had finding out he was royalty. But Ty gave a huge sigh if relief when she said she wouldn't tip toe around him. It was one of his biggest pet peeves. When people act different around just because they know who he is. It was like most people just changed out they acted around him. They weren't the same, they were nicer, more kind. Not that Ty didn't like that. But it wasn't a true kind.
When she said she would tell something about her family. He listened to her, he was a bit interested in listing to her story. He wanted to know what made her, well her. He just wanted to know more about her. was that bad that he really wanted to learn more about her despite them meeting yesterday. But when she started to tell about her family his eager little smile went away. How horrible to go through some much.
Once she finished talking about her family he just started to fiddle with his hands. "I'm sorry you had to go through that." he said to her. It must have been tough on her. She really must be a strong woman to have gone through all that but have a bright outlook on life. Or at least that's how he saw it with her cheery smile she had when they first met. It was actually pretty amazing.
"But those abilities sound really cool." he admitted as he wished he could control fire and sense anyone around her. That was quite amazing. Both of those abilities could help Ty if he ever got into a fight. Especially the sensory ability. Mostly since he does go two on one in kendo and it would help with seeing through attacks.
When she mentioned the game console that sat under his t.v he looked at it then her and chuckled. "yea it is. We can pla-" he was in the middle of saying when his stomach decided to talk. Well more like growl at Ty to feed it. He blushed a bit when his stomach did that. "How about we have dinner before I beat you in a couple games yea." he said as he smiled.
"I got a special dinner for you if you like octopus. I'm gunna make takoyaki." he said with a smile as he got a bit excited. Ty loved to cook. And he was always excited to cook something for someone because he loved the look on their face when they tried something of his and just smiled and said it was amazing.
"It's octopus inside a ball of doe with other things it in. I'm sure you'll like it." he lastly said before standing up and heading to the kitchen. "Would you want to help me cut something for preparation?" ha asked her from the kitchen with a smile as he looked at her.

Emery was surprised to find herself talking so much. It felt so natural, despite the fact that she usually apologizes for talking too much. It didn’t change the fact, however, that Ty was simply easy to talk to. He made eye contact and listened while she went on about herself, looking interested and eager to learn more about her. It was strange. She wasn’t used to being the focal point of attention, let alone someone wanting to learn about her and her history. It was a nice change of pace.
Still, she didn’t think she could continue talking about herself. Any more words and she might reveal details she didn’t want to discuss, and so her voice came to an end. Emery was surprised to hear Ty’s first comment about her story being an apology for her life. He hadn’t even heard the worst of it, yet he looked on at her with empathetic eyes. She shook her head at his words. “No need to apologize. I’ve had a decent life. It could always be worse,” she responded. Emery was the type that looked at a glass half-full, always wanting to make the most of any situation.
When he mentioned that her abilities “sound really cool,” she felt herself blush slightly. It was a strange compliment to receive. Emery had never had someone tell her those words about her abilities, but then again few people knew about them – even at the school. Even her closest friend only knew about her pyrokinesis, not so much her remote viewing. She was glad, however, that she finally did the research years ago to put names to these gifts. It was frustrating when she first learned about them and didn’t know what to call them.
After she pointed out the game console, Ty began to suggest to play before his stomach let out a low rumble. One look at his expression and Emery couldn’t help herself: she let out a soft laugh, her voice ringing through the empty dorm. It was cute the way he looked embarrassed about it, but she would never say that aloud. He made a joke about having dinner first before he beats her in a game, and she couldn’t help but smile at his playfulness. “You’ll have to go easy on me. I’ve never played a videogame before,” she admitted.
Ty proceeded to tell her about dinner he wanted to prepare – takoyaki, a special octopus dish. Emery had never heard of it before, assuming by the name it was Japanese. They really did have an interesting culture. As he went on to talk about the dish, Emery felt her own stomach growl in excitement. “It sounds good. I’ve never had octopus before,” she replied. Standing up and following Ty into the kitchen, she looked around while he asked her if she would help cut some food. Nodding her head, Emery asked aloud, “What would you like me to cut?”
She didn’t want to admit she was a terrible cook – that would be far too embarrassing at this point. Instead, she told herself she’d try her best to impress Ty. What was the worst that could happen?

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Ty chuckled at her statement of going easy on her when they play because she has never played one. "I don't really know how to go easy. But I shall try." he teased back as he laughed. It was true though, any time he played something competitive he would go all out. Even in video games. He would by no means get really up set while playing and rage. But he just liked to be competitive. Kendo though was a whole different story. He took as serious as he could and always won no matter how tall the other person was. Or how strong. Ty would finish the fight and win.
Ty got out the special heating tray that he would use to cook the final product. He got out the octopus from the fridge veggies and some tempura scraps that had been fried already, couple onions, and a pickled ginger. He placed all the ingredients on the counter and looked at her. "I'll cook the octopus if you wouldn't mind cutting up the onions and ginger. Like make them diced too." he said to her with a smile as grabbed a couple knifes. He handed one to Emery to cut the onions. The other knife was to cut up the tempura scraps and the octopus once it was done cooking.
He grabbed a pan after turning on the stove. He filled the pan with olive oil to cook the tempura scraps a bit more. Once the hot liquid was hot enough he tossed the tempura scraps into the oil as the oil crackled and popped when the tempura was added. After he did that he turned on other stove and grabbed a huge stockpot. He filled it with water and placed it on the open stove. He just waited for the water to boil which was pretty quick. Once the water was boiling. Ty put the octopus in the pot and covered it to let it cook.
By this time the tempura scraps had been crisped up and ready to cut a bit more from their large size. He took each one out carefully and dried them off from the oil bath they were just in. He grabbed a cutting board and placed it next to emery. He took his knife and started to chop pretty fast the tempura scraps. "I love cooking, I've cooked since I was eleven. And just kept better and better. So I tried more and more complex things and they worked out. I think that's when I really fell in love with cooking." he said as he kept cutting away. He was trying to make some small talk and get rid of the silence. He would have thrown on some music, but all the music he had was in his native tongue so it probably would have been awkward.
Once he finished chopping up the tempura he grabbed the special molded pan and turned out both of the stoves and placed the special pan over them to heat up. "So this meal is basically like octopus, onions, and ginger on the inside of the doe. Then a special sauce is added to the top of the balls, then the tempura scraps I just cut up." he explained as he looked at her waiting for the stove to heat up which took a while.
As it heated up the pot the octopus was in started to scream notifying Ty it was ready. He took out the octopus tentacles, he only cooked two of them cause that's all he needed. He cut them into small portions quickly. "So what are some of your favorite foods?" he asked her with a chuckle trying to think of some small talk. Once the octopus was cut up and the stove was hot. He grabbed the liquid doe and started to fill each ball shaped part and then proceeded to put octopus, the onions and ginger Emery cut up in the floating doe. Ty grabbed metal chopsticks and just waited for the doe to cook.
Once the bottom doe was fully cooked Ty proceeded to move fast flipping each small ball with the metal chopsticks he had and make sure that each of the filling didn't fall out. Once the balls were fully cooked he took each out and placed five on each place he had got down as the doe was cooking. He placed them side by side. He then walked over to the fridge to grab the sauce that he lined onto the balls. Then grabbed the tempura scraps and put them on top of the everything. "Aaaand here we go. takoyaki." he said with a smile as he looked at her. They were hard to make if you didn't know how to flip them or how to cook octopus but since Ty knew how to cook them perfectly, he cooked them a lot because they were one of his favorite foods.
"We can just eat at the living room table since I dont have a table yet. Forgot to buy one." he chuckled nervously. He honestly keeps for getting to buy a table for his dorm. It didn't come with one. But he wanted a small one just to put stuff or work on some homework there. But he just kept for getting. As Ty took both plates to the living room table and placed one down for her. And the other next to hers for himself. He sat down where he placed his own. He had grabbed two forks for both of them before he left the kitchen. "Well dig in." he said with a smile.

“I don’t really know how to go easy. But I shall try.”
Emery paled at Ty’s words. If he didn’t go easy on her during their gaming match, she’d surely lose. Not that she minded losing – in fact, it might be better that way. She didn’t want to possibly make Ty upset if she won. She didn’t know him well enough to know if he was a sore loser or not. When it came to games, she knew people really got invested in winning. The last thing she wanted to do was start a conflict, but she felt torn. On one hand she wanted to play and try something new, but on the other she was worried about what it would lead to. Games and sports had the tendency to sometimes bring out violence or loud reactions.
Ty seemed laidback, though. She was sure she had nothing to worry about. Nodding this thought to herself, she watched as he began preparing their food, impressed with how quickly he made his way around the kitchen. It seemed second-nature to him, while it was completely foreign to her. Emery’s mother insisted on being the cook of their household, so she never got the chance to try cooking, herself, when she was younger. As she grew older and her mother left her to fend for herself on occasion, she would make simple meals that didn’t require much prep. It was easier for her, considering she was an amateur.
When Ty placed out the onions and ginger, asking her to dice them up, she tilted her head in confusion. Emery wasn’t used to cutting things, and knives made her nervous, but this was for cooking so she took a deep breath and nodded her head. She noticed she wasn’t nearly as fast at cutting as Ty was, taking her time to slowly chop the ingredients one after another.
Chop. Pause. Chop. Pause. Chop. Pause.
This continued on as the two were temporarily engulfed in silence, Emery not minding it at all. She was used to silence, and in a way it was comforting to her. Besides, the silence made it easier to focus on chopping the onions and ginger.
The silence didn’t last long, however, when she heard Ty’s voice pipe up, discussing his passion for cooking. She smiled knowingly. He didn’t have to say anything – she could tell by watching him work, knowing exactly what he was doing, that he knew how to cook well. It made her all the more eager to taste the meal being prepared. He asked her what her favorite foods were, and she tilted her head while she chopped carefully, thinking to herself.
“I suppose if I had to choose, it would be seafood,” she answered after awhile. “Fish, salmon, shrimp – I’ll eat anything from the sea. That’s why I’m looking forward to trying octopus.” When she was done chopping the onions and ginger, Emery backed up and stood to the side of the kitchen, watching Ty continue his cooking with fascinated eyes. It was adorable how much he focused on preparing their meal, the silence between them comforting and proving his concentration on cooking.
Once he finished, Emery clapped her hands excitedly. “Time to eat!” she exclaimed, following Ty back into the living room and sitting on the couch once more. She took a fork from him and waited for the plates to be placed in front of her before trying her first bite, chewing the cooked octopus thoroughly with a thoughtful expression on her features. Finally swallowing, she turned to Ty with a smile across her face. “It’s perfect! You should cook more often for me,” she joked, turning back to eat more of the takoyaki.

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Ty looked over when she said anything seafood really. He didn't answer her back, but that was probably the best answer she could have given. Ty makes a lot of seafood when he cooks for dinner. He will do a lot of sushi, or just fish steak. So her liking seafood was such a big point for her that he couldn't even explain. After all seafood is life. But Ty did cook other things, he knew how to cook steak, lamb, among other things. But his favorite was still by far seafood.
After he was done cooking and went over to the living room table, after shutting off all the stoves and placing the dirty dishes in the sink. They made their way to the couch and they both sat down. Ty watched as she ate one of the first takoyaki and her face lit up. As she finished it she said it's perfect. Ty blushed a tiny bit after she said he should cook more for her. He would gladly cook more for her. Make sushi, ramen, fish, really anything she asked for he could most likely cook it for her. Plus he liked seeing that beautiful smile of hers.
He dug into his own dinner as he could taste every since thing that resided in the small ball of doe. Once he swallowed the food he took a sip of water and looked at Emery. "You did a good job cutting up the onions and ginger. They were perfectly cut." he said to her with a smile. They weren't too big or anything. They were diced perfectly. He was happy, it saved him about 20 minuets in extra prep time.
Once they finished their dinners Ty got up and took her plate and walked over and put them in the sink. He walked back out into the living room and grabbed both controllers for the nintendo 64 and put them on the table "I'm glad you liked the dinner. But now it's video game time." he chuckled trying to sound serious but it just ended up sounding really stupid.
"So we kinda have to sit on the ground to play because we are playing an older console and they are wired into the console itself. We would play ps4 but a lot of those games are really hard. the nintendo 64 has some fun and easy games. Plus the controls are easy to learn on these controllers." he said as he plopped himself on the floor in front of the t.v and patted the ground next to himself for her to come and join him.
"We shall be playing Mario party. It's the easiest game I have. And it whole bunch of fun." he chuckled remembering the times he had with his friends back home playing the game... After Ty showed Emery the controls he booted up the game. "You ready Emery!" he said enthusiastically.

Emery was surprised at the comment Ty made on her perfect cutting. While she did consider herself to be a perfectionist, food certainly wasn’t her specialty. Not by a long shot. Although she was careful while she cut the onions and ginger, wanting to make sure she didn’t mess anything up. She was just grateful she didn’t cut herself on accident.
As she finished her last few bites, she let out a soft sigh signaling she was full of food, rubbing her belly. Ty proceeded to pick up her plate, and Emery let out a small “Thank you” as he walked away. She was surprised how clean he was, picking up the plates immediately after they finished. Even his dorm – or rather, apartment-looking space – was clean with hardly a spec of dust in sight. Of course she had yet to see the bedroom; that could look entirely different than the front part of the dorm.
Emery immediately blushed, shaking her head to rid of any stray thoughts. Why would she be in Ty’s bedroom? There was no reason for her to even consider that. It was his personal space, and she wasn’t the invading type. The only other reason she’d be in there was if they were romantically involved –
AH! Stop thinking that, Emery!
Now she was embarrassed, her face flushed completely red. She hoped Ty wouldn’t notice. Shaking her head once more, she turned her attention back to the game, surprised that they had to sit down on the floor. But she did as she was instructed, sitting down carefully beside Ty and taking the controller handed to her. There were so many buttons! How was she supposed to play? Thankfully he gave her a quick rundown on how to operate the controls, and since it was an old system it was apparently easier to handle than the newer models.
“Let’s make things interesting,” she spoke as he started up the game. “Whoever wins has to give the other a favor. Like for instance…” Emery trailed off, trying to decide what she wanted. Ultimately coming up with something involving his help, she replied, “If I win, you have to help me with my math homework. Sound fair?” Of course if he didn’t like betting, she would back down. Emery was never the forceful type, after all.

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Ty was sitting on the ground looking back at Emery after he said they would have to play on the floor. It had seemed something was on her mind. What ever was made her face flair up in huge blush. He tilted his head just a bit wondering what she was thinking... When she finally shook the thought away and sat down on the floor next to him. He brought up his arm and lightly poked her forehead with two fingers. "You okay? you look a little red." he said. He knew it was a blush but he wanted to see how she would react. After all, Ty can be a bit playful and teasing so she better get used to it.
Ty got up on his knees to turn on the t.v and the flick the switch to the n64. But of course the damn game cartridge didn't read. So he took it out. Blew into the cartridge to get rid of any dust and what ever else was hiding in there. Then shoved it back into the the console. The game finally booted up. It was all the same with these old gems of a console. Blowing out all the dust if there was any in there just to get it to work. It was annoying. But it somehow added to the experience of old school gaming none the less.
When they got to the start screen Ty looked over at Emery as she spoke up about a little wager. One of Ty's eyebrows raised as she explained if one of them wins the other has to do a favor. He liked the those odds. Even though he didn't understand why she would bet when she has never played the game??? It was a bit baffling to Ty but hey, it would make winning now worth it. "Okay deal." he said as he thought of something for her to do when he would win.
A light bulb came on in his head as he thought of something. "I got!" he said with a bit of a smug smile. "We have to kiss if I win the game." he said as there was quite a blush across his face but who wouldn't have one when your saying that or betting on it. But he did have a smile on his face somehow. After all if he did win he would be kissing a very beautiful girl. That is if she agrees to his bet.

"You okay? You look a little red.”
Emery blinked, coming to her senses just as Ty poked her forehead. Her face blushed harder at the feel of his warm hand, quickly shaking her head. “What? Oh, nothing! I’m fine. Just fine.” She was sure that was as convincing as a kid saying their dog at their homework, but it was the best she could manage for the time being. After all, there was no way she would admit what she was actually thinking, grateful that Ty wasn’t a psychic or mind reader.
She watched as Ty blew into the cartridge of the game and tilted her head, confused. Was that a standard practice? Or was it another Japanese thing? She’d never had experience with gaming before, so she wasn’t sure if that was normal or not, not wanting to voice her question to make herself sound lame. Their date had been going well so far, and she didn’t want to spoil it.
If it was a date. She still wasn’t completely clear on that.
If her face wasn’t red before, it certainly was now after Ty suggested a kiss if he won the game. Letting out a surprised “Huh?!” for the third time that evening, she was surprised he had the courage to ask for something like that. She didn’t have any actual dating experience, so she wasn’t even sure if she was a good kisser. Was it something you were born with, or did you get better with more experience? She assumed some people were naturals. Had Ty kissed anyone before?
There she goes again, thinking embarrassing thoughts. With her cheeks matching the rosy color of her hair, Emery shyly nodded her head. She was the one that suggested it, and part of her was excited with bets now on the line. It made things more interesting. It made her more determined to win (although part of her wouldn’t mind losing either). “D-deal,” she mumbled out, puffing out her cheeks and focusing her concentration on the game. “Let’s do this!”
In the end, it was her lack of experience that got the best of her.
During the game – what was it called again? Mart-io? – there was a point where Emery thought she would win. She held her ground and managed to not fall far behind from Ty’s score during most of the game. There were COMs to beat as well, something that confused the daylights out of her. It eventually came down to the last portion of the game with the two’s scores close together. Emery found herself scooting closer and closer to the TV for a better view, her eyes narrowed as she breathed heavily. This was the final match.
She had been close – closer than she thought she would be – but ultimately Ty won the game. Emery let out a disappointed sigh. “I was sooo close!” she exclaimed, pouting in front of the TV. She didn’t want to look at Ty, too embarrassed by the outcome. Emery could take the bet back, but that wouldn’t be fair. And she wasn’t the sore-loser type.
Slowly turning away from the TV, she crawled over toward Ty and sat beside him, garnet eyes staring into his brown ones. Releasing a deep breath, she embarrassingly replied, “Well, a bet is a bet. Looks like you lucked out of helping me with math.” She let out a laugh to calm her nerves.
Taking another deep breath, she closed her eyes and leaned forward, aiming to kiss his cheek since she was on his side.
