Kota smiled, food tray in hand, heading up the steps to his usual lunch spot. The bell had rung only a few short minutes ago, and his bag slung over his shoulder was free of any homework. So far. He kept his fingers crossed it stayed that way. It wasn’t every day that he got the chance to relax without the need to worry about extra work to do after school. His studies had been piling up as of late, and he couldn’t seem to stop struggling in certain classes.
Like math, for instance. Who needs to know the square root of X? All he needed from that class was how to calculate the tip at restaurants. Boom. Done. Class over.
Shaking his blonde head, he huffed and continued his steps toward the rooftop, skipping a spot here and there that appeared too worn down or dirty. Finally reaching the top of the stairs, he backed into the door to open it and proceeded to enter the area designated for lunch, spotting a free bench seat for himself to plop down on. It had been a long day, and as he shrugged off his bag to let it fall clumsily against the floor beside him, he was ready to chow down on his food. A man’s gotta eat sometime.
As he began to pick up his burger – not one of the healthiest choices on the menu, but delicious nonetheless – Kota spotted a couple of boys enter the rooftop area as he did before. Recognizing the two instantly, he quickly put his head down to avoid being spotted.
Great. Those two.
He didn’t know their names, but the two were in his hall in the dorms. Kota had first greeted them when he arrived on campus, only to be called ‘shorty’ and have his belongings kicked around. Apparently they were the type that didn’t want to be messed with, something he found out the hard way.
Glancing back up, he realized he’d been spotted as one of the boys pointed in his direction. Time to get this over with. Offering a small, polite wave, Kota placed his food back down on his tray and stood up, watching the two head over in his direction with frowns on their faces. Not doing good so far.
Without a word, one of the two flipped his tray over as he watched his food splatter against the ground. Great. Things were really not going well so far.
Before he could speak, they beat him to the punch. “Did you know we sit here?”
“Huh?” Kota blinked. “I’ve been sitting here for the last week. I didn’t realize –”
“Don’t give me that crap!” one of them snapped, taking a step closer. Kota responded by taking a step back and putting his hands in front of him, showing he wanted no fight out of this. He felt his back hit the fence surrounding the rooftop and froze, unsure of how to react. He honestly didn’t realize he was in their territory, otherwise he wouldn’t have made that mistake. It didn’t seem like he could say anything at this point; they were clearly itching for a fight from the get-go. And Kota wasn’t a fighter.

Two, hearts, two heartsJust look what's been done Two hearts beat as one.
WORDS: 768 || TAGS: @kota [attr="class","nthlftsybdytxt1"]As had been the norm ever since he had arrived at Aurora Academy - given that the area wasn't terribly crowded, as well as if the weather was appropriate to do so - a particular, drakian-influenced young man had constantly made it a habit to travel up to the rooftops in general during his free time. Truth be told, it mattered not where the rooftop was, or when he decided to travel up to one. It could have been during lunch time between school hours, much like the current moment it time; it could have been at night time, after school hours and after the campus had cleared for the most part; or it could have even been in the dead of the night - which, in reality, were the earliest hours of the evening ranging from midnight to an hour or so prior to the crack of dawn - upon the dormitory building as both the inhabitants of the school and the city itself slumbered peacefully before his very eyes. Nearly any day was one fine enough to embark upon a momentary venture to the rooftops, as both the view and the general peacefulness attained from the location were certainly things to be enjoyed and relished.
With earbuds lodged within his ever-so-slightly pointed and scaled ears, the silver-eyed fourth year ventured up the final flight of steps leading to the rooftop itself, initially taking his time and even performing a small, swift movement or two in tune to the song occupying his attention as the door before him neared closer and closer. By the time he was able to reach out and take a firm grasp of the handle, the then-current song had ended, only to be replaced by another in a matter of seconds. Judging by the smirk that quirked itself broadly and prominently upon his lips as he pushed the door open and practically danced into the general vicinity of the roof, it was safe to assume that the new melody was one of either EDM-esque vibes, or just a simply powerful and energetic one, if not both at the same time. Regardless of the specific genre at hand, it was clearly enough to drive him into a sudden degree of hype as he entered the area; something that was possibly an odd sight to see from a taller, well-built dragon - complete with the literal scars of his past - like himself.
Upon taking his first steps along the cement tiles spanning across the fenced, skybound field before him, Corvou Dracul Ryusaki nodded his head in matching beat to the song, smiling with self amusement all the while as he slid the bag that he had over his shoulder off, tossing it against the fence bordering along one of the edges of the rooftop before crouching down to begin opening it. He pulled out what appeared to be a snapback hat, as well as a pair of fingerless gloves, and put them both on before turning around in seeming preparation to begin a freestyle routine to the heard melody, though as he took the first couple of steps, he glanced up, spotting what seemed to be an initially minor sense of movement in the distance. Watching for a split second more, however, he swiftly realized that the situation in the distance was far from minor, and the smile that he wore gradually faded from his lips; the shine of amusement from his eyes departing as well all the while as his eyebrows rose in temporary thought.
Silence filled the air around him as a few thoughts crossed his mind, but after just a little while more of observance, his expression had fully transitioned from slightly gleeful to thoughtful, and from thoughtful to slightly irked. His eyes narrowed slightly after he confirmed what few doubts he had about the trio afar, and he absentmindedly pushed his original plans of lunchtime dance sessions aside as he slowly began to walk over. In a matter of seconds, he slowed to a halt behind both of the other boys as they cornered the younger one, adjusting his gloves before crossing his arms.
"...And what exactly might we be doing here?" he asked at first, raising an eyebrow in question; not of the amused type, though rather of the vaguely threatening and intimidating type. As his eyes narrowed more, so did the pupils of those reptilian eyes of his, and the blue-scaled tail of his swayed surely and patiently behind him as he waited for an answer, or at least any form of attention, as he stood tall above all three of them.

Kota didn’t understand how he always managed to attract these kinds of people. The rough sort. It was the complete opposite of his personality. All he ever did in life was be friendly to others, and half the time he did it to the wrong crowd apparently. He frowned at the thought. What was so wrong with being open to others? He couldn’t change who he was at this point – and he honestly didn’t want to. He thought he was a fun person to hang out with, but apparently certain other people disagreed.
Those certain others were currently cornering him against the fence of the rooftop.
He felt his back against the fence and knew there was nowhere else to go. As if confirming this fact, one of the boys gave him a shove, forcing his back to smack against the fence and rattle the structure a bit. “I’m telling you, I didn’t know,” he repeated, beginning to feel a touch lightheaded. “You can have the seat! I’ll move!”
“That’s right, you’ll move. Your attitude pisses me off,” one of the two snapped. Kota didn’t know how to respond to that. He didn’t think there was anything wrong with the way he handled himself. Granted, he did seek others out mostly for the attention, but he came from a good place. He had a good heart. At least, that’s what his mother always told him, but she was known to be biased from time to time.
Suddenly another voice caught his attention as a fourth member entered the area, saying, “And what exactly might we be doing here?”
Great. Another one of them.
At least, that was what he originally thought. One look at the two other boys, however, and he realized they actually appeared pensive. Nervous. Doubtful. Kota glanced around them to see a new tall boy appearing before them, dark hair swept across pale skin with piercing blue eyes to match. There seemed to be a threat underlying in his tone, and Kota thought to himself that this was the chance to escape. Perhaps they’d ease up on him now that there was a witness getting involved.
Instead, one of the two wound up hooking his arm around Kota’s neck in a forced-friendly façade, smirking at the newcomer as he replied, “No problems here. Just playing around with my buddy. Isn’t that right, pal?”
Kota felt his brow twitch. The two probably didn’t even know his name. Granted, he didn’t know their names either, but the point remained they were attempting to downplay the situation and forcing him to make a difficult choice. He wasn’t sure how to handle the situation from here. He’d never been put in this sort of spot before. He wanted to shrug the boy off his shoulders and get some space between them, maybe leave the rooftop altogether. His hunger had died down from the excitement by this point, his stomach churning with anxiety over the whole scene taking place.
Turning to face the newcomer, Kota felt his lips form a thin line in disagreement. What was he supposed to say? Did they actually expect him to agree that they were just horsing around? One glance at the boy, however, and he was met with an expectant glare. Yep, they expected him to agree. Downplay everything. Kota gulped. “Y-yep” was the only word he managed out, cursing himself for sounding shaky and meek. He didn’t want to be this way. If only he was bigger, he might be able to defend himself properly. But for now, his best course of action seemed to be agreeing with his bullies in hopes that they wouldn’t mess with him further.

Two hearts, two heartsJust look what's been done- Two hearts beat as one.
WORDS: 800 || TAGS: @kota [attr="class","nthlftsybdytxt1"]Silence enveloped the drake himself as he shifted his form ever so slightly, taking care to move the majority of his weight onto the sole of his left foot to attain a more comfortable stance, rather than standing straight as he had been just seconds prior. The lack of further wording could have very well emphasized the underlying sense of growing lack of amusement that he felt in regards to the situation- and especially to how it seemed to specifically be progressing through an attempted try at a false diversion from the truth at hand. It was occurrence that he himself knew all too well; partially due to the fact that he had observed such behavior from the days of the past in his adolesence, and partially because he had experienced it, too, when he had gone through his own, reclusive phase as far as social tendencies and natures went. Silver voids of his closed slowly and surely, and he gradually began to unfold his arms in a seemingly calm manner as he inhaled deeply, and in an equally-speeded manner.
He slipped his left hand into his pocket as the right rose, taking his hat off as he finally breathed out after a small while of keeping the oxygen within his lungs.
"I would just like to point out a crucial factor, then. No 'friend' would be nearly as anxious-looking as he while talking with their companions, nor would said companions look so nervous after being confronted by an outsider if 'playing around' was all that they were doing," he responded flatly and initially, turning around briefly. Eyes of a silver brilliance would vaguely for a second instance - though in narrowed, unamused slits in any case - as he tossed his cap towards the direction of his belongings in the distance,. Due to how he had turned back around to place another glare upon the other two boys, he hadn't quite noticed the fact that it had landed a small distance on the floor away from his bag, though even if he did, it would have been one of his lowest priorities at the moment. Stepping briskly forward for the span of a single pace, he neared the three a tad bit more, focusing his sights upon the two that had interrupted the younger one's time even more intensely than before. "If you are to deny the truth with some pathetic excuse, then you may as well do so with confidence. ...And speaking of confidence, I can safely and surely say that you two are some of the worst actors that I have ever come across in my life with an utmost amount of it. Truthfully. The worst. I have ever. Heard."
While he stressed that last word within a rather serious and threatening tone, his tail swayed once and strongly behind him, and he tilted his head slightly. A faint outline of a deep, navy blue essence - faintly reminiscent of what could be best described as a ghostly, fire-like aura - pulsed once around him before fading gradually, and it was by the time that it was almost gone from sight that he continued on once more. "That aside, though...I have a small request for the two of you." Giving the overturned lunch tray a small ways away a sparing glance, he glared at the two standing with the neighboring first year before turning around and making his way towards the rooftop door. Once in front of it, he turned around and fell back slightly, allowing himself to lean against it while patiently looking over at them yet again. Both of his hands craned up a little bit, and he began fiddling around with his gloves again as a challenging, dangerous smirk surfaced upon his lips; a drastic shift from the one he had worn earlier. "I'd like to make a wager. A handicap match. The two of you against me. If you two win, then I will simply leave and you can continue as you may with your 'friend'. If I win, then you will never bother him again- and if I see you within a three yard' distance or less from him at any given time - accident or not - I will personally throw you into the nearest garbage bin where filth like you belongs."
Lifting his gaze up from his gloves once he finished adjusting their grips on his hands, Ryusaki closed his eyes slowly as he gave another, soft sigh under his breath. When they opened for a third time and cast themselves upon the others, they held a shockingly, yet equally piercing hue of jade, rather than the natural silver that they had been prior.
"...Or, you could leave right now, still never bother that boy again, and the staff would never hear about this encounter. What say you?"

Kota felt the arm around his shoulders tighten, surprised to see the boy trying to play them off as friends growing nervous. Well, he shouldn’t be too surprised. The newcomer was intimidating just by standing there, towering over the three of them. No speech was necessary.
But he did speak. And, to Kota’s further amazement, he spoke on his behalf, seeming to side with him. He felt his shoulders tense slightly at the tall boy’s words; he didn’t want further conflict to be caused. And was that a tail he spotted swaying behind the boy? There was an otherworldly-presence about him, and it wasn’t just his fantasy-like appearance. There was something about him that seemed…off. Different than the others.
When he walked away toward the door, Kota panicked, assuming he was leaving him. It wouldn’t be the first time someone had tried to intervene and then chose against it. He couldn’t really blame them for it, either. If someone was forced with a choice to protect another person over themselves, most people seemed to go the selfish route. No, selfish wasn’t the right word. It was probably the smart route; after all, why risk yourself over a stranger? Kota saw the logic behind it, even if he was reluctant about it.
Rather than leaving, however, the taller boy surprised Kota once again by wagering a fight between himself and the other two. Was he serious? Taking on two people at once was insane. Kota was about to retort, mouth open and ready, when suddenly the arm around his shoulders came undone. Startled, he watched as the two boys beside him scoffed and grumbled under their breath, heading in the direction of the taller boy. Afraid they were about to fight, Kota held his breath.
The two boys continued their walk till they were in front of the tall guy before shoving their way past him, muttering to themselves, “Not worth it.” Kota felt his chest deflate as he exhaled his breath he’d been holding in, grateful things didn’t escalate further. He kept his eyes on the two till they shoved the rooftop door open and disappeared from sight.
Now that the two were gone, he sighed and rubbed a hand on his sore neck, turning to the tall boy and saying an embarrassed “Thanks. You didn’t have to do that.” He was genuinely grateful the boy showed up to his rescue, but it was also humiliating when anyone saw him getting bullied. He wasn’t sure what else to say when suddenly his stomach let out a low growl. Feeling his cheeks flush from the noise, Kota glanced over to his flipped over food and sighed.
He then forced out an awkward laugh. “Guess I’ll have to get a new plate,” Kota huffed, turning to face the tall boy with a heavy smile.

While his internal thoughts were subtly and calmly going over how dramatic and serious his dialogue and proposals had been, Corvou merely remained silent as he leaned against the wall, keeping that jade-eyed glare of his harshly and solidly upon the other two boys. As drastic and seemingly scripted as they may have come out to be, they were his true thoughts at the moment. After all, he absolutedly hated it whenever he was forced to watch someone downplay another. Especially if the numbers were uneven- and not in the victim's favor in the least. As he had hoped, however, the situation gradually began to change for the better as he kept a keen eye upon the others, watchingly patiently and intensely as they began walking his way. Upon seeing them walk in front of them, he narrowed his eyes and rose an eyebrow in the faintest shroud of amusement, taking care to step to the side in order to further free their exiting paths. Patiently glaring after them as they pushed the door open and made their way down the stairs once more, he found his smirk broadening ever so slightly in continued amusement and subtle vibes of victorious natures from the start of their exit until the point in which they fully disappeared from sight. Bowing his head briefly, he closed his eyes and gave a low, amused snicker; something that eventually ended with a sigh as he shook his head, slipping his hands into his pockets. It was then that he took note of the next voice calling out to him. Brought to attention, he tilted his head up to face the one who had addressed him His eyes had reverted back into their normal silver, rather than the intense jade they had maintained just moments prior. "It is fine, I can assure you. I hate to see others condemned, so it was no trouble," he responded with a calm and composed smile at first, his voice matchingly so as it also inherited a touch of formality and even a sense of formality within it, alongside a Japanese accent that was more or less noticeable now that he had the moment to regain his common stature. Sparing a glance towards the overturned tray just a small distance away, he had been about to say something, though quickly decided against it as he caught wind of a faint rumbling sound. His eyes drifted over towards the younger one's stomach; eyebrows rising in interest and amusement as his smile broadened within shared feelings and thoughts. A chuckle left his lips as he tilted his head. "No need for a second trip to the cafeteria, also. By now, everyone else has likely already bought everything out anyways."Rather than letting the neighboring student walk away just yet, he shook his head passively. Instead, he finally began walking towards him, patting his shoulder and gesturing over towards his bag before beginning a small stride towards it once more. "If you want, you can have mine," he offered. Crouching down besides his bag once he reached it, he quickly opened it and took a small, bento-styled container out, glancing over his shoulder and nonchalantly tossing it over to the other after waving it a little bit. "If you do not mind the foreign cuisine, that is. If that is the case, then I do not mind skipping lunch for today."

Kota didn’t understand how he got himself into these situations.
Granted there was a small part of him that felt fulfilled, even in rough times like this. That small part of him longed for human interaction – whether pleasant or hostile. Of course he’d prefer the former, but beggars can’t always be choosers. Those two would probably give him hell to pay later for this incident, too. He sighed at the thought, shaking his head. It didn’t matter what school he attended. There was always the bigger people picking on the smaller and weaker. He, unfortunately, fell into the latter category. He always had. His body simply wasn’t built strong, and neither was his personality.
Another voice spoke out and gathered his attention. Kota straightened his back, eyes scanning for those two to have suddenly returned, when he realized a moment later it was the boy who rescued him speaking. Shoulders visibly relaxing, tension fading away, he listened as the boy explained how the matter had been no trouble for him. Kota nodded his head as a simple reply. He really didn’t feel like stressing about the matter any further. He also didn’t fully believe the boy’s words; after all, who wouldn’t be frustrated or annoyed at the trouble they’d have to go through for someone else, especially when that someone else was a complete stranger.
Kota, deciding to clean up the mess the other two boys had made of his lunch, walked over to the pile of food and flipped his tray over, placing the leftover contents of his original lunch on the tray before walking to a nearby trash and throwing it away. Wiping his hands off on his pants, his ears picked up the same voice from before casually mentioning the food in the cafeteria had likely been bought out. He frowned at those words. So much for eating today.
Just as these words crossed his mind, the boy tossed a container his way, mentioning he could have his lunch instead. Awkwardly catching it, Kota stared at the boy in wonder. “You sure? I mean, what will you eat?” He appeared obviously hesitant, not wanting the boy who helped him to go hungry.

By the time that Kota had taken care to inquire about Corvou's meal plans for the day, he himself was already well into his own stretching regime prior to dancing once more. Having already taken a moment or two to readjust both of his gloves, he had leaned over to swiftly grab his hat and secure it atop his head again before sitting down. In a casual manner, he stretched his legs forward while keeping them ever so slightly parted, alternating between leaning forward and stretching towards either one of his feet after holding his position for a good half minute or so and repeated such a movement for at least six revolutions or so. All the while, he glanced up at the younger boy, shrugging and nodding within an initial response towards his inquiries in his own form of reassurance. "It is more than fine; I promise you that," he responded with an utmost nonchalance, giving him a faint, amused smirk while doing so. Inhaling deeply, he held the breath within his lungs for a short time before expelling it softly and in seeming relief while he continued stretching and warming his muscles up. Eventually, he tucked one of his legs in and began focusing on stretching a single one of his legs rather than both at the same time, sparing the other another glance in the process. "Truth be told, I likely would have gotten too busy practicing all of this instead of eating. I am probably going to meet up with a few friends after school and grab a bite to eat anyways then, so it really is no trouble on my part~."

The older boy confirmed it was alright to eat his lunch and Kota slowly nodded, still feeling unsure. After all, if any deserved to eat it was the other boy. He had saved him from his bullies, that of which Kota had yet to properly thank him for. He should’ve been treating him to lunch, not the other way around. Still, his stomach growled in response and he decided to sit down at a nearby bench, opening up the bento and staring hungrily at the Asian-styled food inside. Some of it looked familiar, and some didn’t, but Kota wasn’t one to be picky about his food so he began chowing down without a second thought.
As he neared the end of his meal, surprised with how quickly he ate everything, the other boy spoke up once more about some sort of practice he was doing, forcing Kota’s head to look up in response. His eyes widened a touch at the sight of the older boy doing stretches on the rooftop, tilting his head in confusion. What was he doing?
Deciding to be nosy, he voiced his thoughts. “What…are you doing, exactly?” he asked, eyes scrunched in thought. Did the boy have gym next and was merely warming up? That would be terrible – having gym right after lunch. Kota cringed at the thought, knowing he wouldn’t be able to keep his stomach down if he had that sort of luck. To be fair, though, he wasn’t the most athletic type. At all. In fact, during gym Kota was normally the type to be lagging behind, huffing and puffing his breaths out in only a way befitting of an amateur athlete.

Upon hearing the question that had been posed to him, the fourth year himself glanced up with a casual sense of curiosity. By the time he had done so, he had already shifted his attention upon the other leg, though seemed to be at the end of its particular stretching routine as he focused on warming the muscles within his arms up, crossing and extending them one over the other and giving them a few pulls here and there in order to allow the tension that had built up within them throughout the school day to gradually and comfortably diminish in the next minute or two. "Mmm...? Well, what does it look like I am doing?" he asked with a chuckle, raising his eyebrow and smirking in a faint degree of amusement all the while. As he spoke this, he shifted his focus upon the arm that had received a lesser amount of attention, before going on to bring both of his hands together, pressing the back of his hands together and pressing them closer - one into the other - as a means of warming them up, as well. "I am stretching, yes. For the particular reason, you will see in a moment, but I simply need to warm my muscles up to prevent a pull or anything else like that..."With those last words, he offered him another lingering smirk before rolling back, only to swiftly secure his hands and palms alike within either side of the ground bordering his head. His legs lifted as he shifted a little bit more to balance upon his back, only to abruptly and smoothly perform a kip up and land upon his feet within a crouch just a mere second or two later. Rolling his neck, he gazed up at the younger boy standing before him, eyeing him before shrugging and standing up. "Just a heads up, though... I will be moving around a lot, so you may want to stay back a little bit. You are free to watch if you want to, though," the man added with a joking wink, reaching over towards his bag. Quickly, he pulled a small, portable speaker out from within it and connected it to his phone via bluetooth connections to begin playing a particular song. The smile that he wore broadened ever so slightly as he nodded in time to the first song tthat played. About half a minute in, he instantly jumped into an active dance routine with an utmost amount of energy, and once that first dance was finished, the song had begun shifting and transitioning into another one. With only a few seconds' worth of a break, Corvou had hopped a couple of times to keep his tempo and charisma up before beginning the second dance for the next corresponding song.

While the other boy proceeded on with his stretches, Kota stood up and brought the bento box over his way, placing it down by his bag. “Here’s your box back, in case you wanted to reuse it,” he murmured, taking his seat by plopping back down on the nearby bench. A breeze suddenly blew across the rooftop, ruffling through his dirty blonde locks of hair. Kota rubbed his head, trying to put everything back in place. The last thing he needed was to go to his next class looking like he just got out of bed. Some boys could easily pull of the sexy bedhead hair. Kota wasn’t one of those people. It honestly made him look like a child.
He huffed at the thought just as the boy answered his question with a ‘what does it look like I’m doing.’ Kota snorted. What a smartass answer. It was honestly something he might say. Watching him continue his stretches with partial interest, his ears perked up as the boy explained he would see the reason to his stretching in a moment. What was he gonna do, run laps across the roof? He chuckled at his own thought.
Just as he looked finished up, the older boy gave him a warning about moving around and Kota raised his brows in confusion. What on earth was he going to do? Dance around on the rooftop?
As this thought cross his mind jokingly, he watched as the boy pulled out a speaker from his bag with wide eyes. Holy shit. This guy was actually going to dance on the rooftop. Was he insane? Granted they were the only ones in this area, but there were still a few students here and there on the roof eating their lunches. The older boy didn’t seem to notice or care, though, as the music began to play and he jumped into a routine.
Kota’s eyes widened as he watched. He was…actually really good. The music was catchy, too. He nodded his head to the beat as he continued to watch the boy’s dance routine, going from one song to the next with an easy transition between the two. He couldn’t help the grin spreading across his face or his hands clapping at the routine, shouting out, “Woo! You’re actually good at this!” It might’ve come across as a rude comment, but Kota meant well by it. He just wasn’t the most delicate with words.
