[nospaces] [attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"]It was all in all a normal, yet long day. As the day reached none more than a couple to a few hours after noon, classes were beginning to draw to a close. Fenryll gave a soft, subtly impatient sigh under his breath as his eyes scanned the latter half of his second page of writing, emerald hues switching between his written text and his textbook - which was opened towards his left - during each small, brief pause in jotting down notes and answers alike. Within a short amount of time, however, he would take a final, vague look up and at the clock that hung above the teacher's desk, staring at it with an unchanging expression as he blindly wrote the final issues of his paper before putting his pencil down. God... This rest of this class is going to by so slowly... he thought with a hint of internal bitterness, absentmindedly tapping the fingers of his free hand against his leg as he slowly put his pencil down. With a single motion, he reached forward, shutting his textbook before sliding it over to his bag, only to replace it with a smaller novel of his. It's been a lot easier since that scout found me back then, but damn me if this whole routine isn't just...boring. The classes are easy, but they're all such a hassle. The people here are more or less ludicrous, too, if not downright obnoxious...[break][break]
Those thoughts of his would continue on and on within the sanctity and silence of his own intellect; thankfully away from the ears and thoughts of his surrounding peers as he skimmed and flipped faintly through the pages of his book, eventually going on to slide a finger between a couple of pages in the hundreds before ultimately opening it wide enough to appropriately read it altogether. Inhaling deeply, he held whatever air he had taken in within his lungs as he leaned back into his seat. His legs crossed and his eyes remained narrowed, dull, and seemingly indifferent in regards to anything, anyone, everything, and everyone around him- though from an outsider's perspective, those qualities could easily have been mistaken as mere self-indulgence as just another soul on the campus doing their best to wait the rest of the class out.[break][break]
The very same breath that he held inside of his chest would have expelled heavily and silently all the same as he reached the last quarter of the page in record time, and he turned the page to start anew once more. Emery raced down the hall, feeling her heart accelerate as she went into panic mode.
She was running late. For the first time. Ever. Emery Elwood didn’t do tardiness, so this being a first was both a shocker and disappointment. She should’ve set a second alarm, since for some odd reason her first and only one didn’t go off. But no. She didn’t. And so here she was, in her current predicament.
Putting one foot after another, she rounded a corner and sped up, glancing down at her watch to see the class had been started over ten minutes ago. No! A normal person would’ve taken the rest of the class off, perhaps called out sick, but that went against her honor code. She knew right from wrong, and she couldn’t stand the fact of missing out on more learning. She was a little bookworm, and because of that she was going to get in trouble for being late. Her heart skipped a beat at the thought.
Finally spotting her classroom in sight, Emery slowed her speed and made her footsteps quieter as to not disturb the nearby rooms – it wasn’t their fault she was late, after all. Coming to a standstill in front of the classroom door, she inhaled a deep breath and calmed her breathing down.
This was it.
Maybe she could sneak in the back and not be noticed.
As soon as she opened the door, however, she realized that wasn’t a possibility. Apparently the classroom had been at a deathly silence, meaning they must’ve heard her sprinting down the halls before arriving here. Great. Most students’ eyes fell on her, a few snickering amongst themselves. She felt her cheeks flare up in embarrassment. This was the last thing she needed after the ‘coffee girl’ incident.
With a pointed look from the teacher and a command to take her seat, Emery hung her head in shame and made her way through the rows of students, eventually taking an empty seat beside another redhead – although granted, his hair seemed more orange than red. Still, she found some commonality in their unnatural hair colors and chose to sit beside him, plopping down in her seat and burying her head in her hands.
She was humiliated.

For the most part, everything seemed to be more or less decent within the boy's eyes and general perspective. In contrast to how things normally were with minor, quiter conversations occurring like the norm was during individual working times, the class actually seemed rather silent for the most part. Sure, there was the occasional whisper or two from the other side of the room, rising in volume as whomever had been conversing gradually became more and more invested in their topics at hand, but that small surge had been seemingly short-lived as the room filled with its continued sense of silence time and time again. The revelation was one that the green-eyed teen very much appreciated- and to have him appreciate something was something that was rare and perhaps even foreign to his own mind.
Of course, though, all good things end eventually. The quietness was no exception.
Inhaling deeply at the sound of distant footsteps nearing the very classroom he was sitting within, Fenryll closed his eyes slowly, giving a faint murmur under his breath as his other classmates were meanwhile turning their heads to look at the door. The breath he took was kept safely within his lungs; held within them and inducing an extensive expansion of his chest as he merely listened to his surroundings. It was only released as he heard the teacher give an order for some supposed newcomer to take a seat, which was accompanied by the various snickers of those other classmates. At the same, general time, he finally opened his eyes, sparing a split-second look to take a faint glance at whoever had just entered.
He expected to look at a face, though the only thing he found an image of was a girl - right next to him, much to his internal, hidden discontent - with her face down and hidden from view from within the shade and sanctuary of her arms. Raising an eyebrow, the canid-influenced boy merely stared at her with an indifferent expression before opening his book enough to scan the text again for a second time, placing his attention upon it for the most part. The main difference from earlier, however, would be the faintest smirk that tugged upon his lips in both amusement and unbeknownst spite towards the newcomer.
Should she have looked up at the right time, she may have caught him glancing down at her from the corner of his eye with a shred of continuous amusement before giving the novel within his grasp his attention once more.

Thankfully for Emery, as she peeked a look out from under her arms it appeared most of the class had gone back to reading from their textbooks. Good. She couldn’t stand being the center of attention. Not even when she was younger did she enjoy the spotlight on herself; there was a time in grade school she was forced to participate in a play and wound up crying during all her parts, eventually being excused from the production altogether. She was embarrassed over the situation looking back on it, but it was a means to an end.
Glancing over toward the redhead beside herself, Emery was startled to spot a smirk across his features. Was that because of her? Horrified, she took a moment to glance around the rest of the room to see if anyone else was grinning, thankful that they weren’t. So with her luck, she was left beside the one person still laughing at her internally. She shouldn’t have been surprised, come to think of it.
She couldn’t blame him too much, either. Emery knew it was her own fault for being late. She had never been tardy before in her entire life, so this being a first was soul-crushing for her. If only she had set that second alarm! She berated herself for being so careless. She knew she wouldn’t make the same mistake twice from that point on.
Nevertheless, class was moving on with the program and she should, too. Taking a deep breath, she exhaled slowly and felt her heartrate gradually calm down with her breathing. Shrugging her bag off her shoulders, she placed it in her lap before undoing the zipper, moving a few folders around to realize on top of being late, she also forgot her textbook. Just her luck.
Letting out a soft sigh of annoyance, Emery carefully placed her bag on the ground before turning in her chair to face the boy beside her. She had no other choice but to ask for assistance. “Excuse me?” she whispered, keeping her voice low to avoid bothering any of the other students. “I must’ve left my book back in my dorm. Do you mind if we share?” She hoped he was the easygoing type and would understand her mistake – Emery didn’t feel like being ridiculed further by this point.

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"]Despite the fact that he was certainly amused by the situation for a short time, the teen’s smirk had gradually faded away after a small while, reverting back to its prior, unreadable expression that spanned the entirety of his face from the very start as he occasionally flipped through the pages of his novel. After a little while, however, he decided to take a brief pause from reading. Setting the book down on his desk - opened, and face down in order to save his page - he turned slightly once more, leaning over and reaching into the smaller front pocket of his bag after unzipping in in a single, fluid motion. Fingertips brushed faintly against a screen’s glass before closing in around it, as well as the thin, seemingly metallic material bordering it as he reeled his music player out. Taking a brief glance over at the teacher and ensuring that their attention was nowhere except upon graded papers, Fenryll slid the player into his lap, carefully and silently undoing the earbuds that he wrapped around it before taking the jack end and slipping it beneath the back of his shirt’s collar. He wired it down his shirt and pulled it from the bottom, taking one of the earbuds and placing it into his ear before connecting it to his mp3 player and selecting a song. Before long, sounds of orchestral instruments caught his senses as a cover of a particular song filled his ears, enveloping them within a string-composed symphony that he found personally pleasing. Once the bud was settled in, he tucked the remaining beneath the shoulder of his shirt before reaching out to grab his book.[break][break] ”Excuse me?”[break][break] Cailean froze silently for a second or two, taking a deep, yet silent and unnoticeable breath and cursing to himself internally within a similar manner. He glanced at her, listening to her following words and request with an externally thoughtful gaze, as well as an internally bothered demeanor. Of course… Because it’s not enough that you were late, but you also have to be ill-prepared… he thought with a hint of bitterness.[break][break] That bitterness wouldn’t be seen in the slightest, however.[break][break] In fact, he feigned whatever thoughts he had been thinking with a rather casual and passive smile, narrowing his eyes in amusement. ”Sure. I’m already done anyways, so you don’t even have to worry about sharing the pages,” he responded calmly. The hand that had stretched out towards the book for a second time found a new course as he leaned over in the direction of his bag for another time, sliding in and swiftly grasping the edge of the very textbook he used earlier. Glancing over his shoulder he gave her a sparing look and a continued smirk as he set it on her desk, sliding it closer towards her and away from the edge to prevent it from falling. ”Just give it back when you’re done and all.”[break][break] With those words, he merely looked back towards his own, paperback book, taking it within his hands and spreading the pages in order to enable an ability to read through it yet again.[break][break] And while you’re at it, shut up and don’t bother me until you’re done.[attr="class","iconie"] [attr="class","tagsie"]@emery ::: get that lowkey salt [newclass=.biggie]-webkit-transitionduration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover]margin-left:-300px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie]opacity:0;margin-top:-425px;margin-bottom:150px;width:300px;height:400px;padding:10px;background-color:#2b2b2b;border:solid 1px #ff9b62;color:#ffffff;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;margin-left:0px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;font:11px calibri;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .textie]opacity:1;margin-left:610px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar]width:10px;background:#fff;[/newclass] [newclass=.textie::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#b7b7b7;border:2px solid #fff;[/newclass] [newclass=.iconie]opacity:0;margin-top:-240px;margin-left:-220px;margin-bottom:50px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .iconie]opacity:1;[/newclass] [newclass=.tagsie]opacity:0;font:11px calibri;color:#b7b7b7;margin-top:-75px;margin-left:-75px;margin-bottom:40px;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.biggie:hover .tagsie]opacity:1;-webkit-transition-duration:.5s;-moz-transition-duration:.5s;transition-duration:.5s;[/newclass]

After running through the various hallways to get to the classroom, Emery had been short of breath and had to focus on controlling her breathing to not embarrass herself further – the last thing she needed to be doing was panting heavily among her silent peers, hearing the sound of her own voice above the ticking of the clock. The mere thought caused her to wince, hearing the pounding of her own heartbeat through her head as she did so. It was beginning to give her a slight headache, and so she took a few more silent deep breaths to calm herself down.
The action is over, she tsked to herself. Time to move on.
The silence of the classroom was rather soothing to her, and helped her heartrate ease to a calmer state. This was her element. The only thing that would make this better was if she were in the library, possibly with Edmund, with a handful of books by her side. Now that would be nice. Emery was a bookworm at heart, and enjoyed the course of learning new things. She could appreciate a challenge. All she did when she was younger was sit and read, locked away from the rest of the world in her cramped closet.
The sound of another voice broke her thoughts, and she remembered where she was and what she had asked once more. The boy beside her she had previously spoken to agreed to let her borrow his book, explaining how he was done with it already. Her eyes watched as he moved the book across the table so it was laid out before her, and she gave an appreciative smile his way as thanks. Turning to face the book, however, she was suddenly frozen with realization.
She didn’t know what they were going over, exactly.
Feeling heat rise to her cheeks in embarrassment, realizing she had to, once again, ask the boy for help, she swiveled in her chair to face him. “Excuse me?” she started again, the red on her cheeks more prominent and matching the color of her hair. “I’m sorry to bother you again, but would you mind telling me what we’re going over in the book? I missed the beginning of class, so I’m not sure.” Way to go, Emery. Now this guy will think you’re completely incompetent. She cursed herself internally, embarrassed over the entire situation.

Not too long after he had read the first two worda since his reading break did he hear the girl's second interjection, mentally cursing all the while. While not prominent enough to be seen unless with keen eyes, he clenched his teeth faintly beneath the shade of closed lips, and a finger that wrapped itself around his book and was further from the other's sight even twitched and tapped against the novel's spine in minot annoyance and impatience before quickly stopping. Casually betraying all of his initial thoughts once more, he feigned theae emotions through a small gaze her way, alongside another - albeit smaller - smile, shrugging.
"It's really just busy work, to be honest," he murmured, leaning over and a little bit closer in order to flip the book open. Keeping his eyes on the page numbers, he flipped through silently until he reached the first of the chapter that they were working on. "He said to read the chapter and answer the questions at the end of each section, but you could just skim through for the answers instead," the boy added, tapping his finger on the first section's title before flipping a few more pages to do the same to the questions soon after.
Rather than leaning back towards his own table, he merely placed his elbow on the corner of hers, lazily putting the angle of his jaw within its palm to gaze over at her with a seemingly curious and nonchalant look, despite the brewing impatience that may or may not have begun to be noticeable with enough focus.
"Any other questions?"

Emery waited patiently for his response, taking her time to survey the classroom. It seemed that the teacher hadn’t bothered looking up from his own paperwork at the front of the class, most-likely grading papers. Part of her was curious if he had graded hers yet. She was proud of the work she accomplished and was sure that she would continue to get good grades because of that. It was something her mother had nailed down early on in her childhood: “If you don’t work for it, you won’t make it anywhere.” She had taken those words to heart, and was proudly a straight A student because of it.
Although despite this, she would now have to say she didn’t have the perfect attendance. One wrong alarm, and she now had a tardy that tarnished her records. Emery felt her face flush at the fact, already hearing her mother yelling at her to get in the closet as punishment in her mind. Maybe after class, she would mourn her perfect attendance by wallowing around in her dorm.
When the boy beside her began talking, Emery snapped herself back into focus. Her garnet eyes watched carefully as he traced the pages with his finger while explaining the work she had to accomplish, flipping through pages casually and pointing her in the right direction. She nodded her head in understanding. It was simple enough. This work would take her no time at all.
“Any other questions?” she heard him ask after that, and she tilted her head as she pondered that. Were there any other questions she should ask? The boy had been exceedingly helpful without seeming to care that she had bothered him. Twice. That, alone, stood out in Emery’s mind, and she was extremely grateful for that – something he would never understand over. It wasn’t often that people didn’t see her as a burden, and since she had missed his signs of annoyance she assumed she wasn’t being a pain to him.
Ultimately making up her mind, Emery shook her head in response. “I don’t think so. Thanks for your help. I’m sorry I asked so many questions.” Holding out her hand between the two, she decided to add in, “I’m Emery, by the way. It’s nice to meet you.”

No more questions. Thank Christ.Content with the answer that he was given with at the time at first, Fenryll merely nodded in silence and false yet truthful-seeming understanding, Those words were enough of a confirmation and cue that he needed to begin straightening his posture once more, and he had quickly lifted his chin and jaw from the palm of his hand- and in such a manner that may have made it seem like he was glad to have been dismissed like he thought he was. In the process, he even turned to glance over his shoulder, and his left hand was already well on its way towards his novel for the third - or was it the fourth? - time during that particular experience, barely grazing the bottom edge of its spine before he heard the next words that the neighboring, crimson-haired girl had to offer him. Taking a swift, silent breath and releasing it in a huff as his head remained turned and hidden from her line of sight, Fenryll merely looked back at her once more. Verdant voids of his remained locked upon the hand outstretched towards him before slowly and eventually drifting towards its own host in an initially indifferent manner. Just answer her... If you humor her long enough, she'll hopefully leave you alone.Taking that thought into reluctant and even bitter consideration internally, the lycan simply allowed the faintest smile to etch upon his lips as he nodded ever so slightly. "...Fenris," he stated simply, slowly taking her hand within a more or less light and seemingly unwilling grasp and shaking it quickly. "Fenris Cailean Anderson."

“Fenris,” he answered for her introduction. Emery smiled as he shook her hand, taking note of how light and loose his grip was. He seemed almost noncommittal, and she realized at that moment she must’ve been taking up too much of his time.
“Fenris,” she echoed. “That’s a unique name. It suits you.” Not that she really knew him, but she could tell from his appearance alone that he was a type of character. Besides, everyone deserved to be called unique. There was never another person who looked and acted completely like another, after all.
With that, Emery chose to get started on her work. It was simple, really, and as the clock ticked she reached in her bag once more to pull out her notebook, placing it down on the table alongside a pencil. The rest of her time flew by as the only movements she made were through her writing utensil, occasionally flipping a page over to look at new material in the book. This was her true element – well, besides the element of fire, that is. She felt herself chuckle at her own joke, feeling she really needed to work on her cheesy humor.
Soon enough, she found herself writing down the answer to the last remaining question of the section, placing her pencil down once she was done. Now all that was left was to wait out the remainder of the class which was – she glanced up at the clock on the wall to check – another thirty minutes. She tsked herself, realizing she should’ve taken her time on the questions. No need to feel rushed. But the damage was done, and now she found herself sitting at her table wondering what to do with the remainder of her time. She could try to get ahead and work on the next section, but her hand was already cramping up from writing too quickly; she needed a break.
Glancing over at the boy beside her with the music buds and other book, she wondered if she should bother him again to entertain herself. He seemed preoccupied, and she didn’t want to be a bother to him. Nevertheless, her boredom was reaching a peak. She decided she would risk it and see if she could start a conversation to kill the time – she could always apologize if she got on his nerves.
Giving his shoulder a small poke to let him know she was speaking, Emery decided to ask, “What are you listening to?”

"...Uh-huh."That was the simple and initial response in reply to the response that Emery had given to his introduction, though by then, he had already been long past drawing his hand back to his own being, as well as placing his wholehearted focus upon his novel once more. To him, the swiftness of his own, personal topic and attention shift was enough of a hint tossed into the air to give way to the fact that talk was more or less cheap to him, and was also something that he would rather not waste his time with if the choice was within his own control. Much to his repeated yet admittedly, once again temporary gladness within, he could have very well smiled in pure relief once silence filled the air around them once more as the girl besides him decided to get to work- though, of course, it was something that he took care to keep hidden for the time being. The time passed on, and through that time, he had taken care to slip the remaining earbud within his free ear once again as their prior conversation slipped further and further into the past, allowing himself to become pleasantly enveloped within the music submerging his senses as it continued on, though found himself swiftly distracted for another time. Resisting the urge to heave a heavy sigh, he simply kept his gaze upon his book for a few moments, though didn't quite look over at the neighboring student that time around as she tapped his shoulder. Despite that, however, neither of them would have had to worry about him hearing what she had to say. By virtue of being a sort of animal shifter, he also housed the ability to use the senses of select animals at will. Taste. Sight. Hearing. It was both a gift and a curse, truly. More of the latter than the former at that particular moment in time in his opinion, though that was besides the point. Verdant voids of his continuously scanned the texts located within his book as he slowly hooked one of his hands around, plucking the very earbud he had replaced into his ear out and holding it out to her with a seeming half heart and disinterest. "Listen for yourself," he spoke simply; flatly. It was a gradual, yet somewhat more obvious shift from his earlier tone by then.

Emery listened to the small ticking of the clock on the far wall of the classroom, and wondered to herself where she planned to go in life. She had no particular skill in a certain area, but at least she wasn’t hopeless. It wasn’t like she was failing her classes – on the contrary, she was excelling in them, as usual. Her problem was she didn’t have a focus in life. Nothing drove her, she merely…existed. Putting it that way made her life sound more depressing than it actually was, and she found herself frowning at the thought. So much for remaining positive.
“Listen for yourself.”
The boy’s words cut her train of thought, and she blinked, glancing over to see Fenris holding out an earbud between the two. Nodding her head, Emery took hold of the small earpiece and placed it in her ear carefully, being sure not to put it in too deep.
Her sense of hearing was instantly taken over by the sound of instruments, and her eyes widened a touch as she realized he was listening to just that – only instruments. No sound of a human’s vocals broke out into song, and Emery had never listened to just instrumental music before. It was soothing. She could feel the beat of her heart slowing down with the free tune of music. She was instantly relaxed.
Her foot tapped to the beat, and she glanced over his way and nodded her head once more. “It’s catchy,” she muttered, surprised at her own admission. Thinking to herself, she decided to go ahead and ask, “Do you play at all?” It wasn’t that off of an assumption. She’d met plenty of people who lived in music, and almost all of them walked around with headphones. Of course this guy could just be someone laidback who listens when he has nothing better to do, but she couldn’t tell the difference at this point. She didn’t know him well enough.

Still keeping his focus upon the novel that he held open before his very eyes, Fenryll merely continued reading the book within his grasp, all while keeping his grasp on his second earbud as he held it out to the girl with a lack of interest. Shifting the hand that held the lower spine of the book faintly, he adjusted his hold and turned the page with his thumb before appropriately and solidly securing the grip yet again; something that he had learned to do over the years as an avid reader who took a shine to absentminded multitasking. Often times, he found himself somehow switching between peering through a novel and working on worksheet-based homework assignments during free time in class and his own leisure alike. It was something that many couldn't seem to fathom the thought of, and also something that they often managed to fail at if they tried it for themselves. Truth be told, not even he knew or could figure out how he could split his mind between two things at a time and still be as productive as he was, but he preferred not to question it. If he did, he may screw himself over and lose his ability to do so after overthinking the matter. That aside, he still kept reading, though spared the slightest glance over at Emery as he felt her finally take the earbud from his fingertips. He eyed her for several moments before glancing away from her once more in a sense of disinterest that was more than clear by then, reeling his hand back and rejoining it with the remaining as it held his book. Silence would have been her initial response to the earbud's acceptance as the music continued flowing through both of them, and the third year merely progressed on with his textual journey as he submerged himself deeper within its plotline. After a small amount of time, however, his attention would have been split ever so slightly again as he heard the girl's voice yet again. A subtle inhale progressed through his lips before he huffed it back out within a sigh, and he just turned to the next page while giving her inquiries and remarks little thought. "Cello. Violin. Piano." Those were his initial choices of reply; single-worded responses as he gave the majority of his attention to the story spread before him once again. His eyes narrowed and his brows furrowed absentmindedly. "Most common orchestral and symphony instruments. I despise most others."

“Cello. Violin. Piano.”
He answered her questions with a monotone, giving her the simplest of answers he possibly could have. That should’ve been her warning. Instead, Emery’s garnet eyes widened a touch at his answer, all the more intrigued by him. Music was a language, after all, and one she, herself, didn’t quite understand. At all. The fact that Fenris knew not one, but multiple instruments amazed her. “That’s incredible,” she breathed, eyes wide with interest. He might not have sounded impressed, but she certainly was.
It took her back to what she had thought of earlier, about not possessing a drive for something. He was the perfect example of someone with a talent to succeed in life. “Do you plan on pursuing music as a career?” she asked. She knew she was getting nosy at this point, but couldn’t help herself. Music was one of those mystical talents that evaded her. Her mother had insisted on her trying when she was younger, but every instrument that landed in her hands ultimately was a waste of time. She was tone deaf, and couldn’t manage to carry a single tune.
One particular memory stuck out in her mind: a hot summer afternoon, with her sitting at a piano in her school. She’d stared at the music sheet and tried learning, herself, what it all meant. She had no teacher, and the Internet was a foreign concept to her at the time. Raising a hand, she’d tapped one key on the piano and listened intently, trying to burn its tune in her mind. Then another. And another. Eventually she was playing the whole thing, pressing various different keys she thought sounded well together. Much to her disappointment, a random student appeared in the music hall at that time and yelled at her to “Stop playing that damn horror show!” She was shocked. Apparently the whole thing had sounded terrible to another. And so she left, never to touch another instrument again.
Shaking her head at the memory, she let out a small huff of frustration. Now wasn’t the time to get sentimental. Turning her attention back to the boy next to her, she waited patiently for his reply, missing the subtle signals of his that would’ve tipped her off to his annoyance.

"Tch...if you think having patience and dedication is an impressive thing, then I suppose so..." he muttered with a faint trace of bitterness, not quite caring about how his tone came off to sound like by that particular point in time. As the music continued playing between the two of them, he merely continued flipping the pages of his book as needed and as was necessary. A wry smirk tugged upon the edges of his lips as an equally wry, yet barely audible chuckle slipped out of his lips. "Then again...those two qualities are both things that people nowadays rarely have- and even when it's apparent, it's only for the most ludicrous and idiotic of reasons... So I suppose that it would be impressive to find someone with the drive to do something productive with their lives for once..."Another page flipped, and the smile that he wore would have diminished as quickly as it had arrived- and with it, all senses of amusement from his very being had disappeared, as well. In great contrast from his earlier demeanor of politeness and seeming consideration, it would have been more than obvious that his disinterest and perhaps even both contempt and annoyance alike towards not specifically her, but towards practically anything and everything in general. Beneath his desk, his legs crossed within what would have been an easygoing and casual fashion if it hadn't been for the obvious degree of distaste that had consumed his speech by that point, lingering within it to exhibit a gradually increasing sense of his true view of society and the like in general. He fell silent throughout that time, though the subtle annoyance that had been well located within his voice had been easily and swiftly transferred into his gaze as narrowed, piercing voids of emerald locked upon Emery when she addressed him with another question. His expression remained unchanging for an uncomfortable amount of time - even if it had been no more than a few seconds in reality - before his lip finally quirked to one side. He shook his head, settling his glare upon the text lined before his gaze as he turned his attention back towards his novel for what felt to be a countless time during that particular experience. "...No, to answer your question, though," he went on, his tone flat and rather unwelcoming and blunt. "It's nothing more than a simple hobby. It's an interest, and as of now, I can't say that I have any plans to pursue a musical career in the future."
